Seriously. I love books (like, actual, real books) but buying a Kindle is the best consumer decision I've made in the last decade. Absolutely zero regrets. I loved collecting books but there's something about just having a whole library with you, without it being strapped to your back, that's great (i'm lazy and notorious for reading multiple books at once). So true! And what I love especially is that (re)reading trilogies / series is so much more convenient with Kindle... plus, as someone who has to order from overseas, I love the fact that I can instantly buy books with prices that would otherwise maybe cover taxes and postage. Also... I'm kinda running out of shelving.

It will be interesting to read the Mass Effect Andromeda book. I hope it sets up why they went to Andromeda instead of the other side of the Galaxy.

Also... I'm kinda running out of shelving. kindle unlimited package but since I rarely every leave the house I just use the desktop app actually I share the kindle account with the Mrs so when I'm not wasting away in front of the goggle box or desperately smashing keys playing some game or other I'm reading, apparently I've read 400 books since April on the kindle app and I seem to be able to average between 2 and 3 books a day when I'm not doing much else of course I can always ninja her kindle and read on that but it hurts my eyes...... funny thing my bookshelf was overflowing (double stacked) so a decade ago I built a second one and that's quadruple stacked on all shelves, now I don't tend to buy books any more but all the ones I like I give good feedback for, and since amazon tracks that stuff I know ive given feedback for over 400 of them which to be fair isn't bad cos i'm normaly pretty poor at giving feedback (which accounts for whey they keep reminding me to give feedback for the other 100 or so that just didn't flick my switch), another reason I really like the online books idea though is any idiot can scribble a few words down and publish, which means that instead of a few hundred books a year being available theres thousands that get relased and a lot of them despite being short are actually good fun reading:) @op a fair number of vendors are suggesting that the books should be available around Nov 14th 2016 but they all give out different author /publisher details for the book that's been confirmed as "going to be released" I would be surprised if its release date is much later than that given the last order dates for xmass but so far none of them are saying it will be available in digital format(s) which I would of thought was a mistake/

I agree, skip Deception, read the others. While I wouldn't consider them great books, they'll do for a Mass Effect fan.

It will be interesting to read the Mass Effect Andromeda book. I hope it sets up why they went to Andromeda instead of the other side of the Galaxy. yeah especially given that other galaxies would have been in the opposite direction to the void between galaxies where the reapers were hiding, also how is it possible they managed to travel to Andromeda so fast without needing a fuel truck the size of earth for the breaking thrusters, given the distance involved they would have completely depleted any ftl based drive system along the way and without the mass effect gates at either end its not like they could of shot themselves forwards with one and then used normal jets to slow down ...... something seriously needs explaining about those points in the book

I'd recommend them all, except Deception. Only I've never read it.. It's just that everyone tells me not to.
I think I like the comics more than the novels though.

I recommend everything but Deception. Only read Deception if you want to read about Someone not knowing the difference between "Hologram Man" and "Ilusive Man" who gets stabbed with a toothbrush afterwards .. best part about the book, really.

Novels: I read Revelation Ascension and retribution and liked them. Revelation is certainly my fav because of Saren. Never read Deception but I've heard so many bad things about it. Comicbooks : Homeworld is my favourite, with Evolution.

I read the first book in the series and was unimpressed; found it boring for the most part and the characters uninteresting. Only my opinion, but the DA novels are much better.
That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new author can do. Is there any word on a release date yet?

All books except Deception (seriously: I actually suffered through that train wreck) are pretty good.
Haven't read any of the comics, so I can't really say anything about them.

I would be surprised if its release date is much later than that given the last order dates for xmass but so far none of them are saying it will be available in digital format(s) which I would of thought was a mistake/ I think the problem we're running into here is everything being seen are placeholders for the actual product. If the publishers differ, maybe it's regional differences, where different pubs would be used? Either way, i don't think later is an option if they want the book to be a prequel.

@op a fair number of vendors are suggesting that the books should be available around Nov 14th 2016 but they all give out different author /publisher details for the book that's been confirmed as "going to be released" I would be surprised if its release date is much later than that given the last order dates for xmass but so far none of them are saying it will be available in digital format(s) which I would of thought was a mistake/ <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> As long as it is in paperback. I can go to a book store where you can sit and read. The 1st two chapters should tell me all I need to know for a buy / no buy decision.

I hope the book doesn't get cancelled or anything. They had also promised ro rerelease Deception but...that never happened. Initiation is a very important book and they have to do a really good job with it because it is supposed to be that link between the Milky Way and Andromeda.People have many expectations from it and I don't blame them. it has to be well written, respectful to the established lore and at the same time answer hundreds of questions. As an owner of the previous ME books -with the exception of Deception- I am looking forward to this book.It is an instant buy for me.(Even though I think it will not answer my questions )

You can read Deception here: imgur.com/a/lAVjiI recommend it. You'll laugh a lot because this comic version pretty much mirrors the book. It's not a gross exaggeration at all, which makes it that much more hilarious.

Haven't read any of the comics, so I can't really say anything about them. I think they're as good as the novels, even if much lighter reading. Some of them touch on new material (like the Illusive Man/Evolution stuff), but Homeworlds and Foundation add to existing story. Some improve it drastically.

I think Mass Effect Redemption and Evolution are pretty terrible. There's an emphasis on artwork over content, with some pages only having three panels. I think the summaries in the wiki page are a longer read than the actual comics.

If you only read one book then I'd recommended Revelation as it's a good standalone read even if you know the broad strokes of the story as it's a nice homage to Anderson with fun action sequences peppered with some political intrigue. Saren doesn't get nearly as much characterisation here as he does in Evolution. Ascension and Retribution are a two part story about a Cerberus agent called Grayson but for the most part the most interesting stuff in them are the cameo roles from the Illusive Man and Aria.
After the book trilogy i'd recommend getting the homeworld comic series and the foundation comic series on dark horse digital as those are a ton of fun self contained episodic prequels about every major squadmate in the series from Garrus, Tali, Liara to Mordin, Thane, Wrex, etc. Foundation features a metaplot about Brookes which ties everything together but it's little more than a distracting and unnecessary sideshow, imo.

The books > the comics, and both are mediocre at best, in addition to inessential and inconsequential, despite being written by some of Bioware's main ME writers. Imagine a video game tie-in to a movie, and that's about the quality that you'll face.
The worst is ME: Deception (so I've heard) and also the last comics, the Foundation comics, which take key moments from the series that should've remained up to our imagination and then does a literal and a hatchet job on them. The Foundation comics flirt with the odiousness of any change George Lucas made to the Star Wars series years after theatrical release. I hope Mac Walters doesn't ever write another ME comic or nov--whoops, too late. He's slated to write the final Andromeda novel. We're screwed.

Some of them touch on new material (like the Illusive Man/Evolution stuff), but Homeworlds and Foundation add to existing story. Some improve it drastically. The foundation comic for Thane was odd to me. I read through Thane's old 2010-2011 BSN thread when I first joined BSN in mid 2013. Some fans had headcanoned his wife to be a doctor or scientist back in 2010 or 2011. In 2014 foundation comic she is a medical scientist. Many past arts made Irikah as a yellow drell. In foundation Irikah is yellow, and so is Kolyat. Thane says batarians killed his wife. In foundation, a human sith lord rapes and kills Thane's wife. The art leads us to believe Kahje is populated mainly by humans. The police investigating his wife's death scene on Kahje are all humans. Some comics were good, like Jacob's, some not so good.

Jacob was cool, Zaeed, Mordin, Jack, Wrex, Tali and Garrus in Homeworld.. those stood out to me. Oh and Kaidan.
