So is it even worth it to go from 8 to 16? Like I don't really notice a performance issue. But I do want to upgrade my GPU and thought that it would be helpful there. It'll be useful as games continue to get more and more resource-hungry in the future, but if 8 isn't causing any problems, I would not prioritize it over upgrading other components first, if that makes sense. For example, in my case, I'll definitely be upgrading to 16 (or maybe even 32 if I can snag a kit on sale) when I build my next PC since I'm running into some issues when trying to multitask on 8. That said I have a lot more applications open than most people, so it's not really a surprise.

Not for DDR3, no. Generally upgrading RAM isn't something you do to increase the performance of your system (although with newer CPUs that use DDR4, it can have a more pronounced effect than it has in the past), rather it's something that's done when your current amount of RAM is no longer sufficient for what you want to do. So is it even worth it to go from 8 to 16? Like I don't really notice a performance issue. But I do want to upgrade my GPU and thought that it would be helpful there. If you're not doing rendering, video editing, and all of that stuff or running a ridiculous amount of mods, there's no reason to over 8GB of RAM unless you have a lot of Chrome/Firefox tabs open while you game.

Thanks! A 16gb (2x8) kit only runs like $150 CAD for me so I'm probably going to go that way. Seems the most straight forward. What is your current CPU, MB and GFX? And do you OC? Not sure if this has relevance for you, but might as well share it: Is it time to upgrade your i5 2500k?If you're on a Sandy Bridge like me, I'd recommend G.Skill TridentX 2133 CL9, because that's what I just ordered.

No worries, have fun with your new hardware hunting. If you haven't decided on a gpu yet, then I would advice looking at either the rx480 or gtx 1060, both with 4+ GB of VRAM if you can swing it. Anything less and you might be looking at high-very high settings at 60fps (At 1080p) instead. Which I mean, is still good, but if you're spending money anyways, ya know? Well, now that you mentioned it... I'm not the most tech savvy person but I managed to narrow down my gpu candidates to following... GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual 3GB GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual 6GB Radeon RX 480 Asus Dual OC 4GB Radeon RX 480 Asus Dual OC 8GB My budget for the GPU is 300 euros. One site had the GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual 3GB on sale with 249 euros. One thing I appreciate when it comes to GPU is for it not being very noisy. Also I'm not quite sure how big of a difference the GB size makes. I just can't seem to be able to decide which of the four GPUs is the best one, so any recommendations would be welcome. I would feel safer suggesting you aim for 4gb or over Sorry, I am not very familiar with EU markets but I did find this on amazon.de www.amazon.de/Dual-GTX1060-6G-GeForce-Grafikkarte-Speicher-Displayport/dp/B01IUA9Z52/ref=sr_1_17?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1488840046&sr=1-17&keywords=gtx+1060 If you want to stick with nvidia. I am an ASUS/Nvidia fanboy myself to be honest. It's kind of good to know you have better support for nvidia features should they be available. Also, I have only used triple fans for my last few cards and don't have experience with ASUS Dual. I do like my asus strix fans though. Maybe you can find some decibel comparison benchmarks or videos on youtube?

I'd go with the RX 480 8GB, if it's in your budget. They're a bit more power hungry than the 1060, but if you plan to keep the card for a couple years I think that you'll be glad to have those extra 2GB. But from what I've heard the Asus ones are a bit on the louder side. The MSI Radeon RX 480 Gaming X 8G seems to be one of the best and most quiet custom designs of this card. If you're in Germany, I suggest looking at geizhals.de to find the best prices for PC components edit: might be a good idea to check your PSU as well before you upgrade; I originally wanted to get a more expensive GPU but ended up choosing the RX 480 because most other cards would have brought my PSU too close to the limit. But I'm very happy with the RX 480.

The 8GB RX480 tends to offer better value here in the States, since it runs about $30 cheaper than the 6GB 1060, but like Perm, I'm not familiar with the EU market. The cards are roughly equal in performance, so I would just pick whichever one is cheaper unless you're a die-hard fan of one team or the other.

I've personally always been a radeon user myself and this is the first time I'm considering something else. Thanks for the Amazon link. Yeah, I kind of thought that the 3GB felt a bit low. Okay, I'll take the 3GB card off my list and try to figure out between the 6GB and the 8GB cards. Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

well i don't meet the minimum. but i thiiiiink i'll still be okay for low-medium settings? i'd love to hear your opinions. windows 8.1 AMD FX 6300 six core, 3.50 GHz Geforce GT 740 16 GB RAM, 2 GB VRAM for reference i play DAI at mostly medium-high settings, with ultra textures & meshes or something. i've been told i could go higher but i just left it at what the game defaulted me to.

I'm in Finland, unfortunately, but hopefully the prices aren't that bad. Thanks again.

Hi there I have an Alienware ASM100 and I am really excited for Mass Effect Andromeda but I am really worried about my CPU. I have a i3 Core i3-4170T 3.2 ghz. GTX Graphics card, I am not sure which one?? 8Gb RAM Now I know this machine can play Battlefield 1 on Medium settings incredibly well, and I keep hearing people say that the specs are very similar to battlefield 1, so I wanted to try and find someone who was Tech-Savy and knows about this stuff. I have pre-ordered the game already and though I am not too fussed about playing the game on high settings I would like to know if the CPU will survive! if not I am looking into upgrading to a core I5 4670K. However this is about 165 quid and if possible I rather not spend this amount of cash out for it! Thanks!

My tip for anyone thinking of upgrading *just* for this game - don't. Or rather, do if you would upgrade regardless, especially if you are on the lower end of the scale (the minimum system reqs). But first see how it plays with your current rig, and upgrade later if you have to. Chances are that even if you don't have the gear stated in the minimum specs you can still play the game with lower grahpical settings.
Then again, if you already want to upgrade, by all means do it.

I'm sure you'd be hard pressed with upgrading anything with your unit considering it's a Steam Machine/PC Console, where everything is likely soldered to the motherboard since those things weren't explicitly meant to be upgraded. And if you could swap out processors, a k variant would be a waste since you wouldn't be able to overclock with your current mobo. If you can run BF1, then you'll be able to run Andromeda on medium/low. But if you're looking for upgrades, you got the wrong piece of equipment to do it.

Hmm? There are certain things on the PC that I can Upgrade and I can't the CPU is one that I can upgrade, it is only clipped in similar to the RAM. I just don't want it overheating. As long as I can run it on Medium or Low I can cope with that thanks for the input!

I'm running an i5 4570, 16gb ram and a gtx770 on a 1440p monitor......will it run on at least medium (hoping for medium/high)? Thinking of upgrading to a gtx1060 6Gb for this game and to extend the lifetime of this system for 1 or 2 more years....is this a wise upgrade?
I do also own a i5 6600 with a gtx 1070 and 16gb of ram, but that is hooked up to my VR headset (Vive)and in another room with no real practical way to sit down and game with mouse/keyboard and I hate switching my computer back and forth. My initial plan was to move my VR computer to the living room in 2 years time and buy a new one for VR at that time.
But it seems my older computer is getting behind faster than my initial assesment and wont last 2 more years, so maybe do the upgrade of the videocard to extend the livetime and play Andromeda at a decent fps or would I still be fine with my current setup?

I got such good suggestions here the last time, so I thought of asking advice once more. I was almost ready to pick the MSI Radeon RX 480 Gaming X 8G as my new GPU but then I stumbled upon these three puppies...
1. ASUS STRIX-RX480-O8G-GAMING 2XDVI HDMI DP 2. ASUS STRIX-RX480-8G-GAMING DIRECTCU III 8GB GDDR5 256BIT DVI HDMI 2XDISPLAYPORT PCI-EXPRESS 3.0 ACTIVE 3. SAPPHIRE Nitro+ Radeon RX 480 8GB
Could someone tell me if they are better than my original choice and if so, which of the three is the best one to choose? Also, what is the difference between 1 and 2? I asking because I really need to get this done before the game comes out and I want to be sure before I buy anything. The card also has to be good enough to last for a longer period of time, so I'm careful in choosing it. I could be wrong but I think the Sapphire seemed the best one.

For gaming, would it really be worth it to go the extra mile from the GTX1060 3GB to the GTX1060 6GB?

The Nitro+ card is clocked highest of the bunch, including the MSI, though probably also the most expensive option. It won't be a night and day difference but a few FPS higher is expected from a higher clocked card. My bet would be the Nitro+ card. Have no idea about the temperatures and fan noise, the MSI and ASUS cards are known for being great in this department. If you want a quiet computer the Nitro+ might not be a good choice but I don't know for sure. The difference between 1 and 2 above are the connectors as far as I can see.

For gaming, would it really be worth it to go the extra mile from the GTX1060 3GB to the GTX1060 6GB? No. Would make like 1 or 2 FPS change, if any. UNLESS you hit the VRAM limit on the 3GB card, then your game will be like old slide shows... This is what I figured. Not sure how I'd hit the VRAM limit tbh. I won't be doing 4k any time soon, and even then it should be able to handle once I upgrade at some point.

The VRAM limit can be a problem if using extreme textures etc. but shouldn't be a problem with MEA. Haven't seen any problems with it with Battlefield 1 and since it is the same engine there is no need to upgrade. Save the money for a 1080 instead
