Evidence: - The Empire Strikes Back
- Mad Max 2 (original series)
- Dark Knight
And I'm sure there are games that back this up, I just can't think of them at the moment.

Really? It's right in front of you. A BioWare game. Dragon Age 2.

Yes and no in terms of ME, ME3 is the best gameplaywise and as a game, whilst I prefer 2 for the types of missions and subplots.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age are both games where the second game is by far the best. However, it is well known that I have the worst taste in games in the known world.

No. The first Matrix movie was by far the best. As for Mass Effect, it depends on what you value most.
Mass Effect: Best story and world building
Mass Effect 2: Best characters and characterizations (except Shepard)
Mass Effect 3: Best gameplay? I liked it enough to play plenty of Multiplayer when it first came out, but I only played the campaign once.

ME2 is excellent. It has good characters.
But the one that makes ME2 best is Harbinger. ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL. I enjoyed listening to him talk smack to my Shepard. excellent

That he sounded like a sex offender that just got out of the pen after serving hard time certainly added to the entertainment value.

In terns of chars and pacing, ME2. Gameplay, ME3. I played ME3 again recently after the initial touch (and after I installed mods), it felt draggy to me. So yes. ME2 is the best one of the three.

In terms of combat/gameplay, ME3 was by far the best for me. ME2 felt like the most personal story of the three, and is easily my favorite in this regard.

Eh, I don't know about the rest, I just know that I liked ME2 best because of squadmates, romance, customization and to a lesser extent, weapons. ME3 has it beat in combat, weapons and the romance content with Garrus. But ME1 has a special place for roleplaying dialogue, different approaches to combat zones since we weren't restricted to narrow corridors. Sniping felt like true sniping, exploration wasn't an arena battle in a disguised pit, there were alternative outcomes to how we solved a problem.

RE: Gameplay
With the exception of clunkier mobility (compared to ME3), ME2 gameplay was the best. Then again, the clunkiness and the "elbow of death" gave it a more visceral feel.

One of the other things was that right hand advantage is hard to use in ME2 because Shep will point his weapon in the air if you get too close to cover. Small thing, could be considered part of mobility system as well. Or part of the cover system, as ME2 wanted to enforce cover in different ways than ME3 did. Also heavy melee was sort of useful in ME3, the change in melee system made it more annoying to reload cancel in ME3 SP.

ME2 was my favourite of the series for SP content by a fair margin. The story was more personal than the first or third installments, the suicide mission drove home the consequences of (nearly) every decision you'd made in the game, it had the most interesting antagonist in the series (to me), and it had Mordin doing Gilbert and Sullivan. Which is the middle Bond film or Final Fantasy game? Does this only work with trilogies? (And Matrix 2 and 3 were so bad that I can't even enjoy the first one anymore). RE: Gameplay With the exception of clunkier mobility (compared to ME3), ME2 gameplay was the best. Then again, the clunkiness and the "elbow of death" gave it a more visceral feel. I agree with this. Going back to ME3 SP after so much MP, reload cancelling was a nightmare for me.

well ME2 was mostly just recruitment/loyalty missions, it was very fun but kinda repetitive. BUT i loved music in it above all (thanks to amazing Jack Wall!). Suicide mission also was one of more fun things through series.
ME3 was great, i didnt mind the ending, it was like in gothic 3 for me (just sad that series had ended), citadel DLC cracked me up way too many times, a lot of cool weapons, multiplayer is rather engaging.
I think ME1 was most fun for me, you exploring in mako (although terrain looks rather simple), being able to pick omni tools, Armour, biotic amps and cool mods. also missions were very fun, also enemies on harder difficulties that didnt have shields got them, would be a nice feature in mp (like troopers getting them) and most of all...

In terms of combat/gameplay, ME3 was by far the best for me. I agree although I didn't care for the forever run. It was hard to believe Shepard could run through the whole mission without slowing down. I will admit it make for getting through the game quicker. I like to see that changed in the next game

Right, the real reason was because ME3 needed to be more "visceral," "fast paced," and what-have-you.

This one would be a toss up for me. There are trade-offs for parts 2 & 3. Content wize....#2 wins...the missions feel far more expansive than part 3. But the combat in part 3 is what I fell in love with the most..as it was the reason I did 7 single player runs in part 3..as opposed to doing only 2 in part 2. also, fuck all that mining. hours and hours..... I want those back.

I'm not sure what makes ME2 stand out the most, but it is definitely my fav! Heck just getting to the suicide mission to hear that amazing score is one of my guilty pleasures! Can't get enough of that moment and no matter how many times I play it, I still feel fear for the survival of my comrades even though I know none of them can die because I have perfected the playthroughs and chose the same options each time lol
Dragon Age 2 was my first DA game and despite the negativity I've read about it, I have played all 3 games and 2 is still special to me.

Yeah with import bonus you can knock most all scanning out in half an hour or so if you want all the upgrades. There are more resources to pick up in crates.
Of course there is also always gibbed if it is really so painful. Honestly I find it less annoying then the system scan - fetch quest system in ME3.
