I tried to solo gold yesterday. Again. Dropped just before extraction. 55+ min. TSent, Carrier + Hurricane , Inc 4, Adrenaline 3. Giant-Collecturds.Yeah. I suck. I see a lot of "I suck", "I am a scrub" etc. going on in this thread because of failed solo attempts. Let me make this clear: - you DO NOT suck for failing a solo attempt the first, the second or the third time; ask most of the solo specialists here ( muahmuah, patrickbateman, @thetechnoturian etc) how many failed attempts it took them to be at that level, you might be surprised; - IMO, soloing is a totally different beast than playing with a team; you can be an excellent team player and not be able to finish a silver solo or, and I give you my example here from 4-5 months ago, you can regularly finish all your silver or gold solos without a problem and be a liability in a team game; it takes TIME to learn the tropes of both types of playing; - soloing platinum is a different category in itself in terms of solo playing, as it's totally unforgiving; I don't know if you play chess, it's like winning through a positional (or strategic) game, as opposed to a tactical game - it takes planning for the weaknesses of the other side, exploiting them and finishing through a harrowing end game with one pawn plus. Your case in point: 10W in 55min against Trollectors is a good time, as they are one of the most difficult factions to do objectives against (devices for instance are a nightmare if not an infiltrator). So to you and all the others: stop beating yourself up and try again; patience is the keyword. Thank you for kind words. Tried again and did complete my fastest ever gold solo against collectrolls. In 47.38 min. Below 50 min. Yay for me. . Will definitely try to improve and eventually try platinum.

Part of the reason I wanted to start this thread was to give everyone a sympathetic place to vent, because I bet most solo attempts end in failure. Failure is the norm, not something to feel down about. Since we pretty much only see people posting about their successes we expect a 100% success rate from ourselves, which is not realistic. The "your last solo ..." thread could have been that thread Then, yeah, part of getting confortable at soloing is accepting failure. I remember my first solos on gold, in the themed challenges thread, lol, i was ranting there after each fails, like it was the most bitter experience of the year. Then i got used to it. But it started almost again on plat . When u r too involved ... Now i m started upload of my 5 Go TSent run few minutes ago @work, and it s almost done lol !

First things first: congrats Shinobu for achieving success at one of the most difficult challenges in ME MP Since you already did it and the solo pros gave tips and tricks I'll just leave my last solo/duo story here: Last night my daughter managed to sub4h my sleep. She's a real newb (only 3 months life experience) and can't hold her own weight, so I had to carry her several waves. She used CRYo ammo 9000 with maximum ear-drum penetration. During the final objective wave my wife joined the mission. Objective was to disarm a dirty biohazard bomb. Guess what, it doesn't go faster if two people try to disarm at the same time! After postobjective cleanup (pun definitely intended) I Alt+F4ed my way out of this mess to try to get some sleep before lolwork. Hopefully I can get some Mass Effect at the weekend. I'll try some plat solo - can't be that hard...

Added a GPS sidearm to my GI/Talon to deal with on-host phantom shenanigans. Made it to wave 7 with 7/1/5/5 consumables left after wave 3 and 6 hacks... proceeded to get cocky.
Died at the end of wave 7 after ~24 minutes with just 2 pyros, a phantom and a bomber remaining, and me needing more fingers to count my mistakes on just that one wave.
Also, I'm still way too twitchy with ops packs. If I can get that issue solved it will really help my game.

Not to push you or anything (because only you know when the time is right) but knowing your skill level, I think you could solo Platinum now. I did respect to damage on Warp 4 since I was committed to using the kit for daily solos, but it only got me 75 more damage, so I didn't really notice a difference (except that I succeeded where before I failed). I have 3 respec cards and got another one immediately from a pack, so it didn't set me back much. I wound up speccing: Tech Armor 6 BAB Warp 6 ABA Overload 5 AA Passive 6 AAB (because I'm not good at headshots) Fitness 3 Rightly or wrongly I split TA/Fitness 6/3 instead of 4/4 because I felt like enemy damage on Plat increased more than my health/shields, so I preferred reducing their damage to increasing my health. Can someone with more head knowledge critique this build? I think if you are good at headshotting passive 5B would be useful.

Also, I'm still way too twitchy with ops packs. If I can get that issue solved it will really help my game. Good job getting through 2 hacks with so many consumables left! As for dying just when you think you have the wave in the bag, all I can say is: I know those feels, bro. For me waves 7 and 8 were the hardest. Eight especially just seems to go on forever. The good news is that waves 9 and 10 don't necessarily ramp up the difficulty, which is what I was afraid of. I habitually press ops when I break shield gate, which meant I initially used them up waaay too early (I'm used to having Survivor loadout on, which makes me cavalier about eating those things like candy.) Watching TTT snap into hard cover and skate in the red really inspired me to wait a second before ops pack usage. In my last attempt I didn't use any for the first 5 waves, then consumed all of them in waves 6-8, which got me over the hump. Also rage rocketing.

I don't know, maybe I should try this Plat Solo thing .... Man, you can do it as long as you can stay sharp for some extended period of time. It'll be longer than normal game and it'll be full of bs and various kinds of crap but IMHO, it is worth the effort. At least you can give it a few serious tries.

Can someone with more head knowledge critique this build? I think if you are good at headshotting passive 5B would be useful. IIRC, someone did the math long ago and a 4/4 split between TA/Fitness is better than a 6/3 (noticeably so). Also, you are using a kit without too much pure power damage (as opposed to say Phoenix Adept) and with the Arc Pistol, to boot. Headshot modifier (instead of some measly power damage bonus) is practically a must. Plus, when you notice how much faster stuff dies to headshots, you'll learn to do them more consistently. And last, since you are using Arc Pistol, shield-gate is not an issue, but if you were using something slower firing you might consider investing in lvl 6 Overload if it breaks certain shield/barrier thresholds.

So why can I score 277k with a level 9 KroGuard, carry 3 sub 100k pugs, through the Thunderdome on Platinum, and yet cannot solo to save my life? I am a scrub, all there is to it. As was said soloing is a bit different. Best soloing is a controlled aggressiveness very close to Zen. When goons in my face annoy me and want to show whos boss I never finish. When I take on 2 but fall back from 3 without second thought the solo is smooth.

This is, exactly how I feel. When you play aggressively in solo's and try to vary the gameplay by moving around (because in your mind you "feel" that you're camping) you overextend, get spawned on, surrounded and downed. And once you're downed, getting up can be stupidly frustrating. Nope, playing a "role" in a solo (of "not camping", of "being aggressive/boss", etc.) will kill you (and so frustrate you), just playing the game as it comes at you, relying on your skills, will see you through.

I think my issue with ops packs stems from being in the habit of trying to anticipate their need when playing off-host. Having a shiny corpse is only good for inducing rage-gelling, and neither of those should be problems in a solo.

Now I have used Arc Pistol, Carrier, Hurricane and N7 Crusader on TSent. For me , nothing came closer to N7 Crusader. I almost forgot that sniper/shorty is supreme op on host. You can make rag doll praetorian across the map. Now I think praetorian might be the most pathetic boss of them all. It rag dolls so frequently, it's amusing.

Feeling invigorated by Gold success, and also incredibly stressed from rigging the new movie... If you like Marvel, and you like large black cats, you are in for a treat at my body and brain's expense, but I digress... FUCK YOU GETH. MY BODY IS REGGIE!
