Mass Effect Andromeda Skepticism thread

It's fucking lazy to use fanmade stuff when they literally should be able to go into their own archives, load up ME3 in UE3, take Liara's model, put another clothing skin on her, pose her and make a better shot. Taking something off Deviantart just reeks of unprofessionalism IMO. It's another sign that BioWare is just slouching through making this game and not giving it a 110%. Create magic for us, don't just make it passable.

Eh, I doubt they worked with the person. But now they have to credit the artist anyway. It's just a detail, but I'm surprised they're still doing this when other devs simply take the time to create their own art. 

I read on the twitter thread that the fanart was taken from a shot of Liara in the citadel dlc. I haven't played it, so I don't know, can someone answer to it?

Looks like Liara in her casino dress. So it's very possible the shot was taken from there in both cases.

I dunno, I -cough- usually take Wrex or Garrus to the casino.

The question remains wether Bioware contacted him about using the art.

Another question is if they would even need to ask him as it's their own intellectual property, especially if he didn't render the 3d-model himself and instead just exported it from the game.

And yes, the fact remains, they jumped to conclusions without knowing the truth. Hell, I still don't know the truth here, which is why I am reserving judgement. I will however, not jump onto the whine wagon without cause or some critical thinking.

The controversy, regardless of the picture starts when you say "BioWare took an imagine from Deviantart".

If it turns out the image from Deviantart is simply reposting an already still image from the game then I agree, it's not the same "controversy" although it still is lame they have to go to a free hosting website with images of their own game to make assets. If the argument is that the Deviantartist took the image from Citadel DLC and edited it and now BioWare takes it into Andromeda, then the "controversy" stands because that is BioWare, professionals who are paid to do a job, taking resources from an image site with art and edits made by unpaid fans.
Either way I don't care about who is paid, I just think it's extremely unprofessional if it turns out BioWare let a fan make a photoshop or an image using their assets for them instead of simply making the image themselves. It's just going to be a little thumbnail in a menu. How hard could this be?

Not even. This is just images to be used for reference, not a reveal or "memento" or whatever. They can simply play ME1 and press "print screen" during a cutscene, then add a vignette filter and call it a day. Don't need Deviantart to do that.

The CC is striped down to it's bare bones. I don't know why they didn't use Inquisition CC. I know each face we can pick to customize is a scanned face, but there will be so many Ryders looking the same.

So, am I the only one that seems to think this Andromeda is looking just like ME3? I was expecting more. More interesting features, like CO-OP.. since the game is ya know.. about working together. The bad guys in the new game sound and kinda look like the ones from ME3.  In multiplayer, we have more of the same repetitive waves, and u cant bring in your character from single player. Maybe Destiny has spoiled me, or I'm bitter about BioWare cancelling the beta and then handling it disrespectfully with zero official announcement on the channels they created to announce such things.  Who's ready for Mass Effect: Baisc?
