I started playing ME3MP again recently after a bit of a break, and I'm trying to psych myself up to give gold soloing another shot. Can't figure out what kit to go with tho. GI has helped me carry many a scrub, but I have concerns about its squishiness. Actually, really all the ones I'm most comfortable with are a bit on the squishy side. Also, have to figure out a map that plays to the strengths of whatever kit I ultimately use. There's a lot to think about/fret over.
But mostly, I'm worried Origin will tell me I've lost my connection to the game midway through the match.
Not much can be said about lolorgygin obviously. As far for the rest of it... I'm presuming that's your first gold solos you're gearing up for. The question is whether it's a for-tick-in-the-box or a matter of principle. If that's the former than the Reetard Kroguard/Geth/Glacier(White) is it. An hour (give or take) later, you're done. Might need a shower after that. However if it's the latter then suggest picking up your comfiest/favourite kit and the opposing faction and then head out in White's genreal direction. Park around the corner of win and just get on with it really. ima sure you won't have much issues clearing it out GI style. Good luck Keep us posted!
Sort of both, really; it's the last thing standing in the way of my BotB banner, and I also want to prove to myself that I can do it. Unfortunately, soloing makes all my weaknesses as a player starkly obvious (esp. when it comes to kiting and anticipating spawns), so it's a miracle I even managed it on the lower difficulties.
Thanks, I'll likely give it a try sometime this coming week. Watch this space for my inevitable raging at marauders/rocket troopers/whatever happens to cause the stress I will definitely experience.
was in a good shape and mood yesterday, but not really focused, still almost made it through my nemesis (claymore hsol thundadump). Was slow but clean, i had 5 gels on w9 and 35 min only thanks to good nukes. Phantoms wave with banshee ... aim sucks but i manage to run around quite well to find spots to hold for few shots. I almost finish a banshee, kite, decide to pause to finish her from up the outside stair, bad idea but it worked, run away along the normal kiting path, she respawns in the corridor and instantly grab me running (i was at least @ 3m)... filthy bitch, she usually jumps where i was when i run, not where i am ... I knew i had no place for BS in this run, but 5 gels w9 ... . And passing 7 and 8 without gels is a first i think

If you're confortable with a kit, give it a try, even if it's squishy. I'd argue that it's better to play a character you're used to than a character that's "easy".
As for the GI, a Cyclonic - or better yet, Shield Power Cells to counter the cloak stopping your shield regen - helps a lot to stay out of trouble. If you hold good positions (say, on Giant, the extraction and the starcase at the bottom of the map) and use right-hand advantage correctly you can kill a lot of stuff without being too worried about dying.
For the map, honestly I think the easiest ones when you're attempting a solo for the first time are Giant and Ghost. The first has two really good positions (the ones I mentioned before) to hold and decent routes to avoid enemies, the second gives you more space but it's harder to hold a good position for a long time - basically, it's more hit and run. And people who are new to solos tend to need a lot of breathing space, which is what those two maps are best for.
Easiest enemies are Reapers imo, unless you go for someone who doesn't want to be grabbed, then it's obviously Geth. Geth are probably the second easiest faction overall to gold solo anyway, if not the first.
Alright, one gold solo down, and on my first try! Javelin GI vs Reapers on White. I got really lucky a few times (darted past a banshee within grabbing range but didn't get grabbed, ran out of gels on wave 7 and ops packs on 9, finished my last wave 10 device objective just in time to nuke the three brutes coming at me from either side), so I feel like it was probably just a fluke, but now I just have one more solo to go and I'll be done!
Took longer than I'd liked, but considering it was about the same amount of time as my first silver solo, I guess I shouldn't complain.

I hadn't even considered Ghost, but it's probably my favorite map for sniping. I'll definitely consider it for my second solo, assuming I don't switch to a different kit after the hour-long nightmare I just put myself through.
And yeah, Reapers are a pretty easy time, for the most part. Banshees complicate things, though; not a fan of having to sprint wildly in the opposite direction when I'm in the middle of taking out mooks. Might give Geth a shot next time.
I dont like ghost much for solo myself, no good nuking starting point, cover bugs and corners of win more tricky than on white/glacier/giant. Might be a L2ghost on my side though And in my book reaper gold is far more demanding than geth gold, at least with geth scanner in the mix

Yeah Ghost really isn't the best for nukes in solo, the point is the map is good if you intend to spend some time running, which is usually what happens for solo beginners.
I almost never use corners because it's just bad (except in some rare situations like "sliding" on Giant's ramps during an escort), especially with right-hand advantage being a thing, so I wouldn't know about that.
As for Geth vs Reapers, it depends on the kit really. I'd say that anything that likes to camp favors Geth, most Adepts / Armor shredding kits like Krogan Soldier or flamers tend to perform better against Reapers. I personally find Reapers easier to fight because I fucking hate all the stunning effects on the Geth side, which can really mess you up in a ton of ways. But then again that's also because I really don't mind spend time running and repositionning in solos, which obviously is something you do more against Reapers with all the Banshees and Brutes.

Aaaand with one final solo (GI on White again, now vs Geth), it's done! Only managed to die once this time, and only because I was stupid about how I did the wave 6 devices. I think the bulk of my time was spent on just one wave (7 iirc). Not ideal, but to be fair, I've never claimed to be good at soloing anyway.

Well. Bloody. Done. Congrats mate. And yeah nah you might as well cut that nonsense about "not being good at solos". going after the lone wolf on own terms is always commendable. so. what's next? a Plat solo? or join up for some of themed challenge tortu- errr... fun- FUN i meant to say there. Fun. Good old fun and all

Thanks! Honestly pretty pleased I didn't have to switch to one of the easy mode kits. It's satisfying to have done it with one I actually like.
Not sure what's next. I've attained BotB finally, so I'm a bit aimless. I'll probably take a break from soloing for a while tho, maybe take the time to learn spawns and whatnot before coming back to it. There were a few players a while back who tried to teach me the importance of these things, but all I really took away from it at the time was something about wave budgets. And that's the story of how I never fully learned which waves have banshees, and so am forced to constantly anticipate them in every wave beyond 3, etc etc.

Congratulations, well done, Best of the Best! I knew you could do it! Only one death is really good. I bet you could solo Platinum now if you wanted, but don't feel pressured to decide on that any time soon. For now bask in the knowledge that you achieved your objective in style!
I just got midway through a solo that wasn't even meant to be a solo (got tired of looking for pugs and started a match in the hopes that someone would show up), and everything was going well, but I had the entirely new experience of realizing that I was... bored??? It just occurred to me suddenly that this wouldn't be a difficult match, just probably a long one. And I'm in the middle of doing laundry, so I didn't want it to drag on too much anyway.
I guess what I've learned from this is that a Justicar solo is probably somewhere in my future, because that was shaping up to be the smoothest soloing I've ever managed, on really any difficulty. Also, I managed to take out a marauder and two cannibals with one shot of the Wraith, which was one of my most satisfying recent gameplay moments.
ETA: It was U/U/G but wound up being Reapers on Ghost Hazard. Wave 3 was devices, which is the objective I get maybe 50% of the time in solos, ostensibly as punishment for that time when I said that devices were my favorite type of objective to do...
Gonna be difficult for me to be trolled this hard in a gold solo again:
Pfft. u just wait until you get on with the N7 challenge. and why are you still not btw, huh?? come join us or is it just me now? DistigousForest are you redditing again or what now
anyways, soon the moments like this
will be filling your dreams, and your channel bloopers reel. in no time at all. trust me on this. ....unless of course, you're one of them more serious lot and go cruise through the series over the weekend.

but where's fun in that i says
Looks interesting as well as a reason to learn more about speedruns. But next weekend? I was thinking maybe by the following weekend for sure.
Did manage to complete the Cerberus gold solo last night. I might have used four missiles in the last 30 seconds so there wouldn't be any sync kills at the end.
Gonna be difficult for me to be trolled this hard in a gold solo again:
Most important thing I´ve learned about this game is that nothing will stop Phantom synch kill. Even if you´ve lost connection to server Phantom can finish her synch kill. End of story.

I decided it would be a good idea to promote all my classes at once They are finally back to level 20 and I'm ready to try 7.2 again soon.
We used to be in love, but now we're just in like And we broke all our promises, and baby, that ain't right

L2 ops packs issue spotted.
You can either fight at my side or get crushed under my heel, but you will not stand in my way
i have been registering gold speedrun, and it gave ideas ... tried a few times with my beloved Vorcha Soldier, started with melee in mind, but it s too painfull 2 nice fails :
first one was going to be acceptable ! I hope i m now cured

She puts cheat mode DR as soon as u hit her too (providing she not in a melee already). So that if u overload her after one or 2 shot, u get less of it than with a single overload
didint xelander make a nice thread about phantoms stuff ?
It was a long response in a phantom thread, but it was on the old BSN, I have no idea if it was archived or not.
Regarding priming and detonating - hitscan priming/detoanting powers always work if she hasn't put the palm of denial up. If you use projectile powers - you need to prime her while she's flipping, otherwise she'll put the bubble up (so shoot her, preferably with a rapid fire gun, to trigger the evade animation). Because she gets extra DR while she's flipping - try to time your projectile detonator so it catches her right after landing, as muahmuah said. Naturally, if you miss the window, you get the bubble of denial.
Of course, if she's staggered you can do whatever the f*ck you want with her, which is why people here sing praises to lolVenom (and lolScorpion and lolAcolyte, etc., etc.). Personally, I enjoy Kishock the best. It staggers, it sends her flying across the map if you kill her with bodyshot, or I get to enjoy the sight of her lifeless corpse slumping down to the ground after a headshot. It's all about the style points, folks...
too bad we never backed that up, it would have been the reference on phantom behavior BS
