Are you guys going to be picking up the Prima Strategy Guide for Andromeda?
I'm 50/50 on it. The last time I bought one was for Inquisition and I just found out that the strategy guide left out *three* minor quests that I never got until my fourth playthrough. (Kind of defeating the point of having a guide.) I'm kind of burned out. Thankfully there's the option to buy the book or just get it digital for approximately 10 bucks which isn't that bad.
I normally rely on walkthroughs or wikis to help me make the best decision but since it's launch they won't be available. Just to put it in context, when I first played the Mass Effect trilogy (in one glorious run-through a few years ago), I managed to save everyone, get the best ending, etc, all because I had the ME Wiki to tell me that it's best to save the Rachni Queen or to tell Kelly to change her appearance.
I *don't* want to make bad decisions in Andromeda so the Prima guide seems like a no-brainer but it just seems kind of....lacking in terms of coverage. What about you guys?

I don't think I've ever bought a strategy guide for any game. Ever. lol
I prefer to find out what happens in the game on my own and let my choices be what they may (mistake or not). However, it's generally very hard to not get the best ending in bioware games, at least in my experience. Just pick the goody good options and you'll get the perfect ending (or near perfect). lol

If the guide comes with some kind of digital download item I'll get it. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

I plan on getting the Collector's Edition of the strategy guide. I love books, and that one not only comes with the guide but also special stuff like developer interviews.

I don't buy strategy guides. I play my first playthrough blind. After that I just look for a web walkthrough guide to do a complete 100% playthrough.

I think one of the only times this was proven wrong was with Kelly's death wherein the Paragon response would've gotten her killed. And I don't want to kill Kelly Also Inquisition threw us under the bus. In Inquisition, the top dialogue option isn't necessarily the one that will give you Approval points from companions. Some get approval from middle or bottom options, and sometimes they even disapprove of the top option.

BioWare games are the only ones I buy strategy guides for (well, aside from Bethesda ones). Mostly, it's something I use as sort of a checklist, to be sure I haven't missed any miscellaneous quests. They're also just something I like to collect, I suppose, as I prefer to get the hardcover editions, which can be pricey.

If you said the top option, which was something like "Well, take care of yourself." she got shot by a Cerberus death squad. If you said the bottom option, "Change your identity." she changed her name and avoided said Cerberus death squad. I'm loosely paraphrasing by the way, been a while since I've played ME3. I fell into that pitfall in one of my playthroughs.

I used to buy the guides at game stores when I was a little girl, but mostly for the artwork because I was an artist and would practice drawing the characters. I used to buy Game Fan books too and Nintendo Power. Man those were the days...

I just use the internet, mainly YouTube video guides, if I need help with something. I do the same! The only downside is, at launch, there probably won't be any reliable online walkthroughs for at least a month.

There's a free guide I use whenever I get stuck. You might have heard of it, it's called Google.
Besides, it's more interesting when I actually play the game and figure it out myself. It's not like Bioware games are Planescape: Torment where every dialogue is the equivalent of a boss fight.

Why buy a guide for tips and tricks when everyone who's going to play the game will provide them for free, both in written and video form? Youtube will have people showing you exactly how to do something and Gamefaqs will have written guides, as well as the Mass Effect wiki.

Not talking to her Not telling her to change her identity If you tell her to change her identity, then the next time you see her, you get mad when she says she was spying on you during ME2, and sending reports back to TIM, she will kill herself

I've never bothered. If I want a guide I'll use the internet, since it is almost guaranteed to be a better resource even a few days after launch. If I'm after a collector's item I'll consider the art book first.

I own exactly one guidebook, the Prima guide for the original StarCraft. I bought it out of curiosity after finishing the game for the first time, and found that it mostly stated the obvious. Thus it remained the only guide I ever bought. I much prefer to get my quests sorted out on my own...any in game success would feel cheaper to me if I looked it up.

Given that Prima has been in the "can't find their own arses without a map" level of competence when it comes to making strategy guides for the best part of two decades, I'm going to suggest that "nay" would be a decent answer. "Hell no" would be an even better one.

Nay. Prima has serious quality control issues, and I haven't used a strategy guide to find stuff or strategies in a game since the Pokemon Colosseum days. The only strategy guide I've bought in the last fifteen years was the Bloodborne guide from FuturePress, which I bought because it was immaculately put together and contained some information about the inner workings of the game that I wouldn't have access to otherwise.

Mass effect is such a great game to replay, exactly for reasons like saving everyone. If you wouldnt have read about it, you wouldnt have known it was possible. Once you found out, you would of been excited all over again to perfect your game+ run through. Guides are good, but I personally dont think they are meant for your first play through. Experiencing it blind is the best way and after you finish, going back and fishing out all the minor details creates a totally new experience. That would be the point for guides. So while I never use them, but if I did, I would only use them on my game+ play through.

i'd never go for that, it's extremely silly. don't care about the single player as i know it's going to suck and be extremely bad, mass effect is the worst game ever. i havent even decided whether ill be playing the single player

Nope. Thanks for advertising, but paying for what's available for free and is more enjoyable to figure out on your own anyway is silly.
