I wonder if Bioware/EA will opt to pay for Denuvo protection on ME:A despite it now being consistently cracked by pirates or will they use it and hope that it takes them more than three-four months to be cracked? Bethdesa have removed it from Doom after getting cracked (and probably getting a refund from that) torrentfreak.com/denuvo-removed-from-doom-after-game-gets-cracked-161208

Bethdesa have removed it from Doom after getting cracked (and probably getting a refund from that) torrentfreak.com/denuvo-removed-from-doom-after-game-gets-cracked-161208They probably will for Denuvo still has one of the best records for preventing piracy, Doom had an activation bypass and was used to bypass several other games until Denuvo patched the flaw. The only game that I know of that has been 100% hacked is Tomb Raider for they were only able to break a single version of Denuvo and I bet they have gone back and created new versions. Edit: Just to clarify my response a bit since I went back and read a couple of articles. Doom wasn't broken they were able to use an activation bypass to stop the check which has been common. Right now as far as I can find Denuvo has been fully broken on two games Rise of the Tomb Raider and Inside, they have been able to bypass it on other games like they have been for years. The other thing about Denuvo is that publishers I don't think expect it to work forever since it is a static piece of software, but to prevent piracy for a couple of months during peak sales after launch. It is interesting to see if they have been able to use what they learned from Rise of the Tomb Raider and Inside to make further breaks, but I think it would have made news if they had been able to break and not bypass it for other games since then.

The game is gonna be pirated anyways, is just matter of time. And how costly is Denuvo? I bet is not particularly cheap. Instead of wasting heaps of money on a DRM that gets bypassed sooner or later, they could use the money to make a better game and in the process not fuck over the people who actually bought the game. DRM nowadays is more a nuisance to the buyer than it is to the pirate, and the buyer pays for it... Gee.

EA Games' latest games have all had Denuvo (Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, FIFA 17, Mirror's Edge Catalyst), as did DAI, so MEA is pretty much guaranteed to have it.

Overall, it is at least a bit of a step forward - it's part of the game's main exe file, so if you uninstall the games, Denuvo is also gone from your machine. I had the disk version of ME1, which came with a nasty rootkit-like variant of Securom that remained installed on your system and checked *every* exe file you tried to run, not just Mass Effect 1. I remember getting totally unrelated crashes with other programs after installing ME1, and it took me days to figure out that I needed to update the Securom drivers. Dragon Age Origins came with a lame EA authentication service that installed itself on your system. And then there was StarForce, which also embedded itself into your system and nuked every optical drive emulator it found, no matter what you used them for. Fun times back then.

Please stop perpetuating that myth you can't detect the effects of it. It certainly makes sense, you need a fairly extensive program if you want to do what this Trojan horse is supposed to be doing. Constant checks, scanning other programs, etc. Steam did or does that with the Valve Anti-Cheat. Denuvo doesnt " The Chinese warez group 3DM claimed to have defeated Denuvo Anti-Tamper on 1 December 2014.The group claimed that the technology involves a "64-bit encryption machine" that requires cryptographic keys unique to the specific hardware of each installed system" The DRM that is intrusive is Origin, Steam and UPlay. You have to launch them first to play your own game and if on steam you go offline for more than 30 days you can't launch your game in Offline mode.

Denuvo does its job, which is to mitigate the degree to which piracy cuts into profit margins. The majority of pirating, just like buying, takes place during the release period. I don't even think Denuvo promises that they'll keep pirates from pirating forever, cuz with enough time and effort it WILL be cracked. They just need to delay it for long enough.
So, yes. MEA will have Denuvo.

It makes me laugh the way PC users complain they always get shitty ports and wonder why. This is why. Console piracy is much less frequent than PC games. You're only hurting yourselves. Batman Arkham Knight was a classic example of why developers spend the bare minimum on PC development.
Ah well, there's always Star Citizen haha!

Denuvo isn't secuROM. It's been years, bring in solid proof or stfu about the dangers of it.

As mentioned, I suspect Denuvo's main purpose is to prevent blatant piracy in the first couple of months after release. That it'll eventually be cracked is a foregone conclusion, but if they can maximize sales between release and crack then the software's kinda, sorta, done it's job.
I'm not a fan of DRM but I understand why companies use it.

Denuvo isn't secuROM. It's been years, bring in solid proof or stfu about the dangers of it. The only downside for end users i have read was high HDD/SSD disk read/write problems, but this argument is now 2 years old and i havent heard from newer releases that they cause problems. i believe the main discussion about this copy protection is happening over at the dishonored 2 forums. people blame denuvo, but its just a very badly optimized engine (ID-Engine). i didnt notice people crying in forums about any problems with the EA games so i dont care whether they use denuvo. Also @ OP: Like in this thread said, there was only 1 game cracked sucessfully, other games have 1 FPS and the hacker scene already said that cracking denuvo games without luck or bypassing stuff can take up to years because the copy protection "infests" itself in many game files and there is no way to create a general template for cracking because every game has different files. now that games get copy protections removed there should be people comparing whether denuvo had any kind of impact on performance, the only thing i can imagine is that it lengthens loading times. also this is not a console war thread, there are reasons why people enjoy pc and people that enjoy consoles.

Batman Arkham Knight was a classic example of why developers spend the bare minimum on PC development. Ah well, there's always Star Citizen haha! Are you seriously blaming PC users who pay full price on games and DON'T pirate games for the fact that piracy exists? What the fuck kind of backward logic is that? Want to play on inferior outdated machines which are locked to the whims of their respective producers? Be my guest. I on the other hand, am going to continue enjoying the many advantages of my PC, not the least of which is the ability to mod or use KB+M. If there's a shitty console port I will avoid buying it and bash it like it deserves. And considering that PC sales numbers are rising rather than falling, your point is moot anyway. Don't really care about denuvo, but if i pay 60€ for a game i expect a properly working controlling scheme with a GUI tailored for PC. When did Bioware make a decent inventory system specially tailored for PC, when Neverwinter Nights was released. DA:O and DA2 had an okay inventory but DAI, ehh, it was a mess, same goes for the GUI, and the KB+mouse controlls. Just hope they will optimize this time really well. No more 30fps cinematic limit, etc...

The thing that perfectly sums up their attitude on the subject, is that every time you see their devs play a game, they are doing it with a controller... I know, with DAI they promised us the stars and we got wonky camera, and an action mode, where i battled the controll system rather than the enemies, and in the other the camera. Why didn't they just copy DA1 and 2 controlls, there was nothing wrong with them, but noo.

I had a very shitty time with DA:I on day 1 due to glitches that literally broke the game 3-4 times in major ways on PS4. Therefore I'm not going to purchase ME:A on launch, but I will get it on PC with a crack to play around with it or get a feel for it and hopefully purchase it on PS4 within a month in hopes that it's been properly patched. ME3 was also super, super glitchy when I played it to the point where I have a bad memory of it with the numerous 360 head turns and cross-eyed characters etc.
I'm better off getting the "real" experience after a bit of time.

The best protection against piracy is to make a game so good people want to buy it. That is a falsehood there might be people that feel that way, but people are still going to pirate for other reasons. Such as "Screw BioWare Mass Effect 3 killed my childhood" or "AAA games are not worth $80" another "I want to play it now, but I only way to pay a sale price" or "I want to demo the game for two months and then I will decide if I want to pay for it".

I know, i have being trying to avoid using steam when possible since i made a GOG account. Steam has a pretty interface but it's even worse than Origin when it comes force you to download useless crap.

Sure, a few 13 yo might be like that, certainly not all pirates. Usually the motive is simpler: There is an argument to be made that most people who pirate games wouldn't really buy these same games if they couldn't pirate them. They either can't or won't pay the price required to buy these games. So while their actions are certainly bad, there are not that many actual lost sales for the company due to piracy. Those are fair points, I just don't think there is a single solution to piracy that will fix all the reasons why people do pirate a game which looking back I failed to properly say.
