Because she won't be available in combat, for something happening during the start of the game. They said so when people asked if the other sibling will be a companion. 
There's a different between Hawke and Ryder. They were 'done' with Hawke so they could put that choice. The Ryder might be used in following games so they might decide to hold off killing them.

Anyone who manages to qualify to be a Pathfinder isn't going to be weak. Young, maybe a bit nervous about taking on the role at first, but not weak. And I doubt they'll be shy about doing the job. One article or other said that they're also part diplomat, so he's not totally going to be shy, either.  Maybe he's a little less secure around women, but it doesn't make him weak. And I doubt he'll really be afraid of them.  Just because he might be a bit quieter and more laid back does not make him a wimp.

Parshaara, a little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men...

I know. From what they said it just seems the other sibling might not be in a complete good condition and will stay ok either the Hyperion, the Nexus or the Tempest (I doubt the latter) in a non active role.

I've heard he's really embraced the fandom and had some funny back and forth with fans and Fryda on twitter, haven't gotten around to checking out his interviews yet. Still not finished all of Fryda's either, they're on my to-do list (or should that be, to-play list?)

Hey, come one now, there's no need for that  You may disagree, but Hanako is always civil and polite.

Everyone has a different sense of humour. I often get told to lighten up about things, too (for the record, I haven't watched the video, I'm just putting that out there).

My impression (could be wrong of course) is that "Heart" will be the opposite of "Head"; impulsive and/or emotional rather than calculating and logical. But that could overlap with empathy.

I'd love for both siblings to be able to be awkward about relationships if we play them that way. It'd be a nice change of pace.

Im pretty sure though that these are just some of the ways our Ryders might be able to be, and that they're just playing around, it's wonderful to know how much they value their work and that they are interested in the product they are in enough to do something like this!
