A bit bummed by this. I enjoyed fighting with the Mako even if it wasn't the most fleshed out combat.
-oops, getting the Tempest and Nomad mixed up.

Hmmph. Kids these days have no appreciation for a well-calibrated pair of Thanix cannons. And where we would fit this then?

I wouldn't want to be ground troops disembarking the Tempest given the tempest's sole defensive maneouvre if they encounter trouble is to runaway and hide. Gulp, wait we are going to be the ground troops. I'm going to have to revise my character's psychological makeup.

I'm not all that surprised since the game seems to be geared toward exploration more than confrontation. I'm okay with that.

So why are Ryder and squadmates carrying weapons? Not that it matters much since they mentioned already the Pathfinder has military skills, and at least the siblings had military training as well, but technically, Ryder and squadmates operate after arriving in andromeda, and knowing the situation isn't as peaceful as the Initiative seemed to think. As I said in another thread, it seems they want to make the Initiative intentionally dumb and pacifist. At this point I wouldn't ever bet on the presence of other ships with weapons.

Tempest confirmed to be the Normandy's bitch. While I'm against the Tempest being weaponless, they're ships of different classes. They're not comparable regardless of this.

Really disappointing to hear that it's true that tempest is completely defenseless. Was hoping it at least had some weapons if not a main gun. Seems utterly ridicolous to me. Got to wonder why player is allowed to bear any handheld weapons at all at this stage given the seeming priorities of the AI. Well, I sure don't want to join this Initiative. I hear they put the people responsible for finding us a new homeworld in an unknown region of space in completely defenseless ships and vehicles. With this being a one way trip, no place to stay after we arrive, and our leaders not being able to defend us against possible much more powerful alien enemies, it's not a very interesting prospect. Let me reconsider. Maybe they'll be able to replace all ships and personnel fast, if we lose the first ones exploring, since they told us the region is resource rich. And... When our first explorers ventured beyond the first mass relay, we, well, it's true, we ended up in a war with a civilization a lot stronger than ours, but it ended quickly. Peace and reason prevailed. I'm sure nothing could go any different. Ahhhh, maybe I'll join them after all.

The only weapon the Tempest needs is it's five star luxury suite, to show those savages, that never again they're going to observe such elegance.

I suppose the question that remains is this: Do the Ark ships or the Nexus have any self defense hardware installed? Or are we totally screwed if we ever get engaged (or even followed "home") by a hostile force of armed space ships?

I might be wrong, but I recall that the Arks aren't supposed to have weapons, because there was discussions about it...I think. In any case, at this point I think there won't be, and it might be a reason why things are going really bad (they hinted at something happening to the asari ark as well). Maybe their plan was to build up warships after reaching Andromeda. It's still dumb and reckless though.

The problem is that you are calling them "defenseless" like speed and stealth aren't defenses. There are many animals in nature that use speed and camouflageas defenses instead of teeth/fangs/and claws. It has defenses, just not offensive defenses.

Or are we totally screwed if we ever get engaged (or even followed "home") by a hostile force of armed space ships? Considering they are more o less the size of a portal, I think even an ark size cannon could be considered a "planet buster" weapon. For all the information we have up until now, I suppose the Pathfinders will do the recon, gather intelligence and establish objective/targets, while the Apex forces (multiplayer) will grab the firsts and crush the seconds. Lastly Arks/Nexus will execute Exterminatus, if needed.

I suppose that would at least address the dichotomy between us spending whole game shooting things and the pacifist AI. Though if the whole mission was that naive i'm amazed when we arrive the previous arks haven't been enslaved or destroyed by the local populations. If there is a change of emphasis recognised by our armed missions i hope by the end of the game the stupid ship at least has some retrofits made to accomodate at least some minor weaponry.

Tempest confirmed to be the Normandy's bitch. More like poor man's Normandy. That's it. I'm renaming it to Poor Man's Normandy. Hmmph. Kids these days have no appreciation for a well-calibrated pair of Thanix cannons. God damn younglings. I agree with you. Back in our day, we never left the house without a pair of Thanix cannons and some Silaris ablative armor. Hmmph. Kids these days have no appreciation for a well-calibrated pair of Thanix cannons. And where we would fit this then? We wouldn't. For the sake of hardening the fuck up, we'd sleep in a sleeping bag. AND bring Thanix with us! 100 creds say we're gonna jury-rig a Thanix to the Poor Man's Normandy by the end of the game anyway.

While I'm against the Tempest being weaponless, they're ships of different classes. They're not comparable regardless of this. Yes. Normandy was a Alliance frigate while Tempest is a civilian scout ship. And that changes things how? Normandy is a fast stealth-recon frigate-sized ship, and she's armed. Which means that fast and stealthy ships can be armed. Tempest is about the same in size. They are going into complete unknown. Who would suggest that it's a good idea to skip the weapons? How is scouting Andromeda any less dangerous than scouting MW? They can't add any support or protection for the unarmed Nomad and/or troops. What are they going to do if there's a local version of Thrasher Maw nearby? Fly away asap?

And goodbye suspension of disbelief, I will miss you. Yet again this project has made an utterly moronic choice by doing this. There is absolutely no way this would be approved and financed by any group in the Mass Effect universe because they know how dangerous the universe can be. But hey, this is Bioware's Mass Effect team we are talking about. Of course they don't let things like logic stand in their way. Now quickly, look at the shiny graphics that they dangle like keys in front of a toddler since that's what they think we are apparently.

Well, standart procedure for a thresher maw encounter is to haul ass anyway, regardless of how much firepower you're carrying around...
...maybe not the best example?
