ugh, nearly had it. Got 2 escorts and a package drop, messed up an earlier wave and burned through a nice bit of my equipment in a panic/rage, fuckin' hunters.
Got swarmed in the 10th wave, was half-way through the escort, so so close.

Shinobu I'll try again tomorrow maybe, just need one more gold solo to get that lone wolf banner. Then I'll never have to try again.

That's the spirit! Soloing is not my thing either, so I can totally hear where you're coming from. But just think how great it's going to feel to finally beat that thing into submission! You can do it!

YEAH! Today just gets better and better! CONGRATULATIONS on your solo and your shiny new banner! I knew you would do it!

Attempt number three:

Same setup, fail on wave five once again, you guessed it, due to phantom sword to the gut. Got downed next to the phantom, couldn't properly evade. In all fairness, this was a catastrophe of a run. Was down to two gels and two ops pack by wave five. Followed doc's advice on warping phantoms when they land out of their flip. It's amazing how much faster and easier they go down that way. This will be useful knowledge in the future.

Time, 17:44. Down to 15 shotgun amps. Feeling a little disheartened by now. Keep on trucking, since I have nothing else to do but yeah, feels like I'm wasting my time a little.

Don't give up! You can do it! I didn't get to W6 until my 6th attempt. You just need to tweak your playstyle a little. Every time I failed I thought about what I was doing that led to my demise.

Why do you think they are getting to you? Some possibilities I can think of:

1) You play really in their faces, which gives you too little time to react
2) They sneak up on you
3) You kill them too quickly and they spawn behind you
4) You kill them too slowly and they overwhelm you

Possible solutions:
Hang back a bit to give yourself some more reaction time. I think this is hard with the Valkyrie because you are depending on AF/Warp booms to kill faster. You might consider taking a different kit that allows booms at a distance, like the Huntress, AA or Fury, or use an ammo type that you can detonate from range with warp, such as incendiary. Or change maps to give yourself different cover opportunities.

Geth scanner

Find a way to stagger them, either with weapons (Falcon, acolyte, or scorpion secondary since you are using the raider) or ammo (disruptor, incendiary), or work on your tech armor detonation skills. I switched to Falcon as my primary in the later game just because of phantoms and geth (but this only worked for me because I was using incendiary/overload spam at a distance).

Try to keep suppressing the spawns close to you as you kill (this is too difficult for me) or be very aware of where the closest spawn point is so that you don't get completely surprised. Kill phantoms one at a time so they spawn singly. Pretty much every time I killed a phantom I relocated so I wouldn't get pinched.

Retreat more so that they are less bunched up around you and you can take them on one or two at a time.

Change factions to get fewer phantoms (but this means Collectors).

Rage rocket. (Really not a good idea.)

I defer to the experienced soloers who know how the kit works to give better advice. Can you remind us of what setup you are using  (gear, ammo, etc)?

Don't let it bother you, I've done more plat solos than I can keep track of and I've had plenty of wave 1 or 2 fails. Heck, I've had runs where I scrubbed in under 2 minutes. Just gotta get back in the saddle. 

And if you think Reegar would be easier for you, then by all means use it: absolutely no shame whatsoever in using Reegar for your first plat solo. But if its phantoms that are giving you the most trouble, also may want to consider Venom: the ultimate anti-phantom gun. Or at least bring a Scorpion for the really phantom-intensive waves. Either way I'm sure you'll get there; if you can make it to plat wave 8, you can solo plat. Just need to keep at it (and believe it or not five attempts is actually not that terribly many).
