Just wanted to drop by, because of current events - if you want to avoid infection by a virus a protective mask that covers your mouth and nose does not cut it by a long shot. They do not filter well and you need to protect your eyes as well, the eye has open blood vessels, meaning if someone sneezes and that stuff gets into your eyes you'll get it anyway. There is a reason why dentists and surgeons use a mask PLUS a face shield, the reason is hepatitis. A lot of dentists caught that virus via the blood mist created by a drill, the microscopic hardly noticeable blood droplets carried the virus and they got it into their eyes. Wear at least glasses, and for the total emergency get a military grade mask that covers your entire face, and shave your beard for a proper seal. Also don't cheap out on filters, get NEW Level P3 filters for the mask. Don't use the surplus filters, they can hardly be trusted after decades of storage. Those filters use active charcoal, problem is that stuff is brittle and tends to breaks down in itself over time turning into very fine dust, resulting in poor filtration and very high breathing resistance. Breathing through NEW filters is hard enough already. So in a nutshell: get a mask that covers your full face. Get a NEW P3+ filter. Forget the small masks that cover you mouth and nose. And don't forget that a filter only lasts 2-4 hours depending on your breathing rate and ambient humidity. When you do heavy labor it can go down to 1 hour. For example the M65 gas mask uses NATO standard 30mm filters, and its very well designed. That kind of kit, properly used, is the only way you can absolutely guarantee no infection.-

Here is my equipment, a new production M65 mask, the exact model I was using in the NBC corps. For filters I use RD40 Dräger P3 A/A2B2X2E2P3, those protect against organic gasses, inorganic gasses and particles to level 3. Particles is the important part when it comes to stopping germs. You'll need at least a class P2 filter, but you'd be better off with the highest class, P3. I also have a backup mask, should my main mask get damaged. Or alternatively its for somebody I care about who does not have a mask. (There is no such person but who knows ) For the ladies I recommend a tight full body suit for extra protection.

Adding onto beetles post, I found a gas-mask that is 3mm filter compatible off amazon. (pretty sure that 3mm is a standard filter option nowadays) $90. All things considered, not the worst investment.

All things considered, not the worst investment. There are several standards nowadays, but what I have found is that the NATO standard military grade filters (RD40) are considerably cheaper to get, and in a super-emergency you can use military supply. Its like with calibers, sure, 30-06 is plenty available but 5.56 and 7.62 are NATO standard therefore cheaper and always to get around the world

Hopefully, having to deal with such a gas never comes to pass. The problem is, if there is a nerve gas attack you have only about 10 seconds to fully cover yourself, with mask and all. In my military service time when we did gas attack drills my instructor said that most nerve gas agents would kill us long before we would realize that we're under attack. After only a couple seconds of exposure you get spams so bad you wont be able to do even perform the simplest movements, and then you choke and die. There is an ''antidote'' for such nerve agents, but you have to put that syringe directly into your heart to make it spread fast enough in your body to make it work, and you too have to do that in a couple seconds before you start twitching so hard you cannot hold that syringe anymore. So protecting yourself from nerve agents? Good luck with that.

Not dying from accidentally consuming the world's deadliest mushroom survival Survival rule: stay away from all the shrooms in general - unless you are absolutely positively starving. They offer relatively little calories but one mistake and you're instantly promoted into the afterlife.

Vid talks about how to differentiate between venomous and nonvenomous snakes, particularly if you live in the American south and more specifically Georgia(i've encountered a few snakes there myself when i was up in a relative's cabin). Vid shows you how you can tell the difference from just the shedded skin of a snake.

Since we are having this global health crisis and since I had just gone grocery shopping I decided to do a quick inventory of all food stuffs I now have in my house (canned goods, frozen foods, flours, pasta, rice, sauces etc.) I wanted to see how long my food rations would last if I had say 2 medium-light meals per day. I figure I could stretch it to about 120 days.

That's damn fine! I haven't done the calculations but I think I could go a month, and if I really stretched it maybe 6-7 weeks? I bought lots of rice, canned fish and noodles. (Sadly, I forgot canned fruits.) A light meal would be rice mixed with a can of tuna, and later maybe a piece of bread. That's not much but it would keep me alive. I wish I could do 120 days though. Without resorting to looting. I have to admit part of the food money went into ammunition, its never a bad idea to be able to protect yourself and your supplies effectively. Supplies are worth absolutely nothing if people can simply come and take it away from me.

One thing I am short on that I should have picked up today is canned fruit. I have almost none of that. Slipped my mind as I never buy the stuff normally, only fresh fruit.

Slipped my mind as I never buy the stuff normally, only fresh fruit. Yeah, same. I wonder though, do canned fruits even contain the vitamins to at last partially replace fresh fruit or is it just for taste? I mean, is it essential? Problem is, my main source for vitamin c is potatoes, but I have not bought any as I do not have the means to store them in a way they keep fresh for longer than 2 weeks. I was thinking about vitamin C supplements, but according to several doctors very poor resorption of artificial vitamin C sources make it almost useless.

Canned fruit does retain vitamin c, and worst case is having supplements that don't absorb as well is better than having none at all. Potatoes do actually store really well if you have some place cool and dark. There's a trick to "curing" them to thicken the skin but I don't remember what that is. You could also keep Kale, it's high in Vitamin C, and you could sew it together as impenetrable armor if need be. I'm sure Beerfish has lots of Kale saved up.

I tried to store potatoes a dozen times, it never worked out. They either started rotting or shriveling like ballsacks in Siberian winter, in a matter of 14-20 days. I tried storing them dry and cold but same thing happened. Maybe I am doing something wrong, or it depends on the kind of potato. I'd rather drench myself in acid and whip myself to death before I'd even consider eating kale.

As my last little precaution before everyone in this city starts going into panic mode is to get some dried fruit. It keeps for a long time.
