I actually liked the mini scanning game in ME2, found it... oddly relaxingGets alot of hate here, never bothered me, same with ME1 Mako hopping about, good times.

According to Bio (Condominas), the scanner is very important....
"... it's actually a very important part. We have a number of exploration mechanisms, whether it's an environmental puzzle or discovery, which can have a direct impact on game play...". Presumably we discover a blueprint or such.

Depends on it's usage. I like the concept a lot, but I don't want to have to hit it every few seconds while playing for fear of missing something. ,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸-(_MEA_)-,.-~*´¨¯¨`*·~-.¸
From Mac Walters: "... this is a scientific adventure..... You're also an explorer, an adventurer.... you have to be someone that can meet people and talk to them.... diplomat".
I hope they gave some type of markers to let us know when to turn it on.

It's going to be like Elfroot isn't it? Gross! Hopefully, it will be more similar to ME1, where driving around in the Mako had many rewards, despite being a lot of nothing for the majority of the time. You saw many things you didn't have to see, but they added so much depth to the universe. Hidden pyramids, space cows, looting pyjaks, hidden mercs.... There was a lot of content to find, even cutscenes, if you looked for them.

I am too but I fear they could over use it like the Witcher 3 over used it but for less reason. In the gameplay trailer in December we saw them going over a crime scene and using the scanner. Something Geralt of Rivia does a lot. Now I do not mind. A murder myster in the ME universe with the scanner might be really cool and unique, something I do not think we've seen before. But, the Ryder's aren't Witchers. So it should be used sparingly, and specifically. After the critiques they got about fetch quests, I am actually seeing this as a kind of witcher senses thing but for investigations with monologues or talking with Reyes. I am all for it, it gives dept to the side quest and that was gravely needed in DA:I.

If it's just going to be an arcade gameplay of "hold button to see stuff you can't normally see/interact with" then it's nothing to get excited about.
I'm not expecting any deep gameplay here.
Having said that, I didn't mind the sense mechanic in witcher 3, so anything similar will be acceptable.

Could be fun. So long as it's not like ME2 planet scanning which grew old very quickly.

If it is scanning planets as in ME2, or ME3 I am Okay, I loved that. But if it is like that Macro-binoculars and Seeker Droid in SWTOR... it could get very tedious very fast.
