I hoped they wouldn't play this nostalgia angle too much, and the worst part is that I just know fans will gush all over it and think it's amazing that BioWare didn't have the creativity to think up a new character instead of referencing Ashley. This is the kind of BS that happened to Ace Attorney which used to be my second-favorite series for a while and ironically that was also after the trilogy was done. Just stop doing this shit writers out in the world. Please. Don't start passing the torch to fans who then bastardize your work with fanfiction-level writing. While I agree on the reference part, her personality is still not like Ashley.

While I agree on the reference part, her personality is still not like Ashley. Thus far, I agree but that email was so disappointing though. She's probably my favorite squadmate all things considered because I feel like she's the only character so far that has dialogue that doesn't feel... strangely disjointed or meandering. With Liam, Vetra, Gil etc. they just didn't really give off a good first impression. I know Luke Kristjanson is still in DA:I mode but I'm just not ready to sit down and chill with Liam over some beers right after I get on my ship. I thought we were in the middle of something important :/

I think that's more of a responsibility of the lead writer to make sure the squadmates dialogues fit with the moment in the story they're in.

Exhausted my trial just now. I got a mail from a reporter who wanted to interview me hardball questions on the Nexus next time I got there. I got there and it reminded me a lot of Kalisah Bint-Sinan Al-Jilani. Met Drack who seems like Wrex. Met PeeBee who is an archeologist who is studying the Remnant. I received a mail from Cora where she tells me it's okay to relax and stuff. Then, a poem verse. Why is everybody in this game just Mass Effect 1, 2.0 characters? Oh and just so you know, the main antagonistic threat that is bigger than individuals in this game is "Dark Energy". Mac or Schlerf are just ripping off every possible thing they could from the OT and Drew's work and it's by design. Until I read this it never quit clicked, but I did sorta get a Star Wars-y type feel. Everything in the new is "different" enough to be "new" but close enough to the old to be really familiar.

Its sort of a good small thing that represents the larger game as a whole though. A sort of lazy/rushed-ness to it. Like a rough draft that of a script that never got went over again. Or a rough edit of a film. From the way they seemed to not going over and fix up small animation issues, to charatcer designs, to some weird pacing in the writing/dialogue, to combat bugs, etc.

Maybe not, but I guess common sense would tell them why we loved it so much, considering it was the entire reason they said they made it to begin with. Well, as someone who didn't really love Citadel himself -- I didn't have any problems with the game in the first place, so to the extent Citadel was supposed to fix something it went right past me -- I'm really not qualified to talk about this. It was made with the express purpose, of giving the fans a chance to emotionally say goodbye, because the main game denied us that. It was hammy, and ridiculous, and cliche, and drowning in cringe and fan service. It was a weird situation where it's basically breaking the 4th wall in a lot of ways, but at that point, fans didn't care, because they were too emotional about everything and wanted to just enjoy this One Last Ride. The problem arises here, because Bioware obviously believes we loved it because of all the cringe and cliche and ham, and we did in part, but not because we like those things. In any other situation, that DLC would have been nuked from orbit for being horribly written. Citadel was a style of DLC that could've only come out right when it did, really imo. Fans felt they needed something, anything, to get that emotional closure that many people felt was not given to them. Obviously, despite Bioware making it for the right reasons, has failed entirely to understand why it was so popular, and why we gave a pass to all that horrible, horrible cheese.

I'm just going to play the MP / SP (afterthought) and disregard the absurd nuts and fruitcakes they think to add / change to the original lore of MET.

I didn't read anything specific, just the discussion on a thread, but are you sure they prefer male and gender pronoun? It seems they went back to their original thought on Liara not being truly 'female' then . Joking aside, they did sometimes use male pronoun before, like the father thing. Although I don't see the reason to change/expand (depending on your views) on that. On a different tone, it seems streaming of the game generated more positive views on the latter part of the game, at least in terms of story and scenes being better executed.

I played trial single player for about an hour. I hope it gets better later on but so far, it is so silly, just unbelievable. And these animations, I don't even know where these $40 million production costs went. The multiplayer is great though apart from occasional connection issues.

It got trashed several time in the trilogy already. Every IP adds more stuff, although Bioware often decides to go in a way that causes retcon. But it's not something new. Same goes for believing they'd go past the humanity Is special trope

Silly animations, undoubtul, but more and more patches are coming in. I'd laugh though if the latter parts of the game are supposed to have less animations problems (they won't). It'd make the decision of going for the early access really dumb.

The point is the asari would have no use for different pronouns within their species because they are mono-gendered. I just like some consistency is all *shrug*.

I know the file. I don't want to watch and hear more then I saw for now. If they say they prefer the other two compared to the female pronoun, it's pretty weird. The latter should be dominant in any case. They'd have used mother then. I think it was intentional, regardless of the reason. Although I think it's a term they started using when they came in contact with the other species with two genders.

Same might be for the other male and gender neutral terms. Or does the audio say it's something they thought about before? The audio I linked was very brief, like a sentence long codex entry. I can understand the "father/mother" thing as a shorter way for them to say "Person who gives birth to the child/person who's code of DNA was used to randomize offspring's DNA". Those terms describe the role in the creation of an asari child. However some asari describing themselves as a different gender from the rest the asari goes against what they are, mono-gendered. So I dunno, maybe MEA will act like a soft reboot for the Asari also.

After playing the trial for about six hours I'm finding ME:A to be a lot like fast food: more or less (emphasis on the less) palatable in the moment. Then I exit the game and feel disappointed after thinking about it for two seconds.

No ground vehicles to keep the world's from feeling alive with colonists. Every vehicle is just parked as a scenery prop.

I don't get why people are burying their heads in the sand, totally in denial. DA2 negativity affected the sales, the only reason is wasn't a loss for EA was because the devs worked in under an year. MEA had 5.
If this affects the sales enough, it could probably be the end of ME.
Friendly reminder that they've killed Dead Space, Crysis (I think) and the Mirror's Edge reboot probably will be the last one as well.
