There are a few posts I was going to quote but they were several pages ago. The general topic concerned two things I wanted to respond to though, both affected by the reality of the events going on:
The first is the 'need' for knowing in advance. I think both sides are right, depending on the context. In a situation with no advance character info or just the bios and platonic preview scenes I think the secrecy is great.
Then there is the 'shallow' comment about being interested in characters without knowing them in game. As some admitted yeah there can be shallow reasons like wanting alien options but frankly the entire 'Drack is definitely no option' is shallow too. Again though the context matters.
In both instances the constant teasing changes everything. Not a week goes by as far as I can tell without some teasing be it about nudity and sex or 'just you wait' teasing over say Jaal's voice for example. On that character's topic in particular incessant teasing with him turning out to be only for the ladies will have been rather cruel.
It is not the lack of advance warning for romance options that bothers me. I would actually support that on its own. It is the constant teasing combined with that.

It feels quite weird to me that they are hyping up some romances like Jaal's, but then there is no confirmation who he's romance for so that really kills my hype about romancing him at the moment. If I knew that he was option for my Norman then I'd be all over that, but at the moment I have no idea and some stuff has killed my optimism so I'm just.. pending for confirmation.
This is kinda my fault for starting to plan my characters before the game (or romance info) is out.. but I can't help it when I hear information about Ryders. Sadly, I have already given into temptation and planned too much and likely will get disappointed when I finally have confirmation on some romances. Sigh.

Thank you, dear. More evidence to support the case. They are willing to tease hetero romance, (after shutting LGBT people down for asking by telling them to wait for the Prima Guides!) but not gay male romance. Wonderful

Just a random thought about the romances in general. So far, two of my favorite BW romances are Garrus and Iron Bull, for similar reasons. It isn't because they are both non-human; it's not like I find either of them physically attractive. However, they both have a key element for me: a good friendship arc. With both Bull and with Garrus, I felt like the romance added to what was an already solid friendship. Plus, the humor is very important. Parts of Bull's romance are genuinely funny and I like the way that even a romanced Garrus will be a smartass to FemShep. I know that the details of those romances aren't for everyone, especially Iron Bull. However, I've talked to folks that would enjoy having a funny and deep friendship arc to add to the romance. This is how I look at it: "Being friends is the only way to be lovers. Staying friends is the only way to be married."--Mercedes Lackey And then you have people like me who just can't romance a Turian/insert other milky way race here, will never find em attractive in that way. Can only go human/Asari. I'm shallow and I've made my peace with this. I'm the same, except that I also have quarian on my potentially attractive list.
And speaking of Andromeda, I'll have to see more of the angara in game before I make a judgement on their bangability index. Right now, they are borderline.

Really what's lame about this is that some people can pretty freely, without any worry of being let down, talk about the romances and all that good jazz, while those who have no confirmation of any sort, not even any teasing of any romances as of yet, kinda have to not get too invested in any romance, because the chances of being let down are just that big. A lot of the fun comes from speculating about a specific romance and junk, some people get to do that without a worry, knowing that '' I'm gonna get to romance this person anyway so might as well get super invested in this particular character right now!! '' while others kinda have to watch from the sidelines.
OF COURSE, this is only my experience anyway. OF COURSE, there's more to characters than just their romance. OF COURSE, only one romance has been officially confirmed.
But still. It's pretty lame. I wanna start fanboying too WITHOUT having to play emotional russian roulette. I don't wanna die in three weeks!

Jaal could yet be Bi etc. Can't be easy to be under orders to not reveal specifics yet still feel like you are engaging.

While we're on the topic of Liara: I hope they don't push one (or two) romances as "moar canon" than the others. That sets my teeth on edge. It's bad enough hearing the fans tear each other apart over stuff like that; the last thing I want is the devs encouraging it. But Garrus IS the canon ME romance. (Not a flamebait, just fun. Also the truth. ) This girl was saying how there's never a bad time to romance Alistair, and Aaryn said "wait until you meet Jaal" and swooinng started from the girls. Yes, this is a clumsy ~confirmation of the Sara-Jaal. I still don't see how this rules out the possibility of the Scott-Jaal romance.

Talking about romance flag glitches - I'm playing ME3 at the moment, and my Sheploo is romancing Kaidan, it's all locked in, and there goes Liara's dad talking about how Shep and Liara are in love and some shit. No. They really aren't. LOL the same happened to me yesterday! I read that it has something to do with the first conversation that you have with Liara in the Normandy, but I didn't test it yet

If they'd responded to a comment and likened him to Bull or something, I'd be more reassured.

It's bad enough hearing the fans tear each other apart over stuff like that; the last thing I want is the devs encouraging it. Agreed! I'm a bit undecided between PeeBee and Cora (leaning towards PB though) and I don't want either of them to really feel like one is more connected to Ryder than the other. I hope every squadmate especially the romanceable ones have an equal connection with Ryder so it doesn't feel like I'm shortchanging myself from the clearly better/more favored option.I enjoyed the Liara romance but when I went to do playthroughs for Miranda, Ash, Tali, and Jack I was clearly getting less content all the while Liara still felt like she had the deepest connection with my Shepard. Especially with them decided to go with a smaller squad of six so that each of them can be more developed and connected.

I liked Zevran and all, but Alistair's personality was so much more my type.
Well, I guess I've got to hold on to my half-hearted pessimistic hoping for a m/m squadmate romance in Andromeda (I don't really care which one--right now I think I prefer the look of Liam but, based on this new tease, might prefer the personality of Jaal--so either will do).
