text chat in the lobby: sure, why not (was quite helpful once as the host wrote in the lobby: "guys I'm switching to plat" - after a very good and quick gold match and so we could switch kits if need be... there was some ninja-switching in ME3MP sometimes or at least I didn't pay too much attention to the difficulty setting and then I was like "Why are there Geth AND Reapers all of a sudden" ^^)
text chat in game? hell no
but I'm on PC ... and the so called mustard race seems to enjoy the silent treatment ... aka not talkative at all and I think that would be the case for text chat as well ...
so tl;dr: not really needed

I just wish for at least some taunts for the characters, so they can shout "come here!" or "stay out of there!" without the need for a full text chat in-game.
Text chat in the lobby is basic stuff that should be there for years now.

Lots of ways to get shared info before/during game Mic obviously; 3rd party stuff like Teamspeak, etc., and if no Mic at all, Skype or something similar on your cell phone if all else fails. The point is, and well pointed out by others; text would only be useful in the lobby, and at best a distraction in game, both for the texter and the textee. If you are taking time out to text during the game, you are either not contributing, or the game itself is terrible because you have the time to text during a supposedly fluid, fast moving game. If you don't want your voice heard, or are too shy, or too sensitive, or just wish to remain annonymous, then maybe a co-op MP isn't for you. Overwatch is PvP game that has a text chat available to talk both to your team or the whole match. Everyone uses it and the game remains perfectly fluid, fast moving as you put it yourself. A text chat would allow players to communicate effectively with each other wether or not they have a mic. Plus, some players aren't always there to listen to other players charming white noises as they like to listen to music for exemple. A text chat can only be a plus. Especially in a PvE game mode.

Was just about to write exactly that. Overwatch has a combat flow very similar to waves (team fight, retreat/re-engage, team fight) and there's more than enough time to get important messages out. Works even in high-tension modes like 3v3. And the worst part in my opinion - it's not that they don't want to implement text chat, they go out of their way to actively deny us this feature.

No. "A text chat can only be a plus." is patently not true. I can think of all sorts of situations where a team member should be doing something else other than trying to communicate by typing individual letters. It's all about efficiency of communication. Voice is vastly more efficient than text. Want an example? Try writing as fast as someone speaks. If you are not in a fluid, fast moving, changing, team-based combat environment, who cares? Text all you want. But if speed and efficiency of both movement and communication are important, voice. Speed is good, speed is life; typing to communicate is neither.

This is not a Competitive game (per say) so no, it is not necessarily about effiency but disponibility. If people can pull this off on a PvP game as frantic as Overwatch, I'm sure we can do it here.
And honestly, if the people you play with types individual letters during the game then perhaps you should play with me players that can type more than one letter at a time? I have a few in my friends list who can write an entire, gramatically correct sentence!

If I remember correctly you could use a few tweaks and have a text chat in ME3. Maybe it'll be the same for MEA?

I was actually kind of shocked that the PC version doesn't include a text chat, or a microphone/speaker indicator that lights up when someone is speaking.
But hey, you know....how about that FOV slider, folks?!

I'd love to see the option there with the proper ignore tools if they are toxic in and out of game. There are times its better to warn not to revive, or its too risky if its in an objective wave and you go down to this or that. Or even just get caught in that darned kett/khett orb.
Options like these help make the game better overall. Yes, sometimes you will get a bad fellow. It happens sometimes in a match, but with the proper ignore tools bundled with chat. It will be one click ignore and they don't bother you. And both parties can go their own way after. Yes, it can be a downside without the right filtering, but with, its co-op multiplayer, anything that helps with community interaction and improving the game has the potential to be good.
