My first big disappointment with MEA. When they said they were adding a way to share faces, I assumed that the CC was going to have loads of options... Instead, it looks more stripped down than even the original trilogy. At least you could change the nose, mouth, eye shapes, as well as eyebrows in ME1. It's kind of baffling that they don't let us modify the default twins, since the options you are given are literally just stretching/shrinking the existing face geometry. Also, the hair texture looks really bad. It looks like paint.
I'm sure I'll be able to make an attractive male Ryder... But it will just look like everyone elses, so I may just use the default.

I blame Joel Macmillan Montreal's mayor. God damnit, if only BioWare Montreal had not been allowed to establish a firm there, and then they could've moved to Edmonton, or something, then it would automatically had been a better game. I don't agree with that. You're making a lot of assumptions of the actual relevance of Montreal in this and other decisisons. Let's keep in mind that Walters and Gamble are still in the top spot on the team. And the lack of options in this case is a design decision, not one taken because they didn't have enough experience.

I personally enjoy taking hours creating my own character in cc and am saddened to see that, that may not be possible with the reduced options for the faces.

And yet more options are coming post-launch. Yep, keep telling yourself this isn't the result of a downgraded creative vision. Mike even wrote "The MEA character creator is so much more robust than MET's" or something to that effect when a fan asked. I take it, that's a PR move but if it isn't it's just another example of them having crunched too hard and being too close to their own work to notice that it's been lagging behind.

The CC is complete rubbish. Only one usable preset and the options are extremely limited.

That was exactly my train of thought. I was looking forward to Origin Access because I though I'd really spend 10 hours in the CC and I'd prepare my Ryders right away and wait for the official release. Now, or I 'll use default or touch the cc for just some minutes. I took two major disappointments today. This one and romances. But the latter is for another topic.

It seems to me that they're compromising freedom when it comes to making a character, in exchange for them looking better across the board. The non-white characters especially look miles ahead of what you could achieve in any previous Bioware game to me.
I'm personally fine with this trade-off, but Bioware should probably have explained all this before today and revealed the CC themselves rather than let Youtube videos do it.

alyssa marrocco @allyssaam @tibermoon looks pretty good so far, though I really wish you could choose your eyebrow style =(
Ian Soon Frazier @tibermoon @allyssaam Yeah, I wish we'd gotten that in too. Down side of the way we did facial scans, unfortunately.

Vexation. I don't understand. There is no excuse for this. Before anyone says I'm whining, I have low expectations: That features should be at least as good as their previous iteration. Whether you compare this to DA:I or ME3, it's much, much worse. No sliders for mouth shape, nose, eyes? No complexion? I can't add freckles to my character? Adding tattoo options is all well and good, but what's the point if I can't change the FACE, the most important part of the CHARACTER CREATOR? I mean whatisthiseven? Idon'teven. Ican'tspeakeven. DA:I was on the same freaking engine! Couldn't they have ported the CC framework and expanded on it? Instead, we get the worst character creator in any Bioware game I've played, by far. If there's one thing I can't stand, in any form, it's regression. Things should never get worse. This is regression. This is, quite frankly, pathetic. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I guess this is why we haven't seen much of the CC before now. I guess they really want us to use the default faces. I needed to say that. My hype has been deflated once again. I'm sick of all these standard RPG features being cut or dumbed down. You know what, Bioware? Hire me to oversee the CC. Hell, I'll do it for free. I'm obviously more passionate about it than whoever was in charge of this disaster

No beards/even less hairstyles and less customization than dai. Clearly aiming for a different market. Right now its a solid no for me. Knew something was up when we didnt see it earlier

Good!!!!!!!!! They have at least one hair style I like!!!! Facial hair downgraded. Not surprised. At least fallout had a million more options. Very disappointing Bioware.

The problems of expectation and reality clashing. Or more accurately, the problems of a developer not coming close to their own established status quo in their past work. I'm not judging Bioware, I don't know what their constraints and challenges were. But we are not being unreasonable and insane here. It is not pie in the sky to think that a series will meet its own standards, or that a developer will come close to what has been seen in its products before, which used the same engine. Come close, not even necessarily equal. That is just logic at work. This is shocking for a reason, and it's not because we all dreamed up a magical fantasy land CC, too good to be true and based on simulators which do nothing but let you make a character to your tastes. We were JUST expecting at least the status quo. Or you could play an acclaimed game with zero options at all... While this is funny, something to consider: this is part of the reason why I don't own that game and have no interest in getting it. As for the demos, I think it's a mistake to leave the CC to reviewers to demonstrate it rather than an official trailer to show it can look good. Here's hoping that changes. But you did notice the part where we can't choose nose, eye, brow, or mouth shape, right? The problem isn't whether we can make good-looking characters, the problem is that we can't choose. And since we saw everything in the CC, I don't think it's about who reviews or demonstrates. When someone clicks nose and there's no nose shape slider, that is definitive. It's not like a demonstrative trailer would alter the lack of options. Maybe the patch will, but I'm not holding my breath here. I'd rather assume less and get more than hope and be disappointed. Aside from the above, I defy anyone to seriously tell me my Inquisitors look like every other of their respective races.Inquisitors Album

I wasn't really paying attention to the male's when they were up there but I was loving what I was seeing out of the female hair options. There was more then one option which was tickling my fancy. While I'm very much disappointed in the CC, I do agree with this. The hair texture and the hair styles in general have never looked better. Almost all male and several female styles (although there are some female hairstyles that would have been great were it not for the, um, I guess, "Dishonored 2 style" side-part. I'm completely out of touch with hair fashion-- Is parting your hair ALMOST ON THE BACK OF YOUR FREAKING HEAD a thing nowadays? *clueless*) don't look too bad.

I expected the faces to actually look good- like real people- the way default Scott does for example. The other faces don't look like they are scans at all to me. And with such limited customization options, I doubt I can fix any of the other presets enough to make a good-looking guy. I will try my damnedest though.

I guess I can understand the face scanning argument when it comes to eyebrows, as that's a part of the scans, but what about the actual facial features? They can't have a bunch of different nose shapes or eye shapes using the same face texture? I just don't understand.

After seeing all those cc videos I'm pretty sure there's gonna be like two types of Sara and two types of Scott everywhere It's good tho, because all fanart you'll see, it's gonna be your Ryder since almost everyone will look the same! No but for real. Where are my freckles bioware?

I pretty much only like preset 8 with Sara. But I want to make Asian Ryders and there is no way I can make preset 8 to look like Asian character just moving around her eyes and nose I'm thinking of doing an asian Ryder and I've gotta say, I'm pretty happy with 1st preset. You can make it look really good (at least, I think it looks amazing) Cool asian Ryder. And I think 1st Scott preset looks alright too, it just needs a bit of tweaking

I did not like the DA:I cc, and SWTOR had less customization on the heads than ME:A. I'd rather pick a head I like, than move sliders for 2 hours to end up with nothing particularly satisfying. Inquisition did not let you reshape nose and eyes that much, and the foreheads stayed practically the same on humans... the biggest differences were in the lower portion of the face. Oh, and the colors were atrocious. I dunno, I need to try it. I have played a few Bio games which had fixed heads, KOTOR, JE and SWTOR. So it's not like they have not done it before.

This makes me want to play a female after all.... not with this hair/colors, but the face is nice. I think I am pretty much sold. I have been trying so hard to create Asian faces in every CC, and I could never make it work :) Me=happy. Good cc.
