It would be really weird if Reyes was the gay LI. I dunno, the Latino being the designated gay crew non-companion LI again?

Which, while Latin(ish), I wouldn't quite describe as Latino anyway.

I know what you mean but it's still another brand and Dorian and Steve don't resemble each other at all, whereas the new gay NPC romance has quite a few similarities with Steve. (if he's our gay NPC at all...I just speculate)

Hum like I said up there, I was not talking about design. Also the pigmentation of the skin has nothing to do with being a latino, it is about the culture and language.

If we talk about culture no country on earth is like Tevinter...we don't have magisters, blood rituals, the circle of magi and so on....

A lot of fantasy worlds take inspiration or are blatant ripoffs of real world countries, cultures, legends, cults and such. There's no escaping that.

Sigh, ok let me explain this. Latino does not mean Spanish it means your language, country and culture has heavy roots on the Latin language and culture. And yes, actually there is Latin words in Tevinter, you just need to look at names of characters. And as a latina myself I sure could relate a lot more with Dorian when it comes to his views of patriotism, homophobia, culture clash and so on.

I just mentioned both examples because I (we) don't exactly know where the new NPC comes from. Reyes sounds like a spanish name (if this guy is Reyes, which I guess), but as far as I know that name (if related) and the skin colour are all informations we have of him...and as I said you can always find inspirations from more than one country...there are, for example, lots of homophobic, patriotic countries in the world. It doesn't transform Dorian into a latino guy, when there's no Latin America in the Dragon Age world.

Like I said if your culture has heavy roots on the Latin language and culture, than you can be considered a latino. So to me Dorian is a gay latino man because I live in this world and it translates as that to me. It is the same that saying that Sera is not a lesbian because the word and concept do not exist in game.

This is pointless, I am going to stick with my headcanon, this is getting too off-topic.

I don't say the term lesbian itself is universal, but the meaning behind f/f...Sera states at one point during the game that she only loves women so the meaning is the same as in our world, even if we call it lesbian and the Dragon Age world doesn't.... whereas concepts of homophobia, patriotism or anything else aren't limited to latino cultures, so you can't directly translate Tevinter culture to Latino only. It is still a fictional world with elements that are observable in different countries of our own world as well...

Slightly muscular, lean athletic build. Dark skin, but not black. Short black hair and facial hair, but no full beard.
Am I talking about dorian, cortez or this new guy? You tell me.
The diversity among the main female LI's has never been great, but it's better than this. At least they have different hair.

I don't want to be nitpicking, but you can't really compare Dorians hair or mustache with Steves buzzcut and stubble... Otherwise you must also compare Miranda with Ashley who both have black shoulder length hair and white skin. I agree though, that this new guy sounds too similar to Cortez.

Huh, I had impression that Tevinter and especially Dorian were leaning more on middle east- India in particular. Dorian's VA was ethnically Indian and first they were thinking indian accent for him I think.
In terms of ME:A romances, well diversity of LIs is good. It would be nice to get some suffling.

I thought that the devs confirmed that the closest parallel for Dorian's ethnicity would be Indian. I thought I read that back when DA: I came out. Note: That doesn't mean that all Tevinter magisters have this ethnicity. Look at Mae, very different. Just that the Pavus family has that ethnicity. Although, I'm not sure how far that holds up when scrutinized. But they definitely confirmed him as a person of color and made reference to India.
And, yeah, I'm not really thrilled about the trend in gay human guys. They are all swarthy, which isn't necessarily my jam. But Cortez was hot, despite not being my "type". And Dorian was certainly handsome (and grew on me over time), despite not being my "type". So I'm not too upset about this new guy.....yet. Yes, on paper, he sounds similar to Cortez. But I'm going to hold out until I see him. Maybe he'll be unique enough that we won't draw immediate parallels to Cortez.
What I'd love to see is a pale blond/redhead human guy for gay PCs. There was a string of them in DA (Alistair, Anders, Sebastian, Cullen), but, outside of Anders (my least favorite -- I mean, a ponytail?!?), they were all straight. Give me a Cullen looking soldier.
