Has there been anything said about the ability to craft or change out armors for your squad? Or is Bioware still stuck on that whole, "we want them to keep their unique look" bs that started in DA2?
I enjoy crafting things and customizing things very much in games like this (sometimes more than most other parts of the game lol) and quite liked that I could change my squad's armor in ME1. Then when they added armor pieces I got even more excited because I thought it was going to apply to the squad as well (it didn't). Since then, I've always hoped they'd start allowing that. I feel like I know the answer, but has anything been said?

Bleh. That's such a cop out. To use an example from another thread, what if I don't want Cora to have "boob plates" on her armor? (I don't mind boob plates, just using as an example) What if I want her in something similar to what Ryder wears? What if I want the team to look like an actual team and match? But don't worry, I can change Garrus' armor from blue to blue and tan! Much cool! Such customization!

For example I wanted to change PeeBee's attire to something that matches the lore, meaning she wears a fully sealed suit and helmet, and yet with this choice she will always just wear the pointless breather mask and possibly not even a fully sealed suit.

Exactly!! I always switch liara to her actual armor in ME3. But in ME2... there miranda is, running around in her fetish outfit with no helmet. Even mordin and grunt I didn't like taking on missions where it makes no sense for their skin to be exposed. But even aside from that... I like to make my game look and feel the way I'd like. They let you do it with the main character. So why not the squadmates??

Bioware said it is like ME2/ME3 when it comes to companion attire. Aw, really? With the introduction of crafting I was really hoping they would have it work like it did in DAI. Good compromise between customising / equipping companions and them having their own styles.

Good compromise between customising / equipping companions and them having their own styles. I didn't like the DAI system personally, since it limited the options the Inquisitor had as well and it prevented me from equipping the kind of armor I wanted the other companions to have since the armor changed.

I would like that we can have middle approach in squad mates armor/look. (between ME 1 and 2/3)
I mean that our squad mates can wear its fashion cloth (like PeeBee) on environment friendly planets and on mission which isn't high risk ones, but on planets like Mars and moons like Palaven that all squad mates must wear full combat armor and breathe equipment.
Is stupid to me when in ME 2/3 Liara/Miranda wear its sexy cloth and simple breath mask while Shepard wear full body armor & helmet.

I was hoping it would be like DA:I. Companions keep their own style, so the armor we can make for them just kind of... morphs into something they'd wear. It was the best of both worlds to me.

I don't mind not being able to craft outfits for companions. I'd just like them to actually be wearing the outfit I put them in on the ship like Mass Effect 2 and not just when they're in combat like Mass Effect 3.

I would have preffered DA:I type too. Or if it changed depending on environment. E.g. If on a forrest world your squad isn't running around in bright white and blue. But in recolored armor or a basic camo style. Or am I overthinking it?

I don't see why the companions NEED to look a certain way... their faces aren't unique enough for them to stand out? Less customization is never better imo.

But in recolored armor or a basic camo style. Or am I overthinking it? If they let you equip/craft whatever you wanted for your squadmates, you could still put them in catsuits or blue and white in a forest OR in something that makes sense like camo. It's the best of both worlds. Bioware even went that way with the old school and new school ammo being in the game!

Let me pose this question. Since there is only so much time and money to develop a game and you had to make a trade-off what would you pick, more customization armor for squad members at the cost of only having Humans and Asari or having "Iconic" set armor so you can have a Krogan and Turian squad member. I know what I would pick.

As much as I like Cora's tight fitting suit, I must agree that it's time for BioWare to let us customize our squadmates armor.
DA:I was perfect in that regard.

This thread reminds me how much pain I had to endure while retexturing squadmate armour in ME2 so I could have a squad in matching colours.
Bioware's approach post ME1 seems to have been to replace most flawed but interesting mechanics with solid but flavourless ones. All you could in ME2 to change your squadmates appearance was swap do single colour swap. In ME1 you could equip every armour that NPC could wear wheras in ME2 Shepard was by default restricted to N7 parts that were appearantly tailor made for him.

What was the flaw in the ME1 armor system, as it pertains to the squadmates? Just curious. I thought it was pretty good. It kept characters like Kaidan to light armor since he was a biotic. Ash could use medium or heavy as she was a soldier. So, it fit the classes and character's training. And you could customize. I suppose maybe it was flawed in that you couldn't craft?
