I'm actually still a little doubtful that the book contract with Jemisin is for real. I don't follow her regularly, but I recently looked up her blog. She's recently mentioned playing Mass Effect Multiplayer in her blog, but she's not mentioned anything about writing a Mass Effect book. Strange... particularly if the book was at all close to being released. We'll just have to continue to wait to see what actually develops.

It sounds like she's under an NDA to me, with similar restrictions to the Andromeda dev team. It's kinda standard practice in the video game industry to make sure no one with insight into a game's development - whether story or mechanics - can say anything about it until the marketing team gives them the go-ahead.
Anyway, congratulations are in order! I haven't read the book she won for yet - The Fifth Season - 'cause I'm still working my way through her Inheritance Trilogy, but I'm looking forward to it all the more now. I still honestly can't believe BioWare managed to get an author with three Nebula award nominations, four Hugo award nominations, and now a Hugo win, to write a video game tie-in novel.

If she is indeed the author for the first book, if not more, i look forward to the reads. If she's not, congratulations to her regardless. Reads like she really earned the award.

This is definitely a step up from that Deception madness. Hope it's good. If I understand correctly, this is supposed to be some kind of prequel, "Initiation" I believe?

I suspect the thing Sartoz is referencing is the brief published on page 12 of Titan's 2016 Fiction Rights Guide. But with 7 days left in the month, it seems clear the August target mentioned there isn't happening, so who knows what else could have changed.

You don't care about the how because there is no satisfactory answer to the how, so you would rather damage the logical integrity of the ME universe than question BioWare's dubious judgment.

Awesome!
I really should get back into finishing The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, but I'm neck deep in the Expanse series at the moment and I just can't start another series now... I'm this close to finishing Cibola Burn and I. Need. More... (also: bless the Maker for Kindle, since it means there's about 5 seconds between me buying a book and me reading it)

I thought there was controversy surrounding Hugo now. Ideological fights from both sides and less to do with stories.

You don't care about the how because there is no satisfactory answer to the how, so you would rather damage the logical integrity of the ME universe than question BioWare's dubious judgment. I don't think one would get very far trying to argue for the logical integrity of the MEverse. The setting establishes from the get-go that technology can function for thousands of years somehow, so it's much easier to accept that a ship can travel between two galaxies than it is to accept that a person can be brought back to life after falling from orbit, or that a plant can rapidly produce clones that possess both biotics and weapons.

I thought there was controversy surrounding Hugo now. Ideological fights from both sides and less to do with stories. Yep and Jemisin said some controversial things in the past, but like Heir, doesn't matter unless she injects her ideology into her work. Indeed so. I've read the Inheritance Cycle and The Fifth Season and they're all very readable books. The Inheritance cycle even has this rare thing: an ending I love. I never noticed any elements in her books that didn't feel natural. So whatever ideology she has IRL, she knows how to write good stories. I respect that. Even if she does inject her ideology into her work - I don't think any writer can avoid that completely btw - as long as it feels natural to the setting, it's ok with me. Edit: I am reminded again of Tolkien's famous comments on allegory and applicability. I don't mind it if stories set in fictional worlds have application for real-world issues, because that's in the hand of the reader. I don't like it, though, if they appear to be explicitly written to send a message about real-world issues. For the same reason, I applaud it how elements of Thedas are applicable to real-world racism while remaining perfectly in their own world (example: the city elves), while I do mind that in DAI, some of Thedas' characters look - completely without precedent in this long-running world - exactly like real-world Africans. Jemisin appears to understand the difference and she writes her stories so that whatever applicability they may have, they remain in their own world. Edit2: If the claims about her "controversial comments" are aimed at her comments about Theodore Beale, they appear to be completely spot-on.

A publication date of November 16 also fits well with (some of) the floodgates opening on N7 Day.
