I'd certainly wouldn't be opposed to their being brothels present in the colonised areas Andromeda whether that be high class Sha'ira acolytes or seedier colony efforts.

It will be interesting to see how Bioware adds a brothel into the setting of the game. I'm expecting there to be a brothel. I'm automatically assuming there will be one. To not have a brothel would be a slap in the face. All great RPGs have a brothel or similar concept. Mass effect one had a brothel.  I'm not asking for something NEW nor am i asking for special privileges. The brothel can be a place to offer interesting characters & content for straight, gay or lesbian gamers. Technically, ME1 didn't have a brothel. However, DAO had one so it's not like BioWare is opposed to the idea. Man Dragon Age brothel ain't shit compared to Witcher 3! |

Agreed, but I guess with where technology is at in the ME universe, the "oldest occupation" might be pretty much dead outside of a few, high class escorts for the very wealthy. I don't care whether there will be brothels present in MEA or not.
But IF there are, they shouldn't be jokes like the one in DA2. You walk in with someone as attractive as Isabela in your party, and you find yourself surrounded by emaciated elven scarecrows, wondering who could be that desperate. No thanks.
Then again, a brothel with krogans and play doh aliens in lingerie could lead to a lot of youtube fun to be had.

There is one excellent reason asari (exclusive) brothels should exist in every major, multi-species hub: breeding with other species to avoid Ardat-yakshi syndrome. Most other species will be pairing up with their own kind to breed and build their numbers, except the deviants who don't care about their species' family values . The asari will need to build their numbers as well, but there is a harsh stigma about doing so with other asari. They have no qualms about raising little illegitimate babies. They won't take you to court for child support. These hookers won't know who that baby daddy is, no DNA test to prove it. I doubt they care. They just don't want the ardat-yakshi issue. *Edit* If there are no asari brothels, then I expect there will be slave dungeons where asari slavers have been kidnapping and selling war brides and war husbands to forcefully mind sex and impregnate themselves silly. Tokenism. Desire Demons are an oppressed minority, they deserve more representation than just one token character. Do you know how hard it is for a Desire Demon to live under the yoke of the Pride-riarchy? Not to mention the wage power gap between Desire Demons and Pride Demons. I'm all for more diverse desire demon appearances! And forms! Like, one should show up as a pretty purple lady who forgot her pants, and one should show up as a slice of pumpkin pie with just a tiny bit of cream on top. |

- Brothels are the shady or upscale place that offers controversial content, sex, thugs, criminal activity, meeting place for criminal overlords.
Not putting in a brothel would make the world less believable, depending on the scenario of course. In most cases a brothel adds to immersion TEN FOLD. I don't consider Sha'ira's place a brothel. She is the only person there who ever offers sex, and even then it isn't the first thing she offers. The establishment itself does not fit the definition of a brothel. And no, having it would make the world less believable because it goes against the previous games thus breaks immersion(using your own argument from other threads) and because it doesn't fit the scenario. The most you'll almost certainly get is the nightclub on the Nexus probably having exotic dancers like we see in Chora's Den, Afterlife, and Purgatory. Sha'ira and her acolytes were loosely based on hetairai, in line with much of the lore on the Asari, which was inspired from ancient Greece. HetairaAs such, I think it's fair to describe the Consort's business as a brothel. It was just a high class one that offered other services in addition to sex. I do agree though that there probably won't be anything similar in Andromeda. |
