It seems to me that they're compromising freedom when it comes to making a character, in exchange for them looking better across the board. The non-white characters especially look miles ahead of what you could achieve in any previous Bioware game to me. I'm personally fine with this trade-off, but Bioware should probably have explained all this before today and revealed the CC themselves rather than let Youtube videos do it. I'm guessing this is exactly it. The system is closer to EVE's, albeit with far fewer points of articulation to tweak. Also, I wouldn't count on them ever offering more feature options to be swapped in, unless they add a face just for that. In the trilogy, the non-Sheploo/Janechan presets were composites based on existing parts- they were designed as a suite with the intention of being mixed and matched. With scanned presets, there's probably simply too much variability between facial structure to make such a system work. I mean, in real life I might covet someone's nose, but any attempts to bolt it onto my face are probably going to result in something absolutely repulsive, even if scaled to fit. I'm not happy with this system, but I also don't think there's any call to "demand an explanation". They went for a consistency of quality between custom and default (and probably between PC Ryder and Alec) and the method they chose made the old way of doing things, with choices for individual features, unfeasible.

The scanning argument is likely utter horsecrap. Getting a 3d scanned human face into something that can be rendered and animated in a game requires so much manipulation in both polygons and pixels that getting rid of the scanned brows and replacing them with changeable overlays would be the least of your worries.

I pretty much only like preset 8 with Sara. But I want to make Asian Ryders and there is no way I can make preset 8 to look like Asian character just moving around her eyes and nose I'm thinking of doing an asian Ryder and I've gotta say, I'm pretty happy with 1st preset. You can make it look really good (at least, I think it looks amazing) Cool asian Ryder. And I think 1st Scott preset looks alright too, it just needs a bit of tweaking Agreed. As a girl of Asian decent, I'm finally pleased to at least have the opportunity to make a more realistic Asian hero!

So, I really don't want to go through 10+ pages for this answer so I will ask: Did anybody see if the scars could look older and healed? What I have seen so far is that they look really fresh, and that is a bit weird considering we get them before we are put in cryo. Apologies if it has been asked and answered too many times already.

I thought people were exaggerating about the CC, that they were expecting something absurd, with like 20 different options for the cheeks alone. I figured, DAI's was good, so this will be too. Nope. It's the trilogy's CC instead. The fuck. All they had to do was copy the human CC from DAI. It had plenty of options, the 2D plane for many of the features was nice. If anything, I expected this to make marginal improvements, since they had something from which to iterate. But instead it's 2012 again, in a game that's supposed to be all about choices and customizing your character. I suppose a better CC DLC is a pipe dream, isn't it? And for anyone who might trot out the "You're overreacting" to people who are disappointed, is the status quo really such a huge expectation? Just all of these little things dulling my interest in the game. Little things that say to me, "Maybe this team wasn't ready for a project this size." I don't even know what this world is when I'm actually considering buying a BioWare game for the MP instead of the SP.

So, is it like SWTOR then? Pick your head, change colours? At least SWTOR had some good looking faces + like tons of more customization options than this shit. Seriously what the fuck. This is THE WORST CC EVER in any Bioware game. (Even worse than the vanilla Skyrim one, possibly.) I never ever fucking imagined that MEA's CC could be worse than the original trilogy's. Not once. The eyes look lifeless, no complexions ( no freckles! no!!), no beards, you can't change eye shape or eyebrows or nose shape or anything and the presets are all ugly as hell. MEA's CC: "I am your every fear come to life." DAI's CC was nearly perfect how could MEA possibly go so wrong? This is the worst. I'm so disappointed.

Honest to god, the MP is the only thing that's making me keep my pre-order right now. The info dump these past two weeks on the SP has really soured my expectations for this game. But silly me, the equation for Expectations + BioWare = Disappointment is a formula I should learn by heart now.

Hum, I know you quoted me, but I have liked the SWTOR cc, and I like ME:A so far. I did not like the DA:I one tbh, because well, the sliders did not really do too much to nose, mouth, eyes, basically just pushing it out of looks okay to looks really weird looks. The eyes in particular, rotation was not even there, you could not really even replicate Elven eyes from DA2. The shine on the faces, the horrid hair and very limited selection of very unnatural colours, the fact that facial hair and hair was not split into different stream, the absence of black, the really crappy eyelashes, the gods only know how the make-up was applied... I think I prefer what I see posted in ME:A.

"The sliders didn't do much in Inquisition." AlbumI accept that some people have no talent with sliders. That doesn't mean they don't do anything for those of us who liked them. Please stop saying that. It's patently untrue.

Please stop saying that. It's patently untrue. I've seen your album the first time. Since you'd like to showcase it again, well, you put a lot of love in your every character, they are pretty, but they all look similar. Light skin, oval faces, medium sized noses, eyes and lips, all in a limited color scheme and no application of facial texturing, all smooth. You will likely find faces just like that in ME:A presets, plus those of us who want something out of that range will be able to play it too, instead of pushing the sliders to get nothing in return (the best I have managed in all MET/DA games is vaguely maybe Asian look). There is no reason for you to be upset.

Please stop saying that. It's patently untrue. Look you keep saying this but none of your inquisitors look that different from each other. They have different colouring but there's only a few different tweaks on the facial structure. You couldn't really make alot of different types of faces on the DAI cc. I'm really happy that's it's now possible to create characters that will actually look asian, black etc

I think there are some decent looking presets there, you just need to give them some of the better hair options, and perhaps remove the make-up.
The lack of some of the options that we've come to expect is disappointing though, and it really does seem like they've put a bunch of effort to make something worse than what they'd have had if they'd just ported across DAI and done some work on the hair.

It's evidently restricted because of the ludicrous decision to have the family change appearance alongside this pathetic excuse for a CC. Just borrow the skin tone and be done with it ffs. I knew the family angle was a bad idea the moment I saw it. It sucked in DA2 and now it returns to kill immersion here. If the preset eye shapes were oozing with character than I may have been able to forgive it... but they're all just dead... That's not really an excuse because Fallout 4 managed to get your families face to change while having a far superior CC. BW is just awful.

Since those present options are so horrible, I might actually use the default female Ryder if only we could change her hair and eye color. I wish that was possible.

alyssa marrocco @allyssaam @tibermoon looks pretty good so far, though I really wish you could choose your eyebrow style =( Ian Soon Frazier @tibermoon@allyssaam Yeah, I wish we'd gotten that in too. Down side of the way we did facial scans, unfortunately. I don't know, sounds like marketing, we dont move the hair on our eyebrows but the skin. The eyebrows probably are just textures anyway, unlike the hairstyles. Also we can make our eyebrows' shape look similiar to someone elses, yet we don't have the same face (scan).
