Pretty sure the turret disappeared immediately upon switch. Why would someone launch a turret just to be destroyed immediately after? Maybe increased the granade explosion? But it's possible that the enemy just destroyed it. Nope it disappears. They were just showing off the favorite swapping. Which means this should also cancel abilities like annihilation, which is good for balance.

Why would someone launch a turret just to be destroyed immediately after? Maybe increased the granade explosion? But it's possible that the enemy just destroyed it. Just for the sake of demonstrating the existence and function of the power. If it's just a random trailer and turrets weren't already shown in the first gameplay, it could be that. But the only purpose here is to familiarize the player with the favorite system. It's just dumb how the guy there is explaining how being infiltrator isn't enough, so he deploys a turret and then breaks it.

I'm not quite clear on the "favorites" and classes (as in the OG class sense - Adept, Infiltrator, etc.). If I make a "favorite" profile, can I pick active abilities from several classes for the same profile, or am I restricted to abilities from one class per one favorite profile?

If anyone has played Elementalist in guild wars 2, the Profile design in MEA reminds me exactly of attunement swapping on the ele.
There you have 4 elements (earth, air, fire, water) each granting access to a different set of active skills (based on your weapon choice). The whole gaameplay method of most ele builds revolves around playing a few skills from one element, swapping to the next, playing a few skills there, swapping to the next and so on - kind of piano playing the build or finger gymnastics.
The only differences are the skills are predefined based on weapon loadout, and attunement swapping has a cooldown timer.
MEA profiles look like they can be instantly toggles with no cooldown - so on a keyboard you should be able to swap profile at the press of a button. Assuming the number s 1-4 can be mapped for each Profile, it could play in a way that you use a couple of skills from one profile, swap to another and use skills from there, swap to another (or back to the first) and so on...
If this is how it can work then there should be a huge amount of variety and customisation possible with builds in MEA, far more than previous games or even most rpgs I can think of.
This of course assumes you can hotkey profile swapping at least on the PC so you don't have to pause and enter a menu.

How many powers do you guys think it is realistic to max out?
Also I wonder if we can block Fiend attacks with Backlash.

All, if you play long enough. Isn't that only with a newgame+ thought? Probably but we really do not know if its theoretically possible to get all abilities within the time frame of one playthrough if you play the game long enough. But that would likely only be due to a lot of grinding and a super completionist PT.

All, if you play long enough. Isn't that only with a newgame+ thought? Nope! Someone who played the game asked the devs if you could do it on a single playthrough and they said you could.

What I'm reminded of by the favourites system is actually Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, where the battle system revolved around changing between three Schemata with four abilities each. Your Schematas would have different stats based on the weapon, shield, garb, and accessories you equip to each Schema. You could have one Schema for debuffing, another for tanking, and another for massive damage to staggered enemies. (Unfortunately, a "stand still and take literally no damage from one type of attack" profile is probably out of the question.)
I kinda wish we could name our favourites. 'Cause then I could have Commando (a Soldier profile for heavy firepower and burst damage), Ravager (an Engineer profile for eradicating enemy protections), Saboteur (an Infiltrator profile with abilities to disable and weaken enemies), and Sentinel (a...well, y'know...profile geared with defensive abilities for tanking enemy attacks) favourites.
...remember when Serah and Noel got that N7 Armor DLC? Yeah, I'm still waiting on Final Fantasy to send something nice to the Mass Effect universe. *pouts*

All, if you play long enough. Isn't that only with a newgame+ thought? In one playthrough it should be difficult, although based on what Ian said, I think you can go rather high. I think at least 20 skills should be fully maxed out at the end of one run. On the topic, I'll post the squad abilities we know: Cora: Charge, Nova, Shield Boost, Asari Commando, Defensive training. Drack: Blood Rage, Incinerate, Flak Cannon, Krogan warrior, grizzled veteran. Liam: Havok Strike, Overload, Frag Grenade. Vetra: Power Armour. Peebee: Throw/Pull (don't recall which one), Shockwave, Invasion. Blood rage looks insane, by the stats mentioned.

Was kinda hoping there would be something like that for all the companions. Looks like that could be the case. Cora has Asari Commando Drak has Blood Rage Liam has Havok Strike Vetra has Power Armor Peebee? Jaal? (Interested with this one because "resistance fighter." Think he could have an ability to combat the Kett?)

I had a quick thought after looking at the latest trailer featuring profile switching.
It's about burst damage. Since cooldowns are forced with every profile switch, you can't just fire off 3 powers, switch, fire off 3 more. Well, you can't do this as long as you're switching to cooldown-based abilities.
However, you can as long as you switch to a consumable-based ability, like grenades.
In practice, this means you can do something like go from Profile A: Invasion, Incinerate, Lance to Profile B: Omni Grenades, Flak Cannon, Trip Mines and fire off everything at once, no waiting in between.
Considering Omni Grenades and Trip Mines seem to deal a lot of damage, it might even be reasonable to put a single point into those abilities just to pull this off. In case you want something to die very fast (e.g., Fiends).

I think he means that cryo, biotic, flame and debuff effects that have a limited duration would linger after switching profiles, but sustained powers like turret and annihilation would automatically end.

That way you could initiate a primer, change to your quick-cooldown detonators and detonate the effect before it timed out.

That way you could initiate a primer, change to your quick-cooldown detonators and detonate the effect before it timed out. Was thinking of the squaddies. You would prime like 3 enemies, then your squaddies detonate the first two enemies with one(?) detonate ability each, then they have their abilities on a cool down, and you have a detonator ability to use yourself from another profile for the third detonate. Add two more detonators in that favorites so you can detonate your squaddies pimes. So, basically just switch between a quick cool down favorites for primes and have like 2 other favorites for detonation (powerful ones with long cooldowns), and a third favorite for stuff like Trip Mine, Omni Grenade, and Flak Cannon.
