I finally landed on Lorek. Sure, once you watch a utube video it becomes so obvious how it works...
It was overall about tidying up sidequests. I went to see My good man Anderson, picked up few odds and ends for the crew, and loaded up on the next batch of quests.
I feel that the number of companions is a bit excessive, but so far all of them were interesting. I have a couple of their personal quests to see to now and three more to recruit.
And still playing with Solas and Garrus, because I like 'em.
I should try to play a bit more though, as I really want to finish the Trilogy before i do the stupid, and play a MMO's CBT in Oct.

Rachni everywhere. Miriam Shepard, Kaidan and Wrex wish they'd packed some bugspray.
It started during a routine survey of the Styx Theta star cluster. Exploring the planet Altahe, the squad happened upon a building surrounded by strange craters. Approaching the craters revealed the horrible truth: rachni nests. The building turned out to be a classified Alliance listening post that had been overrun by rachni shortly after the arrival of a consignment of supplies. None of the Alliance staff on Altahe had survived; furthermore, a recording of a distress call from the nearby planet Nepmos indicated that the listening post there was under similar pressure.
Shepard ordered Joker to make best possible speed to Nepmos. Going planetside, the squad found the remnant of an Alliance platoon vainly attempting to repulse wave after wave of rachni soldiers. Lending her squad and the Mako to the effort, Shepard helped to eliminate the rachni vanguard, then took Wrex and Kaidan to the abandoned mine where the bulk of the rachni forces were holed up. There seemed to be no end to the rachni forces; and underground, in close quarters, their acid proved to be a terrifyingly effective weapon. Shepard dipped into her stock of grenades and medi-gel to subdue the rachni and keep her comrades on their feet.
(As one-shot minor NPCs go, I did like the Alliance officer here, Lt Marie Durand. Shame she didn't reappear in ME2 or ME3. I wonder if she survived the Reaper war? Doubt she'd have enjoyed facing off against Ravagers. Speaking of Ravagers, I'm really seeing the resemblance to the rachni soldiers now. They're about the same size, and there's that acidic goo they leave behind).
It transpired that the Alliance bases on Altahe and Nepmos had been supplied by a ship from a depot in the Argos Rho cluster. On arrival, Shepard found the depot devoid of all human life, but crawling with yet more rachni. Wearily fighting her way through the bugs to the command centre, Shepard accessed the logs and discovered that the depot was a Cerberus front. The rachni had been hatched close to the queen in a failed attempt to produce controllable weapons.
Miriam Shepard returned to the Normandy somewhat disturbed. It appears that Cerberus is like an iceberg, mostly unseen beneath the surface, much bigger than it had at first appeared. It's not a question of if she'll encounter them again, but when; and what horrors will she uncover when she does?

Jenna got to go to a fancy party hosted by a man with a dubious accent. She was invited by her newest friend, Kasumi the perky japanese cat burgler, and as Mr Hock wasn't a very nice man, and had murdered Kasumi's boyfriend, Jenna and Kasumi robbed him blind.

ME1 Final Thoughts. It's in spoiler tags for size. Gameplay: I'd give a 7/10. The combat was more enjoyable than I remember and the squad makeup is nicely balanced. However, the poor controls knock off some points, along with the inventory system. I enjoy equipping party members, but there was just so much...shit. Just crap gear that was vendor trash or fit as omni-gel. Give me money over that any day. Inventory management was a pain in the ass. The controls are a little wonky and the Mako is...the Mako. I love and hate that thing.
Story: 9/10. I love love love the lore building and the character development. I also thought the BDtS was probably one of the best DLCs in the trilogy. I don't mind Shepard sounding a little thickheaded at times. It allowed me to learn more. There is also a lot more foreshadowing in ME1 than I realized.
Graphics: Given the age, 7.5/10. They have held up very well. However, there was some bad lag in combat and the eyes have the creepy 'thousand yard stare' look. The backgrounds were amazing and each planet felt like it had some of it's own character. The game is 8 years old, so that's not too shabby.
Sound:8/10. I enjoy each area of the Citadel having it's own music. The one at the Markets on the Upper Wards is my favorite there. The exploration music for the Mako was nicely upbeat and made me feel ready to go. There was a real Blade Runnner/Alien vibe to the music that became more and more rare in later games. When most of that simpler electronic music was largely replaced by orchestral tracks, I think that ME lost a bit of it's identity.
Overall: 8/10. I was told I could skip ME1, but I'm honestly glad I did. It's not the greatest game and the controls are pretty awkward. Yet the lore building and the overall tone of the game makes it completely worthwhile. There is also the potential (small) War Assets gains that will show in ME3, so that's nice too. Next time! ME2 and The Return of the Living Shepard. I've gotten some of it started. I was too tired to post last night. --Tried to recreate my character so I could change her hair. --Got off the damn station. --Giggled at seeing the Kestrel armor again. Worth the real world cash. --Then sighed at the clothing selection. I miss having all of the clothes unlocked. --Checked out Freedom's Progress. --Sent Veetor back with Tali. --Restarted because my recreation of Shepard looked cross-eyed and used my imported face. --Grabbed Zaheed. --Grabbed Mordin, saved his assistant and the sick bartarian. --Did all of the planet scanning for that system. --Renegade interupt on the gunship mechanic. --Got Garrus, died a couple of times. I hate those damn vorcha pyro masters. --Did yet more planet scanning. Gods I haven't missed that. --Grabbed Kasumi. --Listened to all of the Galactic News. Interesting little tidbits of info there. --Became a Specter again. Zaeed is the perfect person to be around for that. --Saved inside the prison before I went to bed. Getting ready to find Jack.

Shawna Shepard on Noveria: 1. Helped Dr. Cohen create a cure. Got ambushed by Asari commandos and Gethl killed them all. Complained about it to Cohen and Ventralis.
2. Went down to the Hot Labs. Initiated the neutron purge. Killed attacking Rachni. Got in the elevator with a minute left to spare.
3. Got attacked by Ventralis and his men by orders from Benezia. Killed everyone in the station with extreme prejudice.
4. Finally made it to Benezia. She monologued, I yawned. She had her Asari commandos and Geth attack, I shot them all dead. She gave me the location of the Mu Relay, then attacked again because Indoctrination. I put her down for good.
5. The Rachni Queen wanted to live. I disagreed. Like I told Tartovsky in the Hot Labs: "If by 'resolve the situation' you mean 'kill every bug I see', then sure.' The situation was now resolved.
6. Some Asari person wanted me to help her spy on some other guy and she gave me a device. I gave the guy the device. The Asari person gave me credits. The Asari person is apparently blind and/or stupid.
7. Sold some equipment to the Normandy Requisitions Officer, then bought a sweet HMWSR VII. Now all all my useable weapons are Spectre weapons Infiltrator's arsenal (Pistol, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle). Also managed to max out the Sniper Rifles talent tree on Noveria; only need 8 more points to max out Shotguns to have all my weapon talents maxed out.

Jonathan Shepard:
1. Crossed the pedway and encountered a lot of dead people who suffocated when Cerberus opened the airlocks.
2. Awkward conversation with Kaidan when he practically accused me of being a husk - or at least brought back with the same technology. The bad thing is that I don't actually know the truth about the Lazarus Project so it's hard to deny anything other than that my feelings got hurt.

Daily log of events! --Got Jack. Took Garrus and Zaeed with me. They are a good combination and Zaeed has some good commentary. --Picked up Grunt. Mordin and Jack were my combo. Shockwave, how I have missed thee. --Did more planet scanning. My left finger is officially starting to hurt from holding down the L2 button. I'm not doing anymore until I need the materials for upgrades. Thankfully, I've got a good stockpile of stuff. --Turned in the quest for Ken and Gabby (the enigneers) as well as the quest for the ship's cook. Janitor. Who almost never forgets to wash his hands. --Let myself down on a story level. I did Horizon, and my party makeup is good for balance. I took Jack and Mordin with me. The problem is that Mordin's quiet confusion at Kaidan's reaction is no subsitute for Garrus' response. This was a double screw up, since I'm doing Kaidan's romance. --In my head, Shepard finally got the point. She knows she was dead for two years, but there hadn't been a ton of change. Horizon brought it all home, so I took her to the Normandy crash site. Normally I place the monument near the Galaxy Map, but this time I did it next to the Armory. Shep's feeling more than a bit of survivor's guilt and did that to mark a grave of sorts for Ashley. Next time! --Getting drunk with Chakwas. Shep could use a drink. Or three. --Jack's loyalty mission. Gimmie Warp Ammo. --Jacob's loyalty mission. --Excitement and blue skin at Illum. With my favorite NPC just around the corner...

I'm not going to lie. If I'm just trying to get through ME1 as quick as possible, while also doing side quests, Benzeia can sound extremely melodramatic. Her, "Goodnight Little Wing," speech (if you take Liara) can sound particularly corny.
It's been awhile since I've played, so I enjoyed it this time around. Sometimes I'm into it, and sometimes I'm drumming my fingers waiting for her to stop interrupting battle. Depends upon my mood and the mindset of my Shepard.

Noveria is my favourite mission in the trilogy, but Benezia's VA did a pretty bad job, and the writing didn't help either.

In this case, I don't blame the VA. That's actually Marina Sirtis. She's the actress that played Deanna Troi in TNG. I know she's a lot better than that. I blame the VA director for instructing her to speak her lines that way.
Oh well. In every RPG, no matter the company, a little cringe-worthy voice acting must fall.

The line she says is bad. Have you seen an asari commando unit before? Few humans have. Yeah whatever. Too bad Shepard couldn't say to her. Have you ever seen a human spectre before? Few asari have.

No doubt. It was cheesy when Benezia said it. It was outright funny when Liara says it in ME2. Liara is a character that I'm okay with. She's usually a "little sister" to my Shepards. However, take Liara's rather girly voice with that line and it's really bad. At least Benezia had more of an alto voice. She made it a little bit easier to deal with. My least favorite is, "I can feel his fingers on my spine! His teeth on my ear!" Even when I'm into the scene, I always flinch at that line. I have to wonder why the hell the VA director had her say that line in such a way. She went from a villain that was I taking mostly seriously to a kid in a high school play. The fact that she interrupts the battle four times makes it worse. The pacing of the scene sucks. She interrupts the fight three times so the game can show her getting weaker. Then you have her brief conversation as herself. Then she says a death speech when she finally gives up. Heaven help you if you fail during the fight at any point and get to go through that all over again.

What makes Benezia interesting to me isn't her, but Liara over time really. By ME3, I feel like the game is pushing me to be Saren 2.0, complete with Asari sidekick + Geth and Krogan armies. In my headcanon, my Shep is trying to fight it back.. trying to find things to ground himself in. It's why he's such a miserable bastard without his ME2 buddies. All he has Javik to keep him company.
But anyways, just running through the Citadel on this new ME1 run. This should be awhile.

Jonathan Shepard:
1. Got to the Prothean Archives on Mars. The Illusive Man was already there. He told me to stay out of it. He's got some crazy scheme to control the Reapers. I'm not sure where he get his ideas because Liara said the Prothean device had immense destructive power. Maybe he thinks it can use indoctrination techniques against them? 2. Liara found out the data was being erased. Kaidan found a woman - Dr. Eva Core - responsible for it. I chased her to a shuttle. She seemed to be getting away until James showed up with the Normandy's shuttle and knocked her out of the sky. Despite her shuttle being on fire, Core emerged. She was an android. She attacked Kaidan and almost killed him before I took her down.
3. Went to the Citadel. I visited Kaidan in the hospital. He's still unconscious but Dr. Michel said he'll be okay. Also ran into Dr. Chakwas and convinced her to rejoin the Normandy.
4. Went to the Council with Liara to ask for help. They refused. They didn't even want any part of building the Prothean device, which we're now calling the Crucible. Idiots. It's a surprise the galaxy hasn't gone up in smoke before now. I guess maybe not all Council's were so inept.
5. The Turian Councilor Sparatus, who previously believed the Reapers were only a myth manufactured by Saren, met with me privately. He said if I could rescue the Turian primarch that it would go a long way to getting the cooperation I need. Ridiculous but I don't have any choice.
6. Brought reporter Diana Allers on board the Normandy. I don't like the idea but if she can tell stories that get people lining up to join the Alliance then it will be worth it.
7. Ran into Khalisah al-Jilani again. She accused me and the Alliance of abandoning Earth. I convinced her I was going to stop the Reapers no matter what the cost and that she should keep the pressure on the Council not to forget about Earth. Maybe he stories can help.
8. With Liara and James, acquired some Reaper tech from a Cerberus base on Sanctum. Weird looking stuff.
9. Landed on Palaven and repaired a comm tower. Came across my old pal Garrus Vakarian.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad option. These people were probably all indoctrinated or otherwise under the control of Benezia. I don't see that is particularly a Renegade option, though I don't know how the game perceives it.

Jonathan Shepard:
1. Found General/Primarch Victus and brought him aboard the Normandy.
2. After a power drop on the Normandy, I fought that EDI had transferred part of her mind into Dr. Eva Core's mech body.
3. Visited Kaidan at Huerta Memorial - gave him a bottle of whiskey. Thane was also checked in and we had a chance to catch up.
4. Spoke to Aria T'Loak, who is spending her time in Purgatory since Cerberus ousted her from Omega. Offered me a way to get the Blue Suns, the Blood Pack and Eclipse to fight in the war.
5. Returned the Banner of the First Regiment to the turians. Gave some non-human medi-gel to a doctor at Huerta.

On holiday on Dantooine. This whole "vengeance on the Jedi" thing gets very tiring after a while.

If you go direct to the hot labs before dealing with Benezia, then Ventralis and his men will turn hostile. I did it that way for the first time on my insanity run. Had no idea what I was in for. Oopsie.
I don't necessarily think it's a bad option. These people were probably all indoctrinated or otherwise under the control of Benezia. I don't see that is particularly a Renegade option, though I don't know how the game perceives it. Also, you get more XP. And if you look at it, all the civilians disappear when you take that option. Where did they go? There's only one conclusion...

Hello there, journal #5. I am happy! Garrus is back, alive and well. When we headed to Menae, I thought about him a lot, seeing how Palaven burned. Just... he wasn't on Palaven, thank god. He was right there with General Corinthus. Garrus joined our team, and we also got the primarch out of there (a new one, since the old one unfortunately had already died when we arrived). Garrus and I caught up a bit after returning to the Normandy, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us, once this Reaper war is over. Which I hope is soon. We are making some progress with rallying the races. There's a summit to be held soon, but Sam made me aware of a situation at Grissom Academy. It was good we arrived when we did, because Cerberus tried to take the students there away. Not soon in we met Jack. She looks healthy, and she's a teacher now... I'm glad she found something nice in her life. We were able to evacuate the students and Kahlee Sanders, a friend of Anderson. Before heading to Grissom we also stocked up on some things on the Citadel, and there I met Thane (poor guy likely doesn't have much time left...), Kasumi, and I visited Ashley. She got an offer from Udina to become a Spectre. I hope she says Yes, it's a great chance for her. She said she trusts me again, and I'm glad. Things were pretty bumpy between us ever since she shot Wrex on Virmire and when we met on Horizon. Nothing's been good between us ever since, but I have hope now. Our next stop before the summit will be Eden Prime, picking up an artifact. It's been a long time since I was there, and lots of bad memories are tied to it, so I hope it goes better this time. See you in a bit. Pics: I have now upgraded the Eviscerator shotgun (I used it during ME2 already) and picked the weight bonus so I can carry a Sniper Rifle too and still be a little over 100% with the cooldown I'm looking forward to try out the shotgun in ME3 again. Hopefully it's equally fun as in ME2!

Judging by some of the responses to my last post, I am going to have to be more careful when writing in the first person.
Shawna Shepard: 1. Did a lot of shopping. Got all grenade upgrades, which was good because next...
2. ... she went to Feros.
3. Saved the colony from a Geth attack. Cleared out all Geth from a tower.
4. Went into the tunnels below the colony. Cleared out all Geth from the tunnels. Met a strange man. Destroyed a Geth transmitter and some Krogan guarding it. Killed some Varren and recovered some fuel cells. Reconnected the colony's water supply.
5. Took an elevator to the skyway. Watched a Geth dropship drop off some Geth and then park on the side of building. Killed all Geth on the skyway on route to the building. Met some more survivors along the way.
6. Made it to the building. Ran into another survivor named Elizabeth. Killed some more Varren, more Geth, and some Krogan. Recovered some data for a guy. Discovered a mind-controlling plant called the Thorian lived beneath the colony. Knocked the ugly Geth ship off the building.
7. Started back to the colony where the colonists were going crazy. Dropped off Elizabeth, and killed some pencil-pusher named Jeong who was being an idiot. Made it back to the colony.
8. The Thorian had created zombie creatures called Creepers, and also caused the colonists to turn hostile. Told the squadmates to not attack the colonists. Killed the colonists anyway.
9. Went underground to deal with the Thorian. It did not want to negotiate. Killed more Creepers, a few Asari clones, then sent the Thorian tumbling down a pit. Who knew that plants could scream?
10. Met an Asari named Shiala. Shiala gave Shawna the Cipher: the ability understand the Protheans and by extension the vision from the beacon. Put a bullet into the back of Shiala's head.
