Yes. Very yes. I definitely believe that this game was designed specifically to push capitalism on the world. Thats the only reason this game exists. How dare anyone insinuate anything different.

This runs really deep... I hear you even have to exchange currency with a corporation to even get the game.

please no compare the game with real life, it's based in space in the future!
it's about exploring the unknown and fin new home, after escaping a war
radical marxist? marxism wanted to conquer te world too, "Workers of the world, unite!" communist rulers were/are dictators
the humans are escaping and exploring, wether the Tempest, no the Nomad have weapons, and i thnk the Arks have no weapons either, and the pathfinders are no soldiers! and there only army is a krogan army (Drack)
in the unknown planets there are far more advanced civilizations, and there is enough room for everyon in space!
as already stated: we come in peace

I don't think it can really be regarded as imperialism if the balance of power is very clearly with the natives.
Can you imagine the first intense hypothetical conversation between our MW representatives and local Andromedan leaders? The outcome of which could very well result in open war:

Speaking of Marxism and what later gave birth to the Soviet Union, I think we should all consider the abilities of the historically most produced fighting vehicle, the T-55 main battle tank. Curiously, not even the Soviets know how many they have built!

So....a bunch of guys from a predominant galactic power travel to uncharted locations to build colonies, mine resources, and kill the native population. Gee, why does that sound familiar? It sounds very much like empire-building when the Europeans decided to conquer the world by invading other nations, ultimately impoverishing them, and building settlements all over. It was a race for these countries on who can build the most and who can build the fastest. Conquest wasn't always military-based; trade-embargoes, political sabotage, and cultural/religious dominance was also the name of the game. As a radical Marxist, I find it unsettling to find a game celebrating themes of dominance, invasion, and conquest. All because the Galactic council supports and promotes the idea of colonization and capitalism, now the entire universe will be enslaved. Do you believe that Mass Effect promotes capitalism? HALT! One thing at a time: Most of the world that was not Europe didn't have nations as we understand the term today - they were, comparatively, primitive tribals and that's why they lost and why a (relatively!) tiny country like Great Britain could annex most of the world and form a fucking Empire! Secondly: WE DO NOT - YET - KNOW WHO FIRED FIRST! If they did then I have no problem gunning them down (!), just like I hope you can put an end to the people who rebelled and left the Nexus (I don't want to kill them, but in a survival situation I have no time for their supposed problems! Those can be addressed once survival of the colonists has been asured and then I will be the first to offer them some support (more if I agree with what they are complaining about!)) greetings LAX ps: I find Marxism (Communism) as unsettling as you find unrestrained Capitalism (!) - I think you need to restrain/regulate capitalism (give people equal chances, make sure the rich don't control and own everything and run government etc. and make sure their kids are better educated etc.), but otherwise capitalism (which is a form of meritocracy IMHO) is the best system we know (Communism works against human nature, that's why it will never work - unless you want to genetically condition people or something...look at Cuba, China and the Soviet Union: In neither of those states did communism actually work, especially since you have "THE PARTY" that controlls everything and gives members additional bonuses like say a car made in (West-)Germany or some Levis Jeans etc. etc.) ps: I hate radicals - can't discuss stuff with them because they aren't open to changing their minds

T-55, however, has an estimate of 90-100 thousand built between all variants.

It is a fair question. I think it has been answered in the negative quite well.... The comment that really hit it for me was the size of the invading force.... It is an invading force without backup, without numbers.... They can outrun us and outgun us, there is no chance for victory by arms.
Logic would have answered the OPs question, but that isn't taught in schools. Troll maybe, but it was an interesting thought and provided some discourse without getting too absurd.

I don't believe it promotes it, but I fully expect of BioWARE to explore the morality aspect of the Colonialism and the Empire-Building. It might go even earlier in time, to any period you want, any conquest. I am sure that despite the absence of the Para-Rene choices, that the evil choices would include the scorched Earth policy and putting down the insurrection by the native populations, while the "good guy" options would be very sci-fi, something we have never seen in actual human history, under any ideology at the helm, a peaceful migration and expansion.

Would it really matter? How many other games have that theme? Dozens! But this game is about hope, peace and working together for a new world, so I highly doubt it. However The Archon is not an actual baddie like Corypheus, so he might see it that way.

Before reading the rest of the thread, a thing I wrote on another (predominantly non-gaming) forum a few days ago: "I wonder if this base-building stuff is just that you can found a settlement in a suitable area, and that's about it. Since you're the pathfinder, and finding a suitable place to settle is the whole point. I don't think it's going to be Fallout 4 stylee, but I could be wrong. Maybe it'll be somewhere in between: you found a settlement, and you have to do quests to get a stable water supply, to placate nearby raiders, to give the indigenous community smallpox, etc." Heh.
