I really like how party banter was integrated in ME3 as well. You walk around the ship, the NPCs move to different locations and you can listen to their chats or happen on them on Citadel. In DA:o I did not hear a lot of banter endings because it did not pause the game, and kicked in just when I was about to transition areas or attacked a mob, and it cut off the convo.

I always love at the start of ME3 when you just get Garrus and stuff, and you talk to him you get this cinematic conversation with investigative options and you see Shepard walk up to the side of Garrus tapping on his terminal and he goes "Shepard, what's up?" or something. I wish the whole game had been like that but with one option in the top-right of the wheel every time he has additional mission commentary where Shepard also responds. I think the reason they opted for non-cinematics so often is because if you look at their animations some of the non-cinematic animations are not hand-animated and look super bad and whenever the crew moves around they'd have to set up a new conversation angle and camera movement for that setting. I just thought it was a shame that conversation doesn't feel as much like a system with the crew as it did in ME2. There's getting to know them and listening to what they say but then there's also the sense of being in an interactive movie or TV show where the cinematography is captivating and there's also the niceness of consistency with how the interface for dialogue is always predictable. The design of ME3 was just... I am cautiously optimistic as to how they've managed the non-cinematic conversations in this one. DA:I was better than ME3 in this regard but there's a ways to go still.

To me the most memorable bit of 'party banter' was that between Javik and Liara in the Temple of Athame. Just one of the many things that made it all the more insulting, that they had to charge separately for Javik. He was obviously part of the core design; not a nice bit of extra content like, say, Zaeed.

I love the party banter in Dragon Age games, it's something that Mass Effect really needs to add more of, hoping they do so with Andromeda.

I love the party banter in Dragon Age games, it's something that Mass Effect really needs to add more of, hoping they do so with Andromeda. I agree......BUT, ME has never really been about party/squad mates, Not like Dragon Age anyway, so there likely won't be much of it.

I agree......BUT, ME has never really been about party/squad mates, Not like Dragon Age anyway, so there likely won't be much of it. While that's true, this is also the first Mass Effect game where they can really take from Dragon Age. Mass Effect 1 was done before Origins came out, Mass Effect 2 was done a month or two after Origins, and while Mass Effect 3 was released after Dragon Age 2, a lot of it was likely planned out in advance. And BioWare is kind of slow in recognizing exactly what fans want. You can look at the current state of SWTOR to see exactly what I mean. But now I think they're well aware companion interaction is something that fans want more of(hence the citadel DLC), and BioWare have come out and said that the squad mate with the least amount of dialogue in Andromeda has more than Liara had in Mass Effect 3, so that's looking good for those of us that want more banter and just more companion shit in general.

when a character as in the main character has no soul or personality how can one actually believe he or she can have a chat with others when all that is being done is someone reading a set of lines . see in the Witcher 3 Geralt had established relationships with the NPC characters and people like Yennifer and Triss who made it seem real and enjoyable . its time for Bioware to stop making play land games and make real RPG Games That's because Witcher is a novel and all the charaters already have a histoty. Geralt is not someone you made, you simply choose his path. BW games let you become the hero and shape relationships your own way. I prefer creating my own story. Don't get me wrong, I love Witcher, but it's Geralt's story, not mine. Great post. The Witcher series is a distinct entity from Bioware games. Bioware games purposefully let you create your character from the ground up. CDPR put you into the role of an existing character. There's no reason either company has to change that.

Bioware seems to have a more fleshed out PC this time compared to previous ME titles. Some will certainly complain "this is mot my Ryder", but I think having more details about your character makes better stories in the long run. If the main character really is a blank sheet, the story will likely suffer from it, look at a typical Bethesda game for example. In the TES series you know literally nothing about your character, apart from being a prisoner at the beginning, and even that feels more like a running gag by now. I really like TES, but the (main-)story definitly isn't their forte.

Great banter and fun power combos. I think I found the important bit. Different people on your team have different combos they do. I am hoping this goes without auto level up, juicy. And I say this because there was never a question of whether banter would be in the game or not because I know it will. Would like to see the PC join in on it from time to time as well.

To me, that means at least one of these things: 1) The squadmate AI is designed to execute power combos, and/or 2) The player is able to fire off squadmate abilities, as in the trilogy. Could be good news for those of us who have been concerned about that.

The basic explanation was "you will learn what your companions do when you use certain abilities so don't worry about it" or something to that effect.

I hadn't seen that - good to know, thanks. Still looking for more info before I make a purchase decision. That point worries me somewhat. Is it optional to let your companions do whatever they feel like in battle (i. e. switch it off), can you still control them to some extent or will you have to live with what the artificial "intelligence" decides? Bioware seems to go for fast paced battles, tactical pause is gone, so maybe they thought it a good idea to relieve the player from the "burden" to control party members. I don't hope so, but I wouldn't put it past them.

If you think about it, while DA:I have 3 party members, only two of them have banters together. So I think the number of squadmates you can bring on a mission shouldn't be a problem. What I'd like to see is Ryder partecipating in party banters. It could be with automated dialogues when we're driving or fighting, and with the dialogue wheel when we're on a mission or exploring.(Depends on the situation) This is one of the most important things about banters for me. I don't want a silent Ryder. This isn't entirely true. Every once in a while, a third companion may chime in when the other two are speaking. Cassandra, for example, interjects when Solas and Varric banter jokingly about how the non-humans of the group are helping resolve human problems.

will they only talk while driving or while walking/shooting enemies too? ME3 already had combat banter, so I can't see this being any different. My personal favorite is when taking Liara and Garrus to Surkesh. Shepard: Careful, there goes the next Shadow Broker. Garrus: I think he was muttering 'T'Soni' the whole time. Liara: Not funny.

The dialogue I found better than that is taking James and Javik to the mission. The comment James makes about that mission and the response from Shepard is alright. Of course for that to happen, the broker dlc has to have been completed in ME2
