Just only really checked the first page...19sec vid, or have I missed something... That's a trailer-trailer. It's a trailer advertising tomorrow's trailer. What!? Ah screw it, I'm going to bed.

So another Scott trailer? Not saying this is you, but here's the situation we're in: Scott trailers: "Waaaaaaah they're showing Scott again! They said they'd be fair to both sexes by showing Sara!" Sara trailers: "Waaaaaah Sara's face looks weird!"

From the looks of the gameplay trailer, it looks like they are going for a 3rd person version of Destiny's combat. I'm completely okay with that since Destiny excelled in the combat department and blew dick in the story department. The powers are even assigned to L1, R1, and L1+R1 much like the grenade, melee and supers for Destiny. The jet pat and dodge is assigned to X, weapon swap I think is triangle (it would make sense to have holster and weapon swap on the same button. you press to swap and hold to holster), melee most likely circle, reload is square, sprint is L3, and I think the weapon wheel will be one of the d pad buttons considering less squad control As a hardcore Destiny player a Mass Effect game that has similar controls would be just dandy for me.

I'm still confused everyone is talking about how ugly Sara is instead of admitting it's because the animations in the TGA trailer is what made her look like ass. She looks totally fine, just a bit perky and as if she's got spunk, but any real game footage thus far has showed a woman with soulless eyes and a "Why so serious" grimace and there is something seriously wrong with the mouth animation system they've created in the "All I see are the bodies they left behind" and "Just tell me where I can find him and there won't be any trouble" lines. Also her eye tracking fucks up in one line in the TGA trailer.
They have to have polished and iterated on the entire tech behind the animations as well as improved the animation by hand. It's not good enough when her eyebrows don't even move. There's zero emotion on her face without proper eye-eyebrow movement, and her mouth is too wide whenever she talks. That's what they need to fix.

In fairness the combat system for ME3 was pretty much the same as in the rest of the trilogy so it probably wasn't needed. MEA's power and combat system looks like it's going to work differently so answers are needed to be fair this time. Errr, I'd argue the series saw considerable iteration in terms of combat. ME1 was a total mess, ME2 was too stripped down. It was ME3 that took ME2's system and majorly refined it until we finally had a combat that could stand on its own, and not be just a shooting gallery on the way to the next cutscene. As far as I'm concerned anyways. And from what I heard of it, Andromeda takes a lot of cues from ME3, with the changes mostly coming from the classless system. Seems to me the transition is going to be a lot smoothe than from ME1 to ME2, for instance, albeit we'll know more tomorrow. I was referring to how you select and use your combat abilities that didn't really change at all throughout the trilogy Yes ME3 had MP but SP in terms of powers and how you used and activated them was more or less the same all the way through

I have issues with my left thumb IP dislocating very, very easily. It hurts like a mf-er using it to depress things in that way, regardless of dislocation or subluxation. Is this a confirmed MEA mechanic? If so, what can I do? They gotta use something. They can't design the controller layout for the minority of gamers who dislocate joints. Not confirmed. Mostly speculation from watching the gameplay video. The powers are right as you could see the button allocations. I'm guess the sprint is L3 because I know the Jet pack is allocated to X or the old sprint button. Given the combat is in more wide open areas and you need to be able to control the camera (right analog) and sprint to be fluid and accurate. The ability to take cover is also just by pressing forward on the analog stick so having the movement, sprinting, and cover all in place also makes it more fluid so you can still sprint into cover. I could be completely wrong but that's my speculation. I'm sure they'll have alternate controls.

My biggest gripe from the original trilogy was the way eyes looked or moved around kinda mechanically. Games like the Uncharted series really nailed this believably, I hope ME:A gets it right.

Hahaha, don't count on it bro. Uncharted is choreographed to a T. Mass Effect has to account for multiple versions of every cutscene and BioWare's animators are of message-board tryouts quallity sometimes. They use full performance capture but eye movement is still done by hand and not well from anything so far. Eye-movement was a problem but it was worse in ME3 than ever before and pretty terrible in DA:I as well. They often turn their head without relocating their focus so they make strange skeptical looks when they're not supposed to.

What other parts...like the plot? I feel they have given us a lot of the story and anymore would ruin the experience, haha. Though character creation would be nice! Character creation, dialogue, weapon/armor customization, colony setup and expansion, crafting, etc. It's safe to say you speak for everyone.

In ME1 only one power was hotkeyed to the controller and you absolutely had to use the power wheel. In subsequent games there were three hotkeyed powers and it sounds like lots of players primarily focused on three 'go-to' powers without resorting to the wheel. This approach was reinforced by MP, which is apparently (and sadly) why Bioware have now scrapped the wheel altogether.

That's what they need to fix. Agreed. Everyone keeps throwing up disingenuous smoke screens every time it's brought up, though. Someone says the rendering is ass, and they're accused of shallow sexism. It's pretty asinine. The fact is that BioWare chose to cast a woman most would describe as sexy. This isn't really important. The relevant fact is that their rendering of this model looks nothing like the model, nor very lifelike. Scott looks pretty much like his model, I think, and more lifelike. Will Sara look terrible in game? I don't know. These pics for character kits, and the like, are terrible. In-game scenes look much better. Either way, it won't matter, since I have the CC to adjust her appearance to my tastes. I've never used the prerendered female lead when offered a CC. I only used Sheploo because his textures were untouchable, and I liked his look.

I hope they switch between Scott and Sara for the combat trailers too.
As for combat mechanics, I'm crossing my fingers that, if you specialized in powers from one profile (like, say, Soldier), that you aren't more limited than someone who goes between multiple profiles. Not eager about being limited to three active abilities (+ the profile special ability), but maybe the different "firing" options they talked about will make it feel less limited.

Alternate control schemes are confirmed so yeh won't be an issue.

Most games only seem to have a couple of preset layouts that are reasonably intuitive. L3 will be used for something, regardless of the scheme. If it's an action that only needs to be done out of combat - like scanning or weapon holstering, for instance - then that might work.

After projectpatdc mentioned the issue, and PermTrouble pointed me toward Xbox One's Elite Controller, I started reading. I'd forgotten that I'd done controller research for this very reason (EDS-HT joint issues) back in December. I even had a discussion about it here with Hrungr and a couple of other guys. Duh. Anyway, the "official" PS4 pro controllers look to suck in comparison with the XB1 Elite, but there is still Scufs. Those controllers are very nice. I'd zeroed in on them, previously. Regardless of how the devs program the button layout, you can simply remap the buttons on the Scufs controllers (assuming you buy that feature). I might need to go this route. I'll probably contact them, or nab a schematic online, to comfirm L3 is remappable. I'm glad this came up, again. Thanks again, PermTrouble, for mentioning the elite controller. I put this off a few months ago because I had time; but now I'm almost out of time.
