Yes that is a good point, but if you're writing a story you always have to be careful with how you name your characters. You don't just give one of the squadmates the same name as one of the main villans. For all we know, Arterius (Sarens last name) could be a common turian name and if Vetras last name was "Arterius" instead of "Nyx" people would instantly think they are involved somehow. 
My point is, when writing a story don't give two important chraracters the same surname, even if it is a extremely common surname, unless these two characters are indeed related. 

I find it funny how people expect bioware to be consistent and to provide a logical story that explains things like cora's surname and the presence of the hornet while staying true to the lore and the timeline. I find it funny how people expect plausible and consistent explanations from the same company who brought us mass effects 1, 2 and 3. The entire story of mass effect so far has relied solely on plot holes, major inconsistencies and the worst writing that I've ever seen in any medium.
