But I thought they improved the cooling if not over the original 1080 than certainly over the 980...? And with the 980s I was running 2 (I would expect that two cards generate more heat than one).....?

Curious though....my 980s barely pushed 50 even when gaming...Now my new 1080 idles at 40 and after only 10 minutes of gaming in DAI in what is essentially an open-air test bench (the HAF EVO XB Lan Box)..my card is spinning at 67 degrees. Is that normal? Is that 'hot'? Normal. You won't see any real degradation in performance until the card hits 85-90 degrees, at which point it'll start slowing itself down so it doesn't overheat.

Good evening, Pearl and thank you for your reply. I suppose with the new asynchronous fan design and the improved heat dissipation, the new 1080ftw2 is good at 'self regulating'....It knows when it feels too hot and how/when to cool itself down. I'm also impressed at the speed with which the temps drop (currently my temp measuring program is SpeedFan v 4.51) mot sure how well this lines up with the temps in the bios though, sometimes those are different. But thanks again for your post. Curious, what's your take on the 1080Ti? Having just bought and received the FTW2 (and ordering from EVGA at $1.35 CDN plus Duty and Taxes wasn't cheap lemme tell you)....I am utterly amazed at the performance of this new card. And I can see where the Ti is even more of an improvement--but at the rate I just talked about....you're looking at between 1500 and 2000 to start (for what I assume is simply a FE/Reference card). That's a hefty price tag. I think I'll stick with my FTW2...But what's your nickel's worth?

However, if you decide you really want to have a 1080 Ti, look into EVGA's Step Up program, where you send EVGA your current card and a check for the difference in price between the two, and they send you the upgrade that you request from them. It sounds like you might qualify, but ultimately the decision is yours. Personally, I would wait for the card to be released so reviewers and users alike can run benchmarks on it, and see exactly how it compares to the regular 1080. Keep in mind that the card was only announced last night, so we don't know exactly when companies like EVGA will be able to release their own versions of it.

Any word yet on FPS cap? While minor in regards to game purchasing decision it can have a factor on people upcoming build decisions. Ive tweeted with no response. Not sure if any of these accounts are yours, but Aaryn Flynn tweeted a reply. "You are not framerate locked on PC"Not me while great news to hear. I have been annoyed with the cap while replaying the trilogy.

Not me while great news to hear. I have been annoyed with the cap while replaying the trilogy. That tweet doesn't say much other than the game not having a locked framerate on PC; said nothing in relation to whether or not there's pre-rendered cutscenes or their framerates.. I don't care what framerates pre-rendered cutscenes may or may not run at, just as long as there's multiple resolutions for them so you don't get washed out 720p videos when playing on anything not 720p.

Thank you. I'll look how it runs and hope for the best. Thank you, I hope it's like that than and 50fps would be alright. Could the 8GB RAM be a Problem?? It's just a little hard to say before we get the game. The 970 card you have is still very strong for 1080p. I wouldn't be surprised if it ran 1080p 60 at ultra, but that's hoping it runs as well as battlefield 1 I definitely wouldn't advise buying any new hardware before trying that origin access trial. Your pc is still good I''ll try the origin acces trial than, thank you.

Goodbye my AMD Radeon HD 7700 card. You have served me faithfully through two computer builds but it's time to upgrade. Rest in peace. I went ahead and bought a Gtx 1070 Gaming X 8G card today. Can't wait to install it! That... ... is what I call an upgrade.

T__T
My laptop was screaming with Inquisition (GTA V runs fine). - i5 4210H - GTX 850M 2Gb - 8Gb DDR3 800MHz - Plus some shitty hard drive.
The only upgrade that seems reasonable is a couple of 8Gb 1600MHz RAM modules. But that means £100. Do you think it would make any difference?

I don't think you'll see much if at all of a performance bump, but you may try running at 720p, or 900 depending on your display The gpu is what's holding you back, and while more ram is good, I wouldn't suggest spending the money for this box. Take a look at some youtube vids of people running that same gpu in battlefield 1, and hopefully that'll give you some kind of idea with your settings

I'm going to see how this game runs on a 560ti and an i3-550; this is what my sister is rocking in her computer, so I'm going to try it for shits and giggles. And then gamefly it for her on PS4 when it runs horribly.

I'd say medium to high settings depending on how well optimised it is, its recommended specs are similar to Battlefield 1 so try searching your specs on that game to get a general idea and to zered, do you know if it's the Radeon 7870 or the 7850? Either way the GPU is bare minimum required, the only weakness is the APU although I'm not entirely sure of its capabilities.

throw a few ultra settings in the mix, know I am going to try for this.
