*snip* I made a bunch of moving pictures of spaceships again. These are from both the cinematic trailer and the briefing video: Oh, what would these space threads be without you. Probably less of a resource drain on people's computers? (Seriously though, thank you! I just make them for my many and various Dropbox .gif folders; I'm super glad other people enjoy them too!)

Ryder kinda sounds like Nolan North. Even Taylorson, Scott's voice, said that he's sometimes mistaken for Nolan.

I guess it was alright. Seems like another generic bad guy, (how'd you get in an Andromeda, Corepheus?) Hair still looks like shit...and that's with it optimized for the trailer. Wait til people try to run it on a PC with anything less than a high end video card...it'll be marginal on PS & x-bone. I didn't think Cora's looks were anything to write home about...a bit on the butch side. An improvement over Cassandra, but that's not really a high bar to clear. I really wish they'd let us customize our companions in the CC. I did think the kiss scene was expertly done. I also liked Liam's character design...thought it was good. And of course: I don't need an Army, I've got a Krogan line. Krogan rule. I guess a mixed bag of good and bad.

At the risk of going wildly off topic... What's your Voyager gif collection like? Bonus points for Delta Flyer. It's not as good as my TNG collection, I'm afraid - I've been meaning to watch the series again and pick some scenes to bulk it out, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet - and I don't think there's a single shot of the Flyer in there. Here's what I do have:

I don't think hairs honestly look that bad quality wise (well, at least not like shit), although on a related note I noticed in some parts Scott look a bit more like his previous version. I kind of think some scenes were taken from previous builds.

Also, the line(which listened to the trailer a fourth time while typing this) of Scott's "We're not an army, we're explorers". Should put an end to the whole 'why isn't the Tempest/ Nomad/ etc, etc, etc.' armed' argument once and for all. Yes, but not in the way you mean. The trailer just showed you what a massive waste of time and space trying to defend that crap for 46 pages really was. Literally, out of the gate (inb4 it was just cut that way) and your (not you personally, obviously) precious "stealth, speed and/or maneuverability > guns" argument gets one of these: spoilered for the faint-hearted

I'm genuinely interested as to what it is in the trailer you don't like? I have to admit that a pretty good section of the trailer does seem pretty generic. It starts out not bad with a VO about some exploration stuff. We figure out they're stranded and worried about their ship presumably falling to pieces around them and are looking for a world to settle. It sets up the exploration bit that's been talked up about the game. After that it just goes into overarching villain making threats, protagonist making a few wise cracks, and some one liners that are pretty much trailer bait to begin with. It becomes like most standard "epic" action flick trailers I've seen for other games or movies. Which I suppose must work to sell copies of the thing, otherwise we'd have stopped using this formula. Hi Cyonan. This isn't a criticism of your post. Your comment prompted me to think a bit more and I'd like to credit you for what you've written here. Your comment got me thinking about other recent posts that find fault with Andromeda (and today's trailer) simply because it 'seems' like it hasn't broken new ground in the Sci-fi genre. In other words, Andromeda seems to some as a bit formulaic and they count that as a negative. Even though there will be similar themes, tropes, formulas, and other aspects in Andromeda that we have probably seen elsewhere in some form (Déjà vu) from previous Sci-fi novels, movies, and elements from many combat movies, etc, I can't look down on a game just for that reason. I think of the phrase 'there's nothing new that's under the sun' (Ecclesiastes 1:9 ). This is pretty true to a large degree in Sci-fi. Themes like AIs wondering if they have a soul (Legion, and Sonny in 'I, Robot'), synthetics in conflict with organics ('I, Robot' and 'Rossum's Universal Robots', see here) and synthetics that 'feel' they are in love with an organic (like the humanoid Rayna in Star Trek's TOS episode 'Requiem for Methuselah' (and the reverse situation too, like Joker in love with Edi), all have commonality. I can't look down on a Sci-fi story or trailer when 'I've seen this before', mostly. An intrigue for me is sometimes figuring out in my mind (and memory) where I've seen the same theme or trope or resolution before. Also, I often ask myself: "Can I appreciate how these themes were reworked with a new twist?" So long as there's a clever wrinkle, a new twist, a plausible fantasy, well written characters, and something to care about at a personal level, having familiarity with what I'm seeing isn't the problem from my perspective. As a Sci-fi fan I expect I'll see lot's themes that I've seen before. So long as I see a little different take on them that are interesting for me to follow, then I'll enjoy it - even if a trailer's formula is a common/standard one. However, Star Wars Episode 7 was so similar to Episode 4 that I just didn't enjoy it.

I'm guessing this will be the only romance for a straight FemRyder. Sure hope he has a decent personality, Jacob 2.0 would be a tragedy of epic proportions. Otherwise, my FemRyder will just have to stay single. Not necessarily. I believe Bioware mentioned there being quite a number of romances outside of your regular squad members. God, I truly hope so. If this guy would be the only choice then my Ryder would definitely stay single. He obviously appeals to some but to me he's not attractive in any way and personally I really don't like dreads. At this point the male Ryder seems to be getting better options. I wish they would show us more characters. But other than that, I'm really excited and the vid looked amazing.

What on earth makes you think he'll be like Jacob Isn't it obvious? He's black. All blacks are the same. Far from it. I was just very disappointed with the direction they took Jacob in ME3 and I hope they do better if Liam is a romance.

Well considering the stuff shown in the trailers and game play so far, I think the game will run fine for most computers so long as it is not poorly optimized. Not seeing any extreme graphic details that'll tank performance.

I don't get the first one. She does remind me of Cassandra, just blond and with longer hair, kinda similar face shape and complexion. If you don't agree with me thats fine. I hope she gets better voice acting than Cassandra did, though...

I think the trailer was OK. Not great, not bad, somewhere in the middle. I don't think it really gave us any new information as to what we can expect the game will be like at all, but it did show what a few things we already knew will look like. I do think it was a bit overhyped with all these tweets though.

@crutchThat was a really lovely picture there Crutch. Fantastic even, so much so I am not actually going to quote you. But anyways the events of the trailer supports my entire argument from top to bottom. The Andromeda Initiative wants to be peaceful explorers, they are not a conquering army, any weapons that they do have is for defense only (small fighters out on patrol or personal fire arms for ground teams). IE the AI does not want to project power. They do not want to conquer. With fleets/ Aircraft carriers/ Amries you project power. And the aim of the AI was never for conquest. This makes sense. It is logical. Everything matches up perfectly if you make the assumption that you can get away with being peaceful explorers. -But- Its an incredibly stupid/ naive viewpoint to make. But BioWare has shown us again, that they got it, they understand this might not be the best argument to make to launch a massive expedition based on those assumptions. So this is good writing. Just as an aside though the Tempest having a main gun would have helped them out of NONE of the situations shown in the trailer. Hell might have gotten them easily killed actually and hurt them a great deal.

I already tried (and hated) an NPC romance in DAI, so I don't care for that option. The romance is far less immersive and important feeling if you only see your honey on shore leave. Even as shallow as "romances" were in Skyrim, they at least got it right in so far as your spouse could always accompany you on your adventures. That is my preference, or I feel it just isn't worth bothering with.

Gotta say, this was the first trailer to really get me pumped for Andromeda! There wasn't a single thing I could pick out of that and say "huh, wish they had of done something different."
Love the appearance of the squadmates. Cora, Liam, and the rest we already knew. They all look great! I do feel like they're very slightly stylized, but I'm thinking that has to do with the engine, not the specific game.
Hope they can maintain this momentum up to launch!

Just as an aside though the Tempest having a main gun would have helped them out of NONE of the situations shown in the trailer. Hell might have gotten them easily killed actually and hurt them a great deal. You can clearly tell it's fake. The teeth are marshmallows Now, unless they want to be dead peaceful explorers, they had better reconsider. Oh wait, if this was written with any semblance of sanity or forethought, they would've. Give it up. You saw how this stupidity directly led to precisely the kind of situation people have been telling you about. And enough with this conquerors shit. We just went through an entire trilogy of games where everything was armed and precisely zero people were conquerors (Reapers and friends were exterminators). Weapons=/=conquerors, weapons = people in dangerous space who want to live a little longer. With adequate defenses Ryder might've done more than stand there like a retard, instead ordering evasive maneuvers and clearing a path through the smaller ships which look plenty vulnerable. Even if it only made them flinch/think twice due to supressing fire it might've been enough of a window for a quick escape. Again I'm straight up boggled how you or anyone else can sit there and tell me doing nothing and being able to do nothing while threatened by an obviously hostile and unknown alien force is a perfectly logical occurence. I'm also really curious about how you think BioWare showed us "they got it". If they'd "gotten it" they would've put a damn gun on the Tempest. If they did in the final game, well then I'll retract my statements and stand with you. But for now, it's no less moronic, now that we have visual freakin evidence of everything I and others have been saying for weeks now.

I'm also really curious (and less shocked) about how you think BioWare showed us "they got it". If they'd "gotten it" they would've put a damn gun on the Tempest. If they did in the final game, well then I'll retract my statements and stand with you. But for now, it's no less moronic, now that we have visual freakin evidence of everything I and others have been saying for weeks now. From a development standpoint its probably way too late to add weapons on the Tempest unless they are always going to be there somehow. But regardless, two of the situations we saw in the trailer the Tempest was grinding up against something in incredibly tight quarters. If the Tempest had a 'main gun' and fired it they would have broke their ship. If they fired on the Kett (even the small ships) The Archon would have wiped them out without a second thought and probably wouldn't have done them the courtesy of calling first.
