OK, so maybe you could get away with possibly a 2X 980 Ti or 2X 1070 setup, but I won't be getting 60 FPS @4k with the beast rig I have.

I just posted this elsewhere on the forum, but thought WTH, might as well post it here as well. This is my fraps of DAI @4k with 2X 980s and a 5820K on 2X SSD Samsung Pro 512 GB in raid 0. I don't think it is really realistic to think people are getting 60 fps on anything less than 2X 1080s and a decent i7. Keep in mind that DA:I was pretty badly optimized on PC, due in part to it being BioWare's first game on the engine. You're still gonna need a solid rig, but hopefully ME:A is better optimized.

As for 60 FPS there's another reason that has nothing to do with the visuals of the game: Most game engines tie a lot of things to framerate. The main one is input from controller/keyboard/mouse is often tied to your framerate, which means that games running at 60 FPS tend to play smoother and feel more responsive than those running at 30 FPS. It's something that's a bigger deal in more fast paced games that require quick reflexes on pushing buttons and split second decisions. That is correct. For MEA it shouldn't really matter much though. Not even the MP. If I were into competitive shooters, then I'd stick to 1080p so I could get the best fps. Not much time to look at pretty flowers anyway. Imo 4K 60fps gaming is still so ridiculously expensive, it's not worth it. Even with Pascal. Not the game changer people thought. I'd even say PC gaming in general is not worth the extra money if we're strictly speaking graphics. Now modding and indie games, that's a different matter. But prettier visuals for $1000 extra at the least? Crazy really. I LOVE my PC eye candy but sometimes I think I should just have bought a PS4 and never made the switch... Zero Dawn is coming out soon and now I'm thinking about a console for exclusives after all. *sigh*

I agree. It was BW's first FBIII game, however, and this might not be a big issue, they were developing for both console generations at the time. This can mean they can dedicate more to PC players OR it can mean that the game is going to have more eye candy for PC users. I don't know which it will be TBH.

I plan on getting 2x GTX 1080s or 1x GTX 1080ti in order to play MEA at 4k resolution with 60fps. Who else plans on doing the same? I'm not. But then again I can't see much of a real difference between 4K at 60 fps and lets say 2k at 30 fps. I'm sure there is one but between my not-so-great eyesight and not having an animation/graphics and/or a technical training background so for me it's at best it's a bunch of technobabble and at worst it's marketing tool to get a lot of tech snobs and graphic nuts to buy expensive TVs, graphic cards, and/or "upgraded" PS4 and XB1 and then surprise it's barely runs in 4k at 60 fps and crashes and causes more trouble for all players as a result. And the game becomes another "dud" by the fans and hurts BioWare and the whole company going forward, because they had to support what is IMHO at best a questionable and somewhat expensive tech upgrade that many players can't see a big difference and most simply can't afford. Of all the upgrades the 4k at 60 fps is the one I wished they had stayed away from. Maybe it works and there are no major problems but somehow I really doubt it.

Ahahaha, consoles are killing the gaming again, but not with stagnating visuals brought down to console level, no, plot twist, it's the other way around, the graphics are too good now! For the last 10 years every PC game I've played (not counting some obscure indies nobody has heared of) has natively supported 4K. Including Mass Effect 1 in 2007. And not made a fuss about it, the ability to select the native resolution of your display has been a common feature not even worth mentioning in the sales pitch. This whole "HDR! 4K! Look at the shinies!" thing got on a hype train when Bioware showed a tech demo on a PS4 Pro in September 2016. Aaryn Flynn specifically mentioned in that video it should be watched on a 4K screen. I think you're on to something, time to start a petition for Bioware to return to old glory Baldur's Gate days, simple graphics engine, lightweight assets, PC exclusive. I'm sure they'll see the errors in their ways and ditch Frostbite/consoles. Now if we could calm down a bit and return to normal discussion? In return I'll do my best to resist the urges to post dank PC master race memes in this thread?

Zero Dawn is coming out soon and now I'm thinking about a console for exclusives after all. *sigh* With ME:A it will depend because in ME3 there was a few things that happened as a result of the way the engine handled things such as: > Enemy AI was more accurate the higher the framerate(they updated player location about every 15 frames). > Damage could only register on a target once per frame, so weapons that fired too quickly would lose damage. The Reegar Carbine was the worst of this, and it was far more OP on PC than it was on the consoles capped at 30 FPS. ME:A uses a new engine, but some things like that may still end up happening. Right now even though I have a 4k monitor I don't actually tend to run a lot of games at 4k because my rig is about 3 years old. It can still handle most modern games at max settings with 1440p and maintain a solid framerate though, because it was top of the line back then. Building a good machine means not needing to upgrade for a long time, plus for me specifically working from home as I do my computer is a "work expense" come income tax time making it a write off =P Of course if you want to stay on top of things and maintain 4k/60 FPS with every modern game, that's going to get expensive because it requires regular upgrades. About the only time I can see that as being worth it is if your job demands that you keep up to date on hardware.

I'm starting a sub-community called the 4K/30fps/HDR with occasional dips to 24fps club: anyone else keen to join me and my 1 1/2 year old rig? I'm calling it "Cinematic Master Race".
