Not to be that guy, but from what I've seen around them webz, there isn't much excitement surrounding MEA. Like there is this subdued cynical malaise pervading everything. I wouldn't worry about what is on the webz. I can't remember the last game that people were actually hyped about There's at least one mentioned in this very thread. Horizon Zero Dawn. I believe MEA has the "been there done that" problem. Maybe the Bioware formula is wearing thin. You really have to bring your A game when doing sequels and i feel like MEA is lacking "holy shit that looks amazing" moments. It's competent but nothing special in terms of visuals as well as story. At least that's how it's presenting itself at the moment.

Nah, still plenty of time to get the marketing going. I much prefer a concentrated marketing campaign in the month or two before launch over early previews that turn out to be quite different from the final game (DAI). Also, anyone can get a 10 hour demo, what is it, a week early? Compare that with the increasingly common tactic of holding back review copies until after launch and I'd say that shows some confidence. Horizon: Zero Dawn honestly hasn't had the best marketing either. I've watched official videos as I've spotted them on the couple gaming news sites I follow, only today did I see a preview and realise there is a variety of equipment, an inventory, and dialogue options. Honestly you must not have been keeping up with it at all then, as the first video that appeared for the game at E3 way back in 2015 showcased a variety of equipment. E3 2016 showcased the inventory and dialogue I believe. As for the OP's comparison between ME:A's marketing and Horizon: Zero Dawn's there's 1 pretty huge thing to consider with that. By all accounts Sony are majorly trying to push Horizon as their next big exclusive IP so they have been (and will continue to) funnelling in as much money as possible in order to get it over with the fans. Honestly it looks pretty damn good too.

I have to say I don't like the fact that the game is less than two months to launch and we still haven't seen uncut game play footage.

HZD, I agree, has the additional advantage of being something totally different, a totally new I.P. OMG robot dinosaurs! Whereas Mass Effect has an admittedly controversial past.

Not sure if it's been said, but we could get a pretty cool tv spot/commercial during the Superbowl #Riseup!
I know they didn't want to show too much off, but I imagine come March, there will be the online marketing, live streams, etc. for the fans/veterans and a frequent tv spot (possibly live action) on ESPN to help attract the new comers.
^^^And with the controversial past, I think the incredible graphics and future gameplay footage will scratch that itch. Maybe not for preorder sales, but after a week or two. Word travels fast if a game is good. I have a good feeling about this one.

Fallout 4 was a "Meh" game with a "meh" marketing. BioWare is adopting the same strategy. MEA may end up not being the greatest game, but I feel relatively confident it'll blow FO4 out of the water. Of course, I could give two shits about open world and crafting so that's something I'll largely ignore (unless there's some actual storytelling integrated a la TW3). The recent trailer has given me some hope since I've seen some improvements made (except for the hair). If they can get the gameplay mechanics squared away, then if nothing else it'll be fun. Still not crazy about the "privately funded" aspect of the premise since it'd be like Gates, Buffet, and 20 more of the richest across the world saying their going to take two-thousand of the best and brightest and start a colony on Mars. Not gonna happen.

Take the people who contribute the best to the initiative (or in real life, mars)

I don't care much about story spoilers or character announcements or romance related hogwash.
But I would really like to see 3 - 5 minutes of uncut gameplay - is that asking too much? I want to see how capable the AI is, how your companions act now that you can't really control them anymore. I've seen glimpses that are not encouraging in this department, like AI enemies not reacting to being shot at, enemies with rifles walking slowly towards Ryder instead of seeking cover or doing anything else remotely smart, or two robots getting dropped on top of Ryder (a ridiculous measure to deal with a single combatant) and then dying within seconds, and so on.
I need to know whether I will be playing a colorful explodey mess or a satisfying, well designed combat experience.

Take the people who contribute the best to the initiative (or in real life, mars) I think you misunderstand, the comment had nothing to do with best and brightest and everything to do with the cost and complexity of the project. It cannot be done by private investors, regardless of what Bioware writers tell you. Though given what we know about the venture, I'm not sure you could convince all of the best and brightest to sign up. You might just end up with some really bright people and a whole lot of above average ones.

I guess I did. my thought process was that scaling up the market from global to galactic, a private business owners' wealth could be astronomically higher than what we could imagine today in real life. If realistic space programs are now being funded privately, why could this not be the case when up-scaled? Hopefully the mystery behind the birth of the initiative is as clever as we are anticipating.
