However I wonder if all LI's being bisexual, but non-LI's having different sexualities would work? That way you would still have different sexualities in the game and diversity with them without taking away LIs from the players. I wouldn't mind this, but the difficulty comes in how do you productively showcase a non-LI's sexuality without having to resort to telling people '' yeah this guy is gay, this lady is bi, this person is trans '' on social media. How do you drop such info ingame and make it seems fluid, smart but still obvious to the player that '' yeah, this person is this, that's cool, moving on '' and without seeming like you are just creating LGBT characters for the sake of pandering.

I don't say the leak is true...but according to it, there's no nudity at all, also no partial nudity (no topless Scott). The person who claimed it only spoke about partial nudity with topless Scott in a human based romance scene. Actually, the dude who brought in the Jaal leak said that Rydude could be shirtless, while Rydette would have boobs and butts. SOURCESorry, for answering so late. No, the person who claimed the leak said that Scott has partial nudity with the human character and no nudity with Jaal. And in another post, Daveliam said: "I spoke with him as well and specifically asked what he meant by "partial nudity" for the ScottxReyes scene (because my leak indicated that they were just shirtless with a fade to black). He said that his leak saw the same thing but he was calling that partial nudity. So if he considers shirtless male as "partial nudity", it would imply that Jaal's scene had ZERO nudity (not even shirtless) since he made a clear distinction that Jaal was no nudity and Reyes was partial nudity (shirtless)." So, if the leak turns out to be true, there's no nudity at all between Jaal and Scott unless they've changed it since then.

I doubt that Jaal will be a bi option either at this point, since I doubt they would only show a shirtless version for one gender who can romance him and not the other. As shitty as that prospect is, I think we might be looking at no bi or gay male squadmates whatsoever.

Yes, this is why I'm so sceptical and even thought Jaal might be a straight character who can only share platonic feelings with Scott. That would suck however. : / If they want to include an asexual/platonic relationship they should do it with a character who's asexual, no matter what gender you play. I don't want to have a have a sexless relationship with Jaal, knowing that female characters can have him both romantically and sexually.

I think it's fairly simple. I guess it could be something like with Traynor or Cortez only they wouldn't be romanceable. And though I haven't played it up to that point, I think Borderlands has a few examples that people said felt organic. Really the best thing Bioware can do if they want queer rep to feel fluid is to just do their research, talk to actual queer folks and broaden their own perceptions, and then just write it in, because there will always be people calling it pandering or not organic - rightfully or not. But it's defs easier to do this with LIs and more important characters we spend more time with, in that order. (So just make all the important characters queer. Problem solved ) Honestly, all bi LIs - not playersexual. I hate that people use those two terms so interchangeably - would probably be the best way to go about the romance issue. My only concerns would be that I selfishly just want a gay squaddie in Mass Effect and that the same sex scenes - primarily the m/m ones - would get less content, because unfortunately there's a precedent that seems to be continuing if some leaks are to be believed

Are you trolling right now? No big issue if Jaal and Vetra are straight??? It wouldn't be for you, of course, as you'd get the most romance options again and can ride through the game on your wave of privilege like this thread. There will be a big issue if they are both straight, as that would pretty much mean gay and lesbians get no squadmate romances. For gods sake have you not read the past pages on this thread? Its very naive to come here and say it would be no big issue. Let me tell you it would be a big issue, even for some straight players, who don't like listening to other players complain about something they can't complain about. Read post above. Also, you have to understand that while there are straight people like me who don't mind all BI characters, if Bioware makes every alien BI all of a sudden then it start to seem ridiculous for vast majority of straight fanbase (which is the largest). You stumble upon so many people every day and how many of them are BI? let alone gay? Now you fly to Andromeda and bam, every alien is either BI or gay ? Doesn't make sense I'm afraid. Further deliberation about this topic is kinda pointless too, since we will get what will get and none of us at this point has any influcence on that. Let's wait for the game to release, then there will be a lot to discuss. The game is full of aliens. Having two bisexual aliens on your team isn't "ridiculous" if the majority are straight and only attracted to their species like in the other Mass effect games. And Drack is probably straight, so its not even like all the aliens in our squad are bi.

But they had to make a decision on this one way or another I personally really don't mind BI characters, hell I wouldn't mind if all romanceables were playersexual. But for those who mind that (and turns out they are a large % of the fanbase) they had to 'balance' this somehow.
1 month and we all learn how Are you seriously implying that, simply out of majority, the straight male players should once more be entitled to the most options again? Please check and acknowledge the privilege of statements like the ones you are making, cause you shouldn't be surprised when people call you out on it. I know you don't like it but it is what it is. He didn't said that he want this. Don't lash out like this at him.

No problem with tentacled head aliens, but unbelievable, that some of these are bisexuals? This very logical. It's amazing the excuses people will come up with for why there should be less LGBT characters. Honestly, for some straight players, it goes back to the fact that they're fine with LGBT people who are background characters or are, in general, characters they don't care about... But if it turns out it's their fave, then it's bad because -insert reason they pull out of their ass here-. If you guys don't believe me, just look at the Tracer backlash where a ton of male players got #triggered by Tracer being revealed as gay. And, before people jump on my case about my language there, I'm not talking about all male players, obviously. And I'm not talking about all straight players. I'm saying this because people have jumped the gun before in this thread, assuming that we're just ~hating on straight people or whatever rather than venting about inappropriate behavior we're seeing. In addition, it seems like it's easy to characterize us as attacking people for these shitty arguments for why there should be less LGBT characters or why this character shouldn't be gay or bi or why that canon can't possibly have LGBT central characters. However, think about it this way: these arguments aren't new to us. Every time we've had to discuss why those arguments don't work and why they come from an inherent bias. Can you blame some of us for getting annoyed when it's trotted out for the millionth time?

Not mentioned, that I didn't experienced too much resistance against asari's bisexuality in the circle of the straight male gamers. This was okay (I dont think, the reason was the totally acceptance toward the REAL bisexual women – sadly), but bisexual MALE character just "unbelievable", sometimes uncomfortable (Anders, Dragon Age).

Yeah, I noticed that male gamers seem to be more okay with gay/bi female characters than gay/bi male characters. I think with some of them it's that they feel gay/bi male characters are more threatening to their sexuality and/or that liking those characters might come off to their peers as "gay." With some, the way they talk about gay/bi women makes me think they don't even take their sexualities seriously and think of it as a "phase" before they meet the "right guy." Meanwhile, with male sexuality, they're less likely to think of it as a phase to go through. In general, like you, I don't think these guys seeming more okay with bi women than bi men is out of genuine acceptance for bi women.

I strongly doubt that BW would make all squad members except for an Asari straight. That's an approach they have already been trying to step away from in ME3, seeing how criticized it was in the first two games. So having both Jaal and Vetra be straight is the least probable option imo. Assuming Liam and Cora are straight I suppose Vetra might be straight as well, since there's already Peebee on the team. Jaal I'm pretty sure will be bi, if only because I find the leak mentioning his sex scenes with both Ryders to be believable. But of course as of yet there's nothing proving that Liam and Cora are straight. Yep that sounds pretty weird. Liam, Cora, Jaal and Vetra aren't likely all bi, but them being all straight would be baffling to me as well. I'm leaning towards Jaal and Peebee as bi, Cora and Liam straight and Vetra either bi or lesbian.. she's bit of question mark with the math. I guess showing exact sexuality would be hard to make in way that would feel dynamic. "Hi, I'm gay." wouldn't really work. But I guess easiest way to show that there is some kind of diversity of sexualities would be simply showing different kind of NPC couples. Two husbands bickering at market, two girls having a date at bar, husband and wife talking to their kid- just similarly as trilogy had random NPCs talking about their life and stuff. Then with squadmates, crewmates and other more important characters these could be expanded a bit more. Trilogy already had some stuff like that, but mostly with human women and Asaris (I can remember just one case though).

@princeenigmatic Sorry If I didn't tag right I'm new to participating in Forums . Prince E, you seem to be feeling much less positive about MEA than you did earlier . Is it because of the leaks and what they implied about m/m content? The rating has changed since then (and given the strange criteria of ratings; Violence-acceptable, Nudity-unacceptable)that content may have changed too (it may have never been representative to begin with, a lot changes in the development period). Is it the opaqueness on the subject (romance options) from the devs? This may just be that everything isn't locked down yet and they don't want the backlash from promising something then reneging (plus the inevitable panic that this means the project is in trouble). The game industry is opening up, we all have a better chance of getting what we want then we did before don't be discouraged.

That is a fair point. Hmm.

You all realize that since that leak, the rating for MEA has gone from partial to actual nudity right? We can't jump to conclusions!

My worse case scenario is not being able to Romance Jaal, Vetra, or Cora as FRyder. I hope Kallo is romancable, but I don't have high expectations for that. -fingers crossed- Granted, I won't really be upset if my worse case scenario is a thing but I'd like one of the three more likely options I really want at least. I'm optimistic though!

Almost no one can see Bioware making Jaal gay, and they've already confirmed him as romanceable. So you're safe on that front. Now, that doesn't mean he'll have the exact content you're looking for, but it's something. As for the rest, it's up in the air right now. One thing that supports Vetra being an option for Fem!Ryder is that Sheryl Chee has never written a romance option that was for male characters only. Leliana and Isabela were bi, and Blackwall was straight. And with Leliana and Isabela, they actually preferred women slightly more. Now, that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be a situation where, say, she suddenly decided to mix it up or where her bosses told her she can't make Vetra bi/gay. Still, as her writer, she has far more control over Vetra's sexuality than a bunch of male fans hoping she's straight (and, yes, there are those that exist unfortunately).

I just want at this point Scott Ryder to be able to romance a male squadmate.
If that squadmate is Jaal, I'd be elated.
It will be tempered somewhat though if Sara gets more content than Scott though.

I'd like to think and hope Vetra is bi also. But if both straight guys and lesbian gals get to romance an alien (or aliens since we know Peebee will be), and gay guys don't (like Jaal for example being straight), then that would incense me so bad. It would be the first time I think the squad would have three bi squadmates, and all of them alien. I just hope there isn't unnecessary triggered backlash from some straight folks if there are three bi squadmates.

You all realize that since that leak, the rating for MEA has gone from partial to actual nudity right? We can't jump to conclusions! Who is jumping to conclusions? Speculatively, I think the rating going from partial to actual nudity might mean that there is more nudity in the m/m scenes to balance things out. I mean, based on the leaks, the f/m and f/f scenes couldn't have anymore nudity, so I'm thinking there might be more male nudity which caused the increased rating.

Of course it did, they added new nekkid scenes for Drack as I leaked! Who is jumping to conclusions? 95% of this thread based on completly unreliable tumblr fanfiction?
