Hmm, I understand this concern. I too very frequently made use of the tactical pause in previous ME's. However, I would like to make the point that no tactical pause adds suspense. And finally, for ME:A. To all the criticisers before the game is actually released. Would a combat pause be nice and help you play? YEs, definetely, Even I'd welcome it. Is it necessary? Hell no. Just because you can't pause a game doesn't mean you can't be strategic. Now, it's absolutely fantastic that the intial trilogy had the pause system. I used it myself a lot too. But this is a new game by a new team. And they have the right to form their vision in any way they please. It has a pause function, just it is limited to weapon / ammo wheel. BTW i'm wondering if the weapon wheel is the only option to pause the game to bring up the wheel then companions will use 1 type of weapons only. Do we know anything about how to command squad members to take cover or use powers?

Hopefully soon most likely during the 15 min gameplay vid we've supposedly been promised they may go into more detail. Hopefully they've compensated for the lack of pause to aim by having auto targeting and by that I mean have the power aimed at the enemy you last had in your scope or something when you press the power's button or something. It may well depend on the power selected though. I don't know for certain whether they have done this but it is one way they could compensate for it.

Some kind of target lock was present in previous Mass Effect games too, because i remember using push and incinerate at enemies behind cover while i was aiming higher and it curved beautifully like the bullets in Wanted Without pausing the game, so probably that won't be an issue. I hope we again get the ability to command squadmates.

Final Fantasy unless I'm mistaken auto tagets with it's powers based on the enemy you have selected if I'm not mistaken based on my experience with FF13 ME dosen't necessarily do this or at least it hasn't and that's where the tactical pause came in handy as because of my disability I can only move or shoot I cannot move and shoot as I only have 1 hand on the controls. So I've always used the tactical pause to get around that. Besides I'd rather wait and see what Bioware has to say first about the new game before I make any decisions on that. Seeing as they have said they will cover this at some point about how the powers work I'd rather hear it first as I might be able to find a work around that works for me based off of that. I empathise with your disability, but - to speak frankly - it's not bioware's obligation nor company goal to create games for people who can not properly input all button combinations. When you start a project such as this, you have to take certain things - like the end user being able to work a xbox or PS4 or whatever controller - for granted. Otherwise,t here's no end to your initial product requirements. Now, it's absolutely fantastic that the intial trilogy had the pause system. I used it myself a lot too. But this is a new game by a new team. And they have the right to form their vision in any way they please. The end user can only make their voice known by one thing, and that is the purchase. If you boycot the choice for yourself by pre-ordering it, you don't have the right to complain afterwards that the final product did not meet all your criteria. And you definetely don't have the right to do it in advance. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it's just reality. After every game I play, I also used to have ideas about "how they could have done this better" or "that would have been a lot smarter". But honestly, after having voiced an opinion about so many games and seeing little to no return on it, it just gets tiring. And you realise the futility. Myself, on principle I no longer pre-order. And once I decided to no longer do that, I just learned to accept the games for what they are, and enjoy them how they were created. I no loner pine for 'how awesome my version would have been'. In any case. Would it be nice if they held everyone's opinion in mind? Sure. Is it in any way their obligation to their customers? Heck no. No one (at least, not us few) is saying that Bioware has any obligation to do anything. It's just that when you make a large library of games and develope a fan base by utilising certain features, those fans inevitably start to expect/associate those features with your games. The removal of a tactical pause is a pretty huge step in the context of Bioware games and worthy of discussion and debate. We have a right to be skeptical about it, just as they have every right to do it. Our concerns may ultimately be ignored but there are a few devs that drop into this forum, so at least we know that they're probably aware of some points we're raising. I loved having the power wheel. With any luck I'll enjoy the combat to the point of not missing it. Until then, I'll remain ever so slightly disappointed with its removal. And no, I don't consider the new weapon wheel to be an equivalent form of pause. It wasn't transparent and it didn't look as though you could move the screen around while it was up.

I agree and concur. Here's to hoping that the new pause wheel will still allow aiming, then But if they want SP and MP to be as much alike as possible (and due to the whole 'strike missions' ordeal, I believe they would), my healthy dose of criticism breathes a quivering 'no' into my ear. My main hope (as, at it's core, this is still a topic about powers) is still that we can switch profiles during combat. Would be neat if the wheel was used for that! (Very unlikely, though). But if not that, then maybe the D-pad. Totally different game, but kind of like in Devil May Cry 4, where Dante's different classes (trickster, swordmaster, ...) are acessed through a push of a d-pad direction.

Your only recourse is to camp out on this thread until tomorrow morning when the new trailer releases and then edit that link into your original post, change the thread title, and then bump the thread before anyone else can post the trailer.

That ability was fun to use I suspect that the 'beam' bit is where you hold it down, so you should still be able to do short bursts. They're probably giving us the beam as a replacement for both cryo blast and snap freeze. An upgrade that broadened the blast radius would be cool tho.

Bioware has always made really *cool* cryo abilities in their games. I get a serious kick out freezing enemies

Would be nice to see cryo blast (or beam, or whatever) get a noticeable boost in its power comparable to what happened in ME3MP. It was a bit too easy to just ignore this power in the last two games. Probably needs a stronger effect on chilled/non-frozen targets.

So we have 20 powers confirmed, that is divided into the 3 combat specializations that is 6 per specialization. 3 of which we can use...I suppose that is not bad of course the problem is we are encouraged to 'mix and match' between the groups. Yep, although there are no doubt more powers we haven't seen yet (e.g. overload, warp, throw, drone). If we can only have 3 active powers (and assuming we don't respec during a playthrough) then even with just these 20 you would need 7 playthroughs to try everything. I like having access to different classes of powers but I'm still annoyed about the idea of only 3 powers, if true. I loved sentinel in the trilogy but I would need at least 4 powers to replicate that play style here, assuming they exist - tech shield, overload, warp and throw. We'll just have to wait and see what further info we get. Sentinel was my favorite as well and like you, I would need 4 to replicate my play style which was Tech Armor, Warp, Overload, and Cryo Blast. I carried a shotgun and basically froze everything possible and pumped a shotgun blast in it to a satisfying effect. I can live without Tech Armor and switch to a sniper weapon like the Viper, Indra, Valiant, or Raptor if necessary if I can't tank my way into the fray with my armor. If possible, I want to switch Warp and Overload with Reave and Energy Drain and I pray to God that the N7 Paladin's Omni-Shield is a melee weapon.

Thanks for sharing that, although his wording 'access more than 3 abilities while in the field' could just mean that we can switch powers/profiles outside of combat. Still pinning my hopes on dpad down, lol.
