The Character Romance thread (Official)

Well, we killed Liara's mom in the first game, so, that was a little sad. Then in the second game, Liara gives your corpse to Cerberus to revive you and becomes a revenge-driven information broker to deal with the guilt of believing she a) betrayed you in doing so, and got a new friend killed in the process. The third game--her planet explodes.

It's a little sad, sometimes.   But I suppose, it's only in the second game that the game seemed to want me to... feel sad, in the context of the romance. Like, the other things were sad because they were sad and horrible and awful. The second game was awesome, because Liara found a real calling in what she does, and she likes doing the information brokering. But, there's moments where I found myself wondering if Liara was still... herself? It made the ending of the DLC really work for me.

So, I guess, it depends on what they mean by sad. Is it Anders-blows-up-a-chantry sad? Is it Solas sad? Is it Thane sad? Liara sad would be nice, I think. There's a bump, but you get over it and move on.

[SNORTS] I dunno what we're all thinking: no one ends up really happy in Mass Effect romances. Except if you choose Destroy. And somehow survive reentry. With no helmet.

But, again. Kaidan's romance is briefly sad--there's a bump. There's conflict. (You might end up having to kill him, but, whatever.) But then you get over it, and the romance continues into happier times. It's probably exactly like that with Jaal, where the Khet wreck house and then he's angry about not being there or something. 

But I could be wrong and it could be devastation and dead guppies.

I saw that list referenced, but not the original site before. The poster says they got all their info from leaks they saw here on the BSN... Seems to me s/he mixed up the actual leaks with the speculation surrounding them, unless there's info that came from somewhere else not mentioned. At that point the only leaks that originated here were about
I don't remember any leaks about Vetra? Just the oopsie 'space-wife' tweet that got deleted, and the VA's Facebook post about making out with her hand.

If you go to Tumblr and search, half the people there treat our speculation as the word of God!

See this shit right here is why I dislike them not confirming the LI's.

Even if we try not to get excited about that, we're going to be. And if it turns out to be nothing when we get the game everyone's going to disappointed. It sucks.

It's the Vetra one that made me go "hmm", since she was--when this Tumblr post was made--widely speculated as being a Rydette-only option. But that person does say their sources are BSN. [WEIGHS HANDS] It's really hard to figure out what's a leak and what's not, ya know? The worst thing is if we get into a leak-loop, where someone suggests something on Tumblr, and we see it and think it's a leak, and then Tumblr/Twitter sees it and thinks it's a leak, and then the cyclone takes out a barn. I guess we should discuss most anything that looks like a leak, even if only to toss it out with a "we have dismissed that claim".

So... updated speculation list, featuring confirmed characters so far (as in, what I believe will happen due to precedent and from released/leaked info, versus what my optimism wants me to say):

We're masters of it at this point! Funny thing is... if you look through our posts, someone got it right, here and there. You could probably find half the game's plot if you look hard enough!   I was on the original original Solas thread on BSN, and it looked a whole lot like the Jaal thread with all the speculation. And pretty much everything we learned about  Solas, someone at some point guessed at!

To be entirely fair about Solas, we guessed a lot of his story because a month or so before release, someone got hold of Chris Priestly's conversation in a private Facebook group where he discussed Solas being the huge Anders-like gamechanger of DAI. We wouldn't have been that close to on the right track otherwise, and a lot of us were still pretty surprised at exactly what he turned out to be. The only thing we had going for us before that is that we knew Weekes was being purposefully opaque when he kept insisting that Solas was some regular old hedge mage.

Well he's not Solas, so that's a good sign!

And I HOPE Liam is not like Kaidan, but his writer IS Kaidan's, so I'm not sure about that romance... and yet I want to try it!
