Fat Turians aren't necessarily a gameplay crutch for me because I might be technically capable of playing other kits, but they're more like a psychological crutch. If I go too long without playing them I go into Turian Withdrawal, which manifests as acute psychosis.

And what's wrong with AIU + Claymore? I use that kind of set. You have to make it work. Do you think that a random pug can put a Claymore on AIU and destroy everything in sight? I don't think so.

My original gold crutch was the krogan sentinel weapons platform. I played that kit so much when I moved up due to the high health/shields and the damage of lift grenades. Following that, the GI w/ whatever.

OG crutch, same as OPs... Human Engineer with Carnifex. God I sucked.

My first decently leveled UR was the Saber, and my AJA became my crutch, and I wasn't terrible. Skipped pull, she was a biotic soldier with a defensive buff (Offensive bubble was a preposterous idea)

Crimson Vanguard explained the Falcon to me one day. It changed the entire game for me, I kinda got gud overnight, and I Falcon'd all the things. Still Falcon a fair bit, fucking hilarious gun.

Salarian Infiltrator is not my crutch. He is just the best, most complete, kit in the game, and would be the last man standing. This is not being said at gunpoint from SMR.

I'm still amazed at how little discussion the SI gets for being as good as he is, especially against Geth. TC then ED, plus PM for bosses make him virtually indestructible vs Gold competition. This is one of the easiest Gold solos in the game.

But flamer is not that broken alone, so meh. It's just sometimes very loud.

TSent, Falcon, Incendiary ammo and Chain overload. He puts the troll in "crowd control."

My other crutch is MQI with Carrier and Incendiary Ammo. Also Human Adept with Acolyte or TSol with Piranha/Eagle.

I kinda wish this thread was Platinum specific. Otherwise just about anything is a crutch.

That's a good question, I don't remember what I used to transition to Gold.
