Imagine there was a major war your country was involved with in the past. Imagine your grandfather surrendered. Imagine that two generations later your family is STILL being penalized for what he did. Imagine you are actually an exceptional fighter and kept away from the the people of the other country (that is, they don't allow you to be around them) but the former enemy nations now get along just fine. Then end up around them for the first time. You might not take an immediate liking to them. You might need time to adjust. But if you also follow orders and set aside your prejudices...you should give that person some slack and maybe be seen as exception.

In contrast, Saren HATED humans. He sabotaged Anderson's shot at being a Spectre for that reason alone. That's taking racism to an extreme level. Ashley made a comment. Let it go.

True and I think that's before Shepard becomes a Spectre.  It's that kind of attitude, the "I'll do whatever I have to in order to get the job done" that makes Shepard a prime candidate for being a Spectre once the truth about Saren is revealed.
