I start playing games pretty much right away. But, the odd thing is, that when I am ready to start my canon playthroughs of various things all the DLC are out anyways. Which has always been... a bit weird how that tends to work out. Though on the flip side sometimes it still takes a while for me to get to my canon anyways. Like my last playthrough of DA I was probably my most 'canon'. yeah so do I tbh although I didn't get DAI till about a month after it came out as I think I bought it just before Christmas that year. I don't really have a canon playthrough though personally I just really consider the one I have active at the moment of playing my canon one. So the one I have on the go with my current Shep and Rachel Travelyan are my canon ones atm.

Would it be smarter to wait? Sure. Will I wait? Hell no. Been waiting a while for this game and buying it on launch. But to each their own, my dude.

I'm not the kind to be first in line to buy anything, so I'm sure at least the initial patches will be out before I buy... probably won't wait for all the DLC though.

I'm really thinking of doing this, but I'll like your opinions. Isn't the game much more fun playing it for the first time with all the story DLC's? nah...each dlc expansion presents an opportunity for a brand new play through, it's perfect

Waiting is better imo, you get the game with all the patches already and probably cheaper (like DAI was). I bought DAI for PC a bit after launch, played like 50h, didn't finish the main story, and stopped playing for a long while. Then when I picked it up again, I started a new playthrough. On the same week, the GOT edition was on sale for the PS4 (it was cheaper than buying all the DLC on PC). I got it and then finished the game on the PS4 with all DLC. I'm actually not bothered by having bought the game early, cause I played it and enjoyed it anyway, but if I knew I'd stop playing like that, I'd just wait for the GOT edition. That being said, I'm pre-ordering Andromeda anyway cause I can't wait to play this game lmao Edit: Yay! With this post I'm now a Full Member

Here is my personal tactic:
Play the base game to conclusion -ONCE! Then DO NOT play it again even after all DLC -story and otherwise are released. After several years -once you have forgotten the game story and endings: Only then go and get all the story DLC's that have been released and replay it.
NOTE: This does not work unless you wait years. For me personally it is at least three years between.

If the story DLC is anything like those of previous Bioware games, then it shouldn't affect your first playthrough much. Also there is co-op MP in the game, it will last you long enough till whatever is released next.

For some things, I would for sure wait for the "Game of the Year" edition with all the DLC and discounted base game. But for Bioware, especially Mass Effect, I want to support them. I love Mass Effect and want the studio to get the most money. That being said, if I play MEA on day 1 and it doesn't meet expectations or is very mediocre, I will probably not buy DLC, or at least until they are greatly discounted. But if I love the game, I will buy DLC as soon as it's available, so that I can support the people making the game and DLC and show them that I want more.

Nah, can't wait. Too invested in the ME franchise and this point and looking forward to this game in particular. Plus, I'm a regular here and it would be weird to be posting my MET exploits while everyone else is posting about MEA.

Considering I do not want to get spoiled yet I do not mind it either so I will have to see how much I can stick around. Of course the only reason I have been able to post this much is my being out of work since November, so when I do go back to work, and hopefully stay back for a very, very, long time, well there will go mos t of my posting time.

I assume there will be a new thread in the MEA section for "What did you do today?" And because the game will be brand new I'll use spoiler tags that I don't use for games that are now 5-10 years old.

I'm not a fan of DLC...well i'am, i just hate downloading stuff. I'd rather have it all on the disk and at this point we have already established that GOTY edition is not gonna happen *looks at ME3*. That said when i purchase a game in general and once i beat it, i won't go back to that game for at least 6 months - year so it can feel fresh whenever i fire it up again. At that point all of the dlc should be out by then and there should be other games that have dropped by then to keep you busy. At some point i'm going to purchase "The citadel" and "Leviathan" DLC for ME3.... ...i just need to bite the bullet and do it...since i know there is not going to be a GOTY edition.

I'm really thinking of doing this, but I'll like your opinions. Isn't the game much more fun playing it for the first time with all the story DLC's? I find it's a great way to do a 2nd playthrough: that way you get NG+ (awesome for Insanity) and all new story content as well. It's like Christmas all over again, plus the 2nd playthrough should have many a patch and UI fix, so that's always a bonus too. Here is my personal tactic: Play the base game to conclusion -ONCE! Then DO NOT play it again even after all DLC -story and otherwise are released. After several years -once you have forgotten the game story and endings: Only then go and get all the story DLC's that have been released and replay it. NOTE: This does not work unless you wait years. For me personally it is at least three years between. I forget enough of the main story beats over about an 18 month period, which is about when all the DLC should be out too, so it works perfectly for me that way. Having said that, I can normally not last that long, and do a 2nd playthrough around the time of the first DLC lol.

Waiting is certainly the most economical way to buy. Of course you risk major spoilage waiting...particularly if you hang around any of these forums.
Traditionally I've bought full price at release as a way to support continued development of these types of games. Right now I'm back and forth on this. On the one hand some of Bio's decision making of late has been rather annoying, but on the flip side even with some of the aggravating design choices there aren't many AAA RPG's available...and it's still preferable to yet another rehash of COD or Halo...of which contains little or no SP story/adventure. I would say I'm leaning toward buying upon release but waiting a few days to ensure the game is playable on PC.
I would say if you don't mind isolating yourself from these forums and other MEA related info sites and of course waiting the year/year and a half for all DLC's to be released, then by all means wait. The question you have to ask yourself is waiting that length of time worth the 40-50$ you'll save yourself.

I think it's better to play before all the DLC comes out. That way, once you beat the game, you'll still have something to look forward to coming out. Agreed I'll be buying and playing the game many times before and after the DLC's come out for it so I*m not that worried I just want to enjoy it. Besides if enough of us started waiting till the DLC's came out or until a game of the year kind of pack was available Biowaer might not end up making any. They'd only make them if they were likely to sell and make money. They'd need to know that people are buying and supporting their products before they make them. Precisely! I've already pre-ordered the game, and am eagerly waiting to explore Andromeda. Bioware is my favorite game developer, and I try to do my part to support them- So they can keep making more games I enjoy!

Yeah as long as they keep making the DA and ME series the way they do I'll keep supporting them. Admittedly there are one or 2 things that do concern me about MEA like the lack of pause to aim for example but not enough to put me off getting it at least not yet anyway. I just hope that the lack of pause to aim dosen't interfere with the difficulty too much and ends up making it too hard for me to play. Hopefully they go into more detail about how the powers work soon.

The pause and aim feature really helped me to get out of harm's way, when I needed to. Besides that, I am also curious about how the new cover system will feel. Since there is no snap to cover, anymore.

It all works well enough in the trilogy to give me enough of a challenge to make me think or I end up being careless but not too much of a challenge that I get frustrated with it and that's what I love most about Bioware's games. Because Dragon Age is like that as well. Hopefully this will continue into Andromeda but only time will tell.

I do this with most games now days anyway. I gave a trait not found in many of today's generation, it's called patients. It doesn't bother me to wait a year or two after a game releases to pick it up. I bought both the Dragon Age and Mass effect series like that. After they had released the last of their DLC. Just bought Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 with all of it's DLC for less then half the cost. Still the same amount of fun.

yeah same with me I only play on casual/easy though mostly because of my disability and I can't really play games that are too hard and I do rely on the pause to aim to deliver my powers accurately. Sorry to hear about your disability. But here's hoping you'll feel right at home in Andromeda! yeah I can play games generally on easy levels as long as I don't have to be super quick on the buttonslike you have to sometimes when a QTE comes along and seeing as the trilogy dosen't have them I'm OK in the trilogy's case it's just a case of being aware of what's going on around you and making the right decisions to get around it which isn't too hard.

I see what you mean. That's why I was happy to know they had a "Narrative" difficulty in ME3. For those who want to experience the story, without all the trouble that comes with harder difficulties.
