EA/Bioware is making a BIG mistake not putting ME:A on Steam. sure Valve asks for a 30% cut but that 30% they get is put to good use in the form of advertising the crap out of the product. In short EA could make A LOT more money if they put all their games on Steam or GoG. Didn't EA observe/analyze what CDPR did with Witcher 3. they put it on steam and or GoG and made a crap ton money. PS. to any of you Bioware devs/ EA execs if you did not take notice/watch what CDPR was doing with Witcher 3 then you should because they are making money without compromising their principles. my philosophy is making money is good but don't do it at the expense of making your customers angry. CDPR made money and did the right thing so you should learn from them too.

The amount of people who complain about games not being on Steam is far less than the benefits of being Steam exclusive for someone like EA; the vast majority of PC gamers are like me and ultimately couldn't care less if a game is on Steam, Origin, GoG, or simply exists as an exe downloaded from the website. Even if the nuisance of having to deal with yet another client is there, the "no steam, no sale" people are clearly in a minority.
CDPR made a bunch of money with The Witcher because it's a good game with a good story that people enjoy, not because it was on Steam. The game being on multiple marketplaces and DRM free was just a bonus. The game could've been Origin exclusive and people still would've bought it in droves.

I'm not sure what this poll is really trying to ask. I imagine whether or not it is on steam is irrelevant to most people reading this. They may have a preference but it won't stop them purchasing the game. If anything Steam will help sell through advertising to people who haven't heard about the game, but that doesn't apply to anyone here. I think what you are really asking is...
"Who will not purchase MA:A unless it is on steam?" 1) I will purchase anyway 2) I will not purchase anyway 3) I will only purchase on Steam.

I'm fairly certain that EA has looked at the industry and knows best what will make them the most money. They have entire teams of people to analyze the market and determine how to make the most money. You can be assured that if being on Steam would make them a lot more money then they would be on Steam.

If it were available on Steam or GOG - equivalent pricing/bonuses etcetera - I'd probably buy it on either instead of Origin, but its being Origin exclusive isn't anywhere near a deal breaker. Origin's fine. It's not as convenient as Steam - not talking UI or whatever; just having all my games available in the same place without workarounds is nice, and Steam's the oldest and most comprehensive marketplace - nor does it come with cool bonuses - DRM free, vouchers to account for some currency differences - like GoG, but it's still perfectly serviceable, and I'd never deny myself a game just to avoid using it.

EA would have to make sure everything was released. The reason I switched over to Origin when I purchased ME1-2 on Steam? There were certain DLC that could only be found on Origin. Also, having to manually log into ME2 was a terrible thing. Using Origin, it happens automatically.
I'm not sure I think Steam will improve much for ME:A. I think if advertising directs people to Origin, people will go to Origin where they might then find other Origin-exclusive games. Sounds like a win-win for EA.

Steam and GoG imo are more trustworthy than EA. I'd rather invest with Valve and GoG rather EA if you ask me. One thing Valve gets and EA doesn't is that Customers are also investors and shareholders too!

But for multinational publicly-traded companies bent on good steady profit, analytics and calculated risks are more important than putting themselves out there and taking big risks. Again, they have teams of people analyzing how to get the most bang for their buck. Guaranteed they have looked at selling their games on Steam and have decided that the risk is not worth the reward. The number of gamers who will only buy their games on steam and will choose not to play Mass Effect: Andromeda because it is on Origin instead of Steam is probably very low. They know those numbers. The Witcher 3 was advertised and hyped so much and received so many accolades that it didn't matter at all what platform it came out on, it was going to sell huge. If it had only been available on the Wii U you can guarantee that the Wii U sales would have skyrocketed. The Witcher 3 sold well because of what it was, not where it was sold.

GOG is always my first choice. DRM free baby. I'll never understand EA's decision to not play with Valve. They sure as hell can't compete with Steam in digital distribution. No one can.

I really rather despise Origin, and I would in fact pay more to buy MEA on Steam than I would on Origin. I never go shopping on Origin for games I _might_ play, so they are never going to get that revenue from me like Valve does for all the stuff I just find through Steam. And if I have a choice of where to buy I would definitely choose Steam or GOG (I find Steam more convenient, but I support what GOG and CD Project are doing with it, so like to support them when I can.)
All that being said, since EA buys up really good developers like Bioware, they leave me little choice but to live with their wretched distribution platform. I'll buy a physical copy somewhere so I can display the empty box on my wall of gaming history and then watch while it launches Origin and downloads (slowly). And I'll suffer through because, duh, its Mass Effect.
And they are counting on that from us PC gamers. I'd be interested in the source of your intel, because I didn't think Valve's cut was as high as 30%, but either way I'm sure EA is making more money on this specific product by keeping it Origin exclusive. The fact that it continues to earn them points in the "worst company in America" contest doesn't seem to even register on their relevance meter.

in my experience it's better off to try and fail then walk away and do nothing at all They did that. ME1 and ME2 were both on Steam. ME3 was Origin exclusive. If the next ME game is also Origin exclusive (as it is) then it suggests it was more profitable to be so. Therefore, they can say they tried using Steam and found the sticking to Origin made them more money.
