I dont find the scanner that annoying to be honest. If its like in Metroid Prime, i welcome the addition actually, as long as theres intresting things to scan that is, like new animals or plants, or alien art. i think they already said a lot of the codex entries come through scanning. Im surprised they didnt have one in ME1, but then again thsoe barren wastes had nothing to scan. One skull i remember on some random planet but thats all. If youre exploring youre going to need a tricorder, its standard scifi stuff. And apparently they ahd conversation during that mission but they edited them out. cause of spoilers and all. Personally it would have been nice to see some. Only damn conversation ive still seen is that infamous Kadara one with Sloane Kelly. It depends on how often we have to do it, and how long it takes. My immediate assumption is that it's the new "Search" function, and I already felt like Inquisition leaned on that a little too heavily. The upside to Inquisition, however, is that it was instant, and it didn't slow down your movement speed like the scanner seems to . Hopefully Bioware reworked how the scanner functions. If it really is for the same purpose, I think it could get extremely old extremely quickly. I don't dislike the existence of a scanner, I just feel skeptical about how it's implemented. It could very easily be there just to add an extra step to simple tasks, or to be some form of supplementing gameplay to make it feel more varied than it really is. That's good to know, though. I was worried about the lack of a dialogue wheel during that whole ordeal. The scanner has been demonstrably awful, it takes like 5 seconds to give you info on each object, that's a whole lot of time doing nothing within a repetitive loop. even watching the 17 minute gameplay I skipped past parts of it because it got old fast.

Anyone else more skeptical/sad that this may be the last really good Mass Effect game? Or just Skeptical that EA's enforced deadline policies may have cut some of the quality/mechanics of the game? I think EA is the only reason I'm nervous for the game.

So is PeeBee now the Sera of ME:A? BioWare REALLY needs to stop trying to write these "quirky" characters because they end up so annoying you want to give them a Virmire suntan.

I've been through a major company acquisition, and slowly watched people leave or get let go. Most of the time, it wasn't good reasons. I don't think it's necessarily the evil/ terrible doing of EA, it's more to do with the big corporate culture clashing with the small creative culture.

"You look good Shepard. Maybe a little soft around the edges. How're you holding up since being relieved from duty?" "It's not so bad once you get used to the hot food and soft beds." "How do we stop them?" "We fight or we die!" "You can't help me" *SAD MUSIC* Tryhard: The game You and I can agree on one thing, ME3 was crap. It does have some redeeming qualities, the MP being the best part ironically, but the game was a betrayal in so many aspects. Which is why I think ME:A is practically a lock in for being better than ME3. Low bar or not, that's definitely a good thing. The problem with ME3 isn't that it's "crap", well, it is to me, but it's that it's just good enough and it was designed by not aiming higher than that:

I think EA is the only reason I'm nervous for the game. Still not convinced EA is as terrible as everyone says. They're great to their employees, they're not evil, but they are bad for gaming as an "art form". The people that run EA are ultimately doing it for the business. It is a publisher, but you can see the anti-art-ness of EA all over its marketing and how much that marketing tinkers with games. EA is just as bad as any other publisher that isn't Sony though. Look at what Bungie became with Destiny after signing that 10-year contract with Activision (which is also part of Blizzard). It's just corporations. They're bad. When BioWare wasn't owned by EA they still had to find publishers but could do so at their leisure (that is Greg and Ray's) rather than having EA looking over their shoulder from the start of any project, incorporating bad marketing ideas that end up actually changing the game's focus. They also didn't focus test their shit. But on the flipside, BioWare was bound to be too big for their own good regardless of EA; they just sped the process like tenfold. If you look at CDPR, there's a non-giant company that is already showing they're pretty desperate to become bigger, or maybe it's the publishing deals. The CDPR that made Witcher 2 under Bandai Namco's publishing for PC only is a vastly different CDPR than the one that made Witcher 3 under Warner Bros. publishing, like, look at their marketing. You can tell much more was spent on it for TW3 and the game's appeal was also streamlined heavily by going the Skyrim-route. Lucky thing though that they ended up making a masterpiece regardless.

The game has been in development for five years. That's longer than DAI and TW3 and both of those had delays. If Bioware can't finish the game in that timeframe then that's on them, not EA.

If they hire me I'm going to have them do this game all over again. Marketing doesn't have this kind of power. They ain't shit then.

Look at the clearly unfinished on release ME3. Everyone blaming EA for everything, but failing to look at the actual developer of the game who basically fucked it up. Amazon paying refunds on a clearly unfinished product, but I bet Bioware fanboys don't remember that one.

We really need to break away from the use of the term "fanboy", or anything relating to it.
It makes this thread look like a giant, cynical, circlejerk.
Not to mention the fact that it has nothing to do with skepticism towards Andromeda. Further enhancing the circlejerk effect.

Well, of course, as long as there is no new information, the same criticisms will be repeated over and over... that's not really a circlejerk.

Fanboys exist. Period. If you're continually gushing over anything as long as it says "Mass Effect", even if it were a pair of stylized diapers, you're a fanboy and not just a fan.
