Hi guys!!
I just released a video today on the MEOdyssey YouTube channel just discussing my wants for the new character creator in Mass Effect Andromeda:
And it was interesting reading the comments to see what people really wanted from the character creators based on their own personal preferences and history playing RPGs.
Would be really keen for you guys to share you thoughts? What do you want (or I guess really not want) from Mass Effect Andromeda's character creator?

What game's character creator is shown starting at 2:50? It looks awesome.

Destiny and it's not. It's absurdly simple and basic. The characters look nice though and the hair styles aren't complete garbage or look like plastic helmets pretending to be hair. But that's really more of an artistic thing then anything else. BioWare's just... at odds with hair and beards. To solid, to shiny. edit: Far as what I want? I think DAI did a damn good job so I'd say 'what DAI did but with more options'. Also would be nice if hair wasn't so awkward looking. They got a habit of not doing any form of transparencies on hair so it all just abruptly stops and looks fake at the edge plus seems like a single solid color thats overly shiny (hair is very shiny it just has more depth to it, the light spreads out in it like are skin does). If I had 1 major gripe with character creators its breads though. Mostly the lacked option of a basic trimmed beard that's not to excessive or fancy. Had it in KoTOR, think it may of existed in DAO - haven't seen it since. It's either 50 shades of stashes or hobo beard. Literally nothing in between. I mean it's nice to look like you haven't trimmed your beard in the past 30 years but c'mon... C'MON! Gimmie a full beard that's not 5 inchs long. As an aside FO4 had 1 beard that kinda fit that description but the actual mesh for the ugly as sin solid hair mass literally disappears if your not in cutscene camera distances to a character. And what's left is just this solid color of garbage of textureless non-sense on your cheeks lol. They could of at least used the full-skin-tight beard texture for the under hair texture lol. Ahh vidja-game beards, one of these days Ill find one I like. edit: apparently I said bread instead of beards... I'm leaving it like that cause its funny but I totally mean beards.

I never really play male characters as much, but when I do, agree that the facial hair options are 'lacking' definitely.

The more options the better. But two key areas where I hope Bioware can improve from ME3 is the eyes and hair. I thought the eyes in ME3 had a kind of 'dead' look to them somehow, I can't put my finger on it but something was off. The hair though is where i'm really hoping for improvement. Even in Dragon Age Inquisition hair was still pretty weak.
I don't doubt that we'll be able to put together a decent looking female Ryder, as the one in the trailer and pics looked great to me. Male Ryder, i'm hoping for a decent default like Sheploo in the trilogy.

DAI did good with the eyes, loved the two-tone option. I'm sure people would like that whole thing where both eyes are different color as an option which would be nice too.
On the topic of hair there is 1 change i would LOVE to see - color options. BioWare does not understand what blonde means. That has been absurdly apparent since ME1. Blonde, apparently is either platinum blonde (which alright sure) or 'dyed my hair with mustard' which... wtf? Anyway point is considering all the color complexity we got in DAI it was a shame that didn't extend to the hair.
So with that in mind I would love, and hope, that they give us full color range on hair. Preferably 2-3 color options or a kinda comlextion slider for hair except it's highlight patterns or something.
Also and this is important to me for some bizar reason - Eyebrow intensity slider. Now all I mean by that is a basic slider bar that determines how transparent (faded) the eyebrows are. You know, like tattoos or makeup.
I think the eyebrow thing is born from my blonde-ish eyebrows that don't stand out (all be it my hairs gotten all darker the older I got so it's a super dark blonde, might as well just be brown now). It always bugs me when all colors make your eyebrows look like they're super contrasted with everything and just like AHHH EYEBROWS YEAAH. I wanna tone that shit down lol.
So yeah hair, important, not just the crap on your head. Maybe have eyebrows have there own color too. Yeah...

More choices in lighting effects while creating the character so we get a better idea of what the character will look like in different environments (the number of times I created a character that looked good in CC but horrible in the actual game.......... )

I'd like to see -- and I know this is touchy -- but a creator that does a bit better with variety of eye and nose shape. It takes work to make Shepard or the Inquisitor look Native American. I mean, on the other hand, humans are a pretty diverse crew and it'd be a pain to have presets for everything. I could just use a bit more flexibility, instead of wasting time on making three unibrows. Why, Bioware? XD
I do have a feeling I'll have at least one BIOWARE CHEEKBONES OF DOOM moment, where my lovingly crafted character turns out to look like a hideous frog person when exposed to natural lighting and animations. So yeah, a way to change your character after they get out into the world would be very welcome.

Would be nice to have the option sooner rather then later for sure.
The lighting though holy jebus yes. BioWare has had some bizar ass lighting for character creation forever, always far to dark for some reason. Like the skin color? I know far left is pasty white but one step up in CC looks like your character just dunked there face in spray tan. So I'm always hesitant to take it but in game it looks fine. It's just that dark off-green lighting screwing with everything.

I recognise it may be really hard, but I like it when a face has a 'face-code' like ME3 then I can recreate my character.
Even better if that can carry over.

I would love more diverse hair options, and I really really would love it if when I finished a character, I could somehow save it--either by the number system like the ME series had or having some default slots set aside for us to save some faces in.
Sometimes I need to recreate a character or have to tweak something. It would be awesome to be able to load it or enter a code and then do the changes I would like. While DAI was fun in that I felt like I could customize a bit more, having to redo characters sucked because there were so many screens to go back and check to make sure everything lined up.

Hair.
Honestly, that's it for me. Imo, Bioware's been improving on every aspect BUT hair. At this point it's kind of...ridiculous. Hair in character creation for Bioware games feels like a kid avoiding a homework assignment and then trying to bullshit it on the ride to school.

More lighting options, face codes, and better hair (modeling, textures, lighting, animation, etc.). Although I'm usually terrible at making faces in Bioware games, so I'd also like to see them do face scans for the male and female defaults.

On the whole 'face number/save' it - Hell yeah 100% folks. Dark Souls 3 let you save faces, which resulted in me making new characters 'just' to mess with existing saved faces. Then I'd just use that whenever I could change my main chars face lol. If they could manage either of those, or both, that'd be pretty awesome.
Maybe a save option that uploads to a dragonagekeep like site between? Sharing faces cross platform anyone? Being able to browse shared faces? That'd be pretty damn sweet.

I do not give two shits about character customization. I'm the kind of guy that rolled with the default Sheploo face, and will probably do the same in Andromeda.
Oh, but don't get offended. That's just my opinion.

All I really care about is character codes like they did in ME 2 and ME 3. This will allow us, for those of us who like our characters and like playing them, the option to play them over and over and over again if we so choose. And give us the option for if we kind of like our character but want to tweak we can start the game over and start with the tweaks.
Speaking of which not really a character creation opinion per se but BioWare has the rather bad habbit...since pretty much forever...to have long grandiose cut scenes at the start of their games. So you go in, start a character, think you like said character, but then discover you don't when you start the game. The prospect of facing that long arse cutscene again is...most daunting. So, I would prefer keeping a short introductory cutscene followed by you playing around with the character a bit and then another much longer cutscene.

Face-codes, for the love of the remnants include face-codes. Or, at the very least, show us the coordinates if you'll use grids like DA:I did.

I'll take a lighting preview mode - watch your character emote in a variety of lighting conditions before leaving the CC, to make sure they don't look like demonspawn in the actual game - some better hair - with a wider variety of colour options/the potential for contrasting highlights - and some basic body variations--nothing fancy, like a slider or height options, but three or four muscle mass/overall shape options would be absolutely fantastic.
EDIT: Oh, and face codes! Or at least some equivalent.
