And for myself, it's just... male LIs are about 500% more likely to give us heartbreak of some sort than female ones are. So regardless of whether this leak is legit or not, there's a decent chance we'll get some sort of melodrama/tragedy (be it present or past) solely because Jaal is a male LI, and I feel the need to prepare myself. I always intended to romance Liam first because, based on what we know of his personality, he seems the safer bet in this regard (plus I doubt they'll pull another Jacob and have Liam dump us/cheat on us because it would be really really bad to have another black male romance option do that). So again, this 'leak' only confirms what I'd already kind of guessed at anyway. If Jaal's romance does turn out to be a sad one, I'll still play it, but I'd like to know in advance because this isn't the sort of surprise I enjoy.

I like the idea that Jaal's romance has a little sad in it. The "no. god no." makes me think that the "sad" isn't him leaving you at the end, since that would be similar to Solas. I think either he has a sad past or something sad happens to him/his people over the course of the game.

And I'm cool with that. If I'm honest, super sweet, no complexity or tension friends to lovers romances bore me in most media (romances like Josephine's are a complete yawn fest to me and even Garrus' was just a'ight). I'd be happy if Jaal's had a bit of an edge, and I prefer the romances that have heavy involvement with the plot. I absolutely adore Solas romance and the nuance to his character and I was never crying or sad over the breakup as a lot of people were. I just thought it added depth to him and the story, and I still think the romance will turn out in the future one way or another. Not that I want another Solas type, because I don't. Unlike Solas, I doubt there would be any hope of reconciliation with Jaal were he to leave you. And we know that no squadmate is dying, so that cuts that out!

So no leaving and no dying. That cuts out a lot of the unacceptable melodrama for me. The only thing that would turn me off is a"dead lover " story, which I somehow doubt they'd do again after the backlash. And Jaal doesn't strike me as the type to be wallowing in his sad past like a Fenris type, though I guess it can't be ruled out.

Bioware's track record of tragic LIs (especially males) doesn't leave me much hope that they've veered away from that, so that leak being true or not I wouldn't be surprised that a romance is going to be doomed/sad/tragic, etc. One of the devs tweeted that they made a mistake during a squadmate's loyalty mission, and took a poll on living with decision or reloading. Wonder if we can royally screw up things and THAT causes drama

Besides, how is a doomed romance happy and sad? Sounds just sad to me, and far too close to the Solas romance for it to be denied so vehemently.
