Do we actually get any information about how their marriage went? I don't recall.
You can find a letter in the Vizima palace courtyard that mentions her briefly. The content in the letter was about someone trying to revive her curse, however I don't remember it saying anything about her marriage, it's unfortunate but Cd projeckt kind of fails at choice carry over. Anyway, killing mad Rad is probably doing her a favor because I have a feeling that any wife of his wouldn't grieve for him all that much. The one I really wanted to know more about was Anaïs La Valette and I don't think there was one line in the game mentioning her fate.

Although CDPR didn't invent the concept, I think they perfected it to make entry into a massive open world less intimidating, as well as introducing the player to extensive lore. I've noticed other devs follow suit. If only BioWare would've put their bullshit aside and start putting quality and substance on their games.

I'm close to the end of my Witcher marathon. Only the last part of Heart of Stone's main quest and the endgame of the main game are left.
Unsurprisingly, I found again that TW3 is the best game in the series in many aspects, including combat mechanics and the huge amount of high-quality content in character interaction, while TW2 was superior in main story weight within the game - TW3 had too much optional stuff, to the point that I left many places in Skellige's outlying islands unexplored because I simply couldn't be bothered especially considering that sirens were everywhere. Considering that I'm usually an obsessive completionist (and did explore everything everywhere else), that's saying something. I think I did all the side quests and contracts, but likely missed a few treasure hunts in Skellige.
What was really susprising is how much better TW2 looks in direct comparison. In general, TW2's graphics were too effects-intensive in places, to the point that it sometimes looked artificial, mostly because of overdone light reflection, but TW3 removed so much of that that the overall effect was detrimental, especially noticeable in character faces and vegetation. Most noticeably in vegetation, TW2 looks *way* better than TW3, which is really damning considering how much you look at the green stuff in TW3. As an example, I might mention the rose vines in Corvo Bianco's garden compared to the rose vines in TW2's elven baths. The former look flat and unappealing in comparison. I heard the damnable idea of "console parity" being blamed for this. I don't know if it's true, but it only makes me more determined to never buy one of those quality-destroying machines.
I think I'll post more after I'm through. So far I have seen no reason to rescind my opinion that this trilogy is one of the best game sequences that exist. One would wish, at times, for a little more roleplaying freedom, but then you should know what you're getting into with Geralt before you start playing. It's not exactly a secret that he's more defined than most protagonists in games of this kind that still aspire to the roleplaying genre.

Ieldra Interesting! I haven't replayed W2 since I first played it on Xbox but for sure the texture quality of vegetation and other things in W3 is quite poor close up. DAI has WAY better textures. CDPR put the most emphasis on armor. They look amazing even close up. In DAI not quite as much. The bigger a map, the more you have to sacrifice visual quality for performance. Most people don't inspect flowers too closely, so it's not a big loss. It's noticeable, however. I modded the shit out of my Skyrim, mostly textures, so I pay attention to texture quality. Most people don't and prefer a stable frame rate over how the game renders an apple. *g* W2 is one of those games I've meant to replay for years because I never got to see the Roche path. But I'm the kind of person who likes the new and shiny too much to replay a familiar story. Sooo I've been putting it off. Doubtful I'll ever get round to it. So do you maybe have comparison screenshots?

So do you maybe have comparison screenshots? I don't have comparison screenshots, but I researched this to see if others shared my impressions, and found this video:
You can easily see what I meant with "overdone light reflections" in TW2, but at the same time shadows in TW2 are way more detailed and this results, among other things, in a better impression of depth. Also there's significant loss of detail in TW3, most noticeably with Zoltan at 01:45 in the video. I'll try to get some comparison screenshots of the rose vines I mentioned, but unfortunately the elven bath can't be revisited and I don't know whether I have an appropriate save.
I might try TW3 again with one of the big graphics mods that are still being maintained - as opposed to you, I tend to stick with few games through several replays, rather than moving on fast to the next shiny thing, thereby playing more games but less intensively - but only after I upgraded my PC. Fps when moving fast in open areas, such as galloping fast with your horse, was about 35-40 most of the time, which is borderline.

Thanks, Ieldra! Woah, that is excessive bloom in W2! W3's lighting is a far cry from the demo but I assume it just wasn't feasible for the average consumer market. As it is, the game is taxing enough on a good rig. Shadows are the most demanding variable, so it's not surprising that most open world games don't have real grass shadows. Bethesda games notoriously have almost no shadows on many many objects. Once you notice it's SO weird! But install a mod that unlocks realistic shadows and the frame rate goes ooout the window, lol. I was quite disappointed with W3's graphics at first coming off DAI which to this day remains the prettiest game to me. The art style of DAI is gorgeous. W3 in comparison looks boring. Blood and Wine finally brought an amazing art style to the game. Loved it! On the other hand, W3 has some of the best storm effects. And overall W3 is the most perfect game I've ever played. So they struck a pretty good balance between visuals and gameplay. As for my gaming habits, I don't rush games at all. In fact, I don't play many games. I spent over 700 hours with FO4, on one savefile. I literally played nothing else for a year. I take my time with games I like, especially open world games. But because I spend so much time with a game, I don't ever want to play it again. I'm burned out of any open world game by the time I'm done with them. Now, Mass Effect and Dragon Age I've replayed several times. But those are relatively short games and an exception. I've never replayed an open world game. I love W3 so much and didn't want it to end. And I WANT to return to that world constantly to relive that amazing adventure. But in my experience it's best (for me) to just treasure the memory and move on.

I usually feel I've exhaused one playthrough at 200 hours, even in open-world games like Skyrim. What are you doing with all that time? My latest TW3 playthrough was about 130 hours including both expansions. I like to do variations on quests and difficulty, I use mods (though less so in TW3), and I also like to revisit stories big and small, for me it's like re-reading a book I like with some variation.

There are also these sickly-sweet bright colors. Unpleasant, though it comes across as dry rather than humid (which is, btw, good for the wine) and so isn't nearly as hellish as tropical weather. I do like rain and I love DAI's Storm Coast, but for long playing sessions I prefer it clear, simply because you can see better, which is also my RL preference but only if it's also cold (or at least cool) and windy. In TW3, that would be a fair day in Skellige. The rainstorms in TW3 lose appeal by the fact that you have to ride through them, rather than being able to sit at a window and enjoy them without actually being in them, as in RL.

Y'all basement dwellers or what?! I don't want that depressing German rainy shit weather in my games!!! I can't take direct sun in the summer for long because my skin burns within 15 min but I LIKE the sun. Gloomy weather really affects my mood. German winter makes me actually depressed sometimes. Hate coming home from work and it's already night. Hate not seeing the sun at all for weeks. I haaaaaate rainy days. I'm like a lizard, I need a lot of warmth to feel good. The air conditioning in the office turns my fingers white. Ugh. I hate being cold so very much and I feel cold quickly soooo... I do not like extreme heat (obviously not used to it) so when I visited a friend in Arizona some years back I was VERY surprised how much I enjoyed the desert and sandstone formations. The light in that area is just wow. How it illuminates the rocks. The blue blue sky every day. Walking between sandstones was the most peaceful soothing almost religious experience in my life. Sure, I was sweating like crazy but that's OK. Not sure exactly why that landscape and the light has such an effect on me but it was downright magical. I was so very happy. I even hiked in Death Valley (in October, mind you) and it was super interesting. Then I compared the photos to the ones from trips to Austria and HOLY SHIT is it DARK here in central Europe!!! Even on a sunny day, the light is completely different. And it hit me... Germany is vanilla Skyrim!!! Dark. Depressing. GODAWFUL. Got myself a nice ENB eventually and finally enjoyed some blue skies with a soft filter. The first ENB I used had a blue tint. UGH. Blue tint is THE WORST. Makes everything seem cold... I like yellow or red tints. Sony TV's with their very obvious yellow tint are perfect for me. *g* Anyway, as for what I do in FO4? I build settlements!!! I have a YT channel too where I show them off. I spend between 20-50 hours building ONE settlement, so... uhhhh... yeah...

Y'all basement dwellers or what?! I don't want that depressing German rainy shit weather in my games!!! I guess you haven't followed the weather reports from central Europe for a few months. Weeks of sunny days with 14+ hours of sunshine. No rain at all for ten weeks, and for 16 weeks in some regions. Desert temperatures up to 39°C. It's been absolutely horrible. Stepping out of a house felt like a hammer blow to the head until two days ago, and you could go to bed without any clothing or cover and it was still so warm that you had to drink two litres of water during the night which mostly left through your skin. I want that "depressing rainy shit weather" back!!! At least you could breathe. A basement dweller I'm only if it's too warm. But back to The Witcher: I finally finished my Witcher marathon. All three games in sequence, importing each time. Again TW3 was by far the most satisfying experience, in spite of some lengths as I explored everything I didn't need and then some, and not all of that was interesting. The last part of the TW3 main quest has a sequence of really memorable moments, and it was sad to leave the story behind at the end, similar to finishing a favorite book. I wonder what ending people find most satisfying. I have now seen both of the good endings, and I think I prefer the Nilfgaard ending for Ciri. The goodbye at the end feels like she's finally stepping out from under Geralt's shadow and going her own way, which I didn't feel to the same degree in the Witcher ending, and while it was overall more emotionally mixed, it was more satisfying for me. Also, it was nice to see Yen and Geralt relaxing at Corvo Bianco. I don't believe for a second she'll refrain from engaging in politics again for long - you don't have that kind of power and leave it unused - but now she's not driven by necessity. Of course Nilfgaard won the war again in this playthrough. I like Emhyr - he's a hard man, I guess you have to be as an emperor, but he's neither unnecessarily cruel for this world nor does he support religious and racial persecution like Radovid did, or let it flourish like Djikstra would. Of all optional actions, killing Radovid was probably the most satisfying in TW3 for me. I may have one more game of TW3 in me, since there are aspects I still haven't explored that deeply and I like the world, but that'll have to wait until I have a new computer and install a few more mods.

Ieldra Since we both live in Germany I believe, I too experience that "awful" heat spell. My apartment heats up to over 30 degrees in such weather if I turn on the PC. But since I live next to the forest it also cools down enough for me to be quite comfortable at night (at 27 degrees). I still cover myself with a blanket... Germans are never happy with the weather, it's a cliche that's actually true. I don't have a problem with this summer. In fact overall I much prefer it to our usual rainy summers. It's a disaster for our farmers, however. So that sucks. But the way people complain here as if it's a torture chamber, ridiculous! I don't think I drink more than usual. I don't particularly sweat when I'm not moving around much at home. So no need. I do stay inside until the sun goes down too and then take a walk later than usual. And I'm more tired than usual from the heat. But I'm not suffering. Anyway, I got the bad ending because some of those triggers made no sense to me. And it was so DEVASTATING. I felt awful for weeks. It's still painful for me I failed so hard. I think part of the reason I made the wrong choices was my reading progress of the novels. At the time I was in total protect little Ciri from those nasty sorceresses mode. Literally everybody Ciri comes across in the novels up to a point abused her. So I expected this to be the case in the game as well. So I guess I was playing an overprotective parent... *sigh* I watched the other endings on YT and much prefer the witcher ending. Emhyr like all the kings is an awful human being if you ask me. He wanted to marry his own daughter and impregnate her, hello?! He is not as bad as Radovid though, that's correct. And he does have a shred of decency. Some sort of honor, and at the end of the book series it's this bit of humanity that let's Ciri go... Ironically in the game I made Ciri meet him because it should be her choice and THAT is also kind of a bad thing. What?! Ugh. I suppose one could say the Nilfgaard ending is the one where Ciri sacrifices happiness for the good of the people. So that's not a bad ending at all. A just ruler will always have to give up their own dreams in the service of others to a degree. But after all they went through, especially with regard to the books, they damn well deserve to be together at last as a family. No obligations. Ciri saved the world, she already saved all those ungrateful awful people. About time she got to do something for herself. So if I were to replay I'd aim for the witcher ending.

I wonder what ending people find most satisfying. The first playthrough was most satisfying and my favorite. It's very sad and moving, Geralt fighting for the last time, fighting monsters. Though I like the one where Geralt and Ciri are sitting on log and talk because Ciri lives and Geralt and Yenn are happy.
Also thought the combat was the best in W3, it seemed more fluid and seemless. Though I miss the skill and attribute screen from W1. What was it about the combat in W3 that made it better for you?
Combat was more fluid in TW3, more tolerant of mistakes, and most of all: there were no QTEs. Details:
I felt I could move more freely and was less bound by the movement sequences that were part of the attack moves. As a result, I never quite got the hang of evading in TW2 but I can do that quite well in TW3.
Also, TW2 had a very steep learning curve, I recall having serious trouble even finishing the combat tutorial. Meanwhile, in TW3 that only happens on higher difficulty settings. The wolf packs took some learning in the beginning, and fights against elementals are not tolerant of mistakes, which is especially annoying since they take so long, but other than that, I did ok even as an inexperienced player. Generally, if I remember to take my time and be patient, I can fight quite well in TW3. If I died it was most often because I wanted to finish the fight too fast, get another hit in and risking to be hit, and then actually getting hit one time too many. So in TW3, if I failed I often knew I could do better by being patient, with comes much more easily to me than having to be ultra-fast and precise.
I should mention, though, that this does not apply to Blood & Wine. Almost all the new enemies there are extremely annoying to fight, I came close to cheating with the witch in the fairy tale country, and I couldn't win against Detlaff at all, even on Easy, without cheating.

Ieldra Since we both live in Germany I believe, I too experience that "awful" heat spell. [...] But the way people complain here as if it's a torture chamber, ridiculous! It *was* a torture chamber for me, I'm just that kind of person. You'll never hear me complain about rain or cold, except in a lighthearted offhand manner if I'm forced to go out in a rainstorm or blizzard. Things like that are why I keep saves at several points in the main story. It might just be that I don't want to replay the whole game, but want to see alternative endings. The key point for choosing between the gooding endings is at the aftermath of the Kaer Morhen battle, when you are behind the castle and go down to confer with the others. On the path towards the good ending you'll get the snowball scene then, immediately followed by the decision to go to the emperor or not. I did mention I like the witcher ending too, right? Both good endings are very satisfying, and Ciri has certainly more enduring freedom in the Witcher ending.

Both good endings are very satisfying, and Ciri has certainly more enduring freedom in the Witcher ending. I would have had to replay about ten hours I think to undo the damage. It was so stupid too. I knew the second the Emhyr scene about the money played out that this was baaad. But I had no idea it would be what screwed Ciri over... I mean, I didn't even know that there were triggers like that. Ciri seemed to forgive and she was back to being best pals with Geralt after that. Didn't seem unhappy at all. And I didn't think much of that incident anymore. I even figured Emhyr would turn the money situation against Geralt but I did it anyway, curious what exactly would happen. Then literally out of nowhere at the end Ciri is all sad that Geralt never understood and believe din her and I was like "WHAAAAT?! Where is this coming from???". I encouraged her all the time in other scenes that happened to not matter... Only when I ended up with that horrific ending did I read up on those five triggers and went "THAT mattered?!?!". I messed up the Emhyr scene (knowingly) and the one about the temper tantrum (I'm just not a person who vents physically so I didn't encourage it, seeing no point to it) and spied on Ciri's meeting with The Lodge (being in paranoia mode FOR GOOD REASON!). How Ciri superwoman loses confidence over some of these things is beyond me but whatever. I fucked up. I live in shame ever since...

This is exactly the ending I got (except for Skellige. I sided with Cerys).
I have no regrets whatsoever.
First time I played it blind. I messed up in the snow ball fight and got Ciri Drunk instead and I chose to go with Ciri to talk with the mages. I got all the other ones right though. I even took her to see Emhyr.

Feels kinda bad to not take her to Emhyr despite some of the stuff he's done to her and her grandmother. The game presents him in a somewhat changed light where he seems to want what's best for her and step aside. I really wish the endgame state would be permanent until NG+ as I'd like to still see Ciri and see how Temeria and Novigrad have changed. In my latest playthrough though I kept her from Emhyr and made sure she became a Witcher.
While I like Skellige's views, I'm not much of a fan of its monsters, especially sirens. Those things creep me the fuck out. The mountains are also a pain to navigate as well. Toussaint is definitely my favorite when it comes to the opposition and navigation.

eh, I could never feel bad for not taking Ciri to see Emhyr. He's caused too much damage and I feel if he really changed and wanted what was best for Ciri and not himself or his legacy, he'd stay faaar away. This is just my opinion though, so I'm not trying to attack how anyone feels about it. I just can't get the books out of my head and they're probably the reason why she'll always end up as a witcher in my games. I will admit though, if I can ever overlook the books, the Empress ending is very emotional and beautifully done. *snip* Ironically in the game I made Ciri meet him because it should be her choice and THAT is also kind of a bad thing. What?! Ugh. Although it's been a while since I've played the Witcher 3, doesn't Geralt tell her that " the emperor wanted you found", and doesn't Ciri say that "yen mentioned something about it"?
The way I justified her not meeting Emhyr as her own choice was if yen already told her and she really wanted to meet him, then she would've of told Geralt so. When Ciri asks for Geralt's opinion I don't believe he actually tells her not to go, he says " the emperor has plans for her" which is true and that "she wouldn't look good in black". So I felt like she made the decision not to go on her own really.
I may not be remembering correctly though and it might just be my mental gymnastics kicking in.

How Ciri superwoman loses confidence over some of these things is beyond me but whatever. I fucked up. I live in shame ever since... Yeah, the decisions don't all make sense to me either, but you don't have to get them all right. I think you need two of the four going right. I think in my first game, I told her to calm down in the lab but did the others as required. BTW, if you encourage her to express her anger, the funniest moment is after you see Yennefer leaving. She was standing there all the time having that "children!" expression on her face but after she leaves you can see she defaced Avallac'hs picture while no one was watching That woman really reveals a number of unexpected traits along the way.
BTW, going with Ciri to the Emperor is not a bad thing, it's just a requirement for the Empress ending. However, there are additional requirements for the Empress ending, since you have unlock the "Reason of State" quest after you get Ciri back (don't tell Dijkstra anything and you won't get it) and later in that quest side with Roche against Dijkstra. If you meet all the requirements for a good outcome for Ciri but don't qualify for the Empress ending I think you'll always get the Witcher ending.
As for the rationale for going to see Emhyr, the decision feels somewhat offhand to me as it comes up, so I have no trouble either choosing it or not. If I don't, I put it down to "we have more important things to do now, we'll go see Emhyr later".

I remember in one of my play-throughs when I went to save Phillipa from the bathhouse, I was irritated with Dijkstra so I picked the option that said "Push him aside forcefully". I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't think Geralt would go full Rambo on his ass breaking his leg...I also didn't know at the time that it would stop me from getting the quest reason of state.
