Currently running a i7 3770K (not OC'd atm) 16G ram and a gigabyte 1080 Extreme gaming. Question is. Think I can run this at max settings ? I am using a 2560 x 1440 screen. Should be fine, but OC that CPU to at least 4.5ghz, and see if faster RAM can be an option. RAM speed matters more than you might think. Please see the digital foundry youtube link earlier in this thread for a side by side comparison.

Guys. I need your advice. I don't know if it's the right time to get a new monitor. Currently I have a 1080p, but I'd love a sweet 1440p. My current system is: i5-4670K 16GB RAM DDR3 1600Mhz GeForce GTX 1080 SSD Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB What would happen if I change from a 1080p monitor to a 1440p monitor with G-SYNC? Would I lose FPS? Would games run better or worse?

So yes, you will see a decrease in FPS but I doubt you will even notice it.

Question about this games usage of CPU vs GPU: Looking around at forums discussing overclocking, the general response is that overclocking the CPU can have an effect on FPS, "depending on the game". Some games use the CPU more heavily than others, but there's no "one size fits all" answer. I have read that the engine used has an effect on determining which part of the computer (CPU or GPU) is used more heavily. Does anyone know how that translates to past Frostbite-based games? I have my FX-8350 (watercooled) very gently overclocked, and was wondering if I'd see an FPS increase if I cranked it up a bit.
I have 16 gigs of DDR3 and a 980ti, just for reference. Thanks in advance.

The 980m is roughly equivalent to a 770, right? I might be wrong, but I think I'm not as screwed as I thought after all, with my 760. That's really good to hear. I really hope I can run it on medium settings at least

Thanks in advance. Get MSI afterburner, check CPU/GPU usage. Rule of thumb, if GPU usage is 99% it's the limiter/bottleneck, if it's the CPU that often spikes to high usage, with GPU below 99%, the CPU is the limiter/bottleneck - Take DAI for instance, at 1440p, my 980 ti is at 99% usage all the time, and my CPU rests at like 30-65% usage, so while a CPU upgrade could net me a small increase in FPS, I would most likely would benefit more from a GPU upgrade, FPS wise. So, if the GPU is hovering lower than 99% usage, it's either the game being framelocked (i.e. cutscenes in DAI) or bottlenecked by the system, and yes, OCing would alleviate the latter some, to varying extent - I expect min. FPS will be a good bit higher with higher clock/newer CPU, as there's bound to be times where CPU usage will spike. If you're at 1080p, I'm pretty sure the 980 ti can handle it just fine and the game will run smooth for you. If not, you can always OC the FX-8350 some more. This is all speculation though, untill saturday!

Thanks in advance. Frostbite in general is an engine that can use multiple cores, so your CPU is fine at this time. Generally though, you can look at the speed of your RAM to help increase average FPS, but given that you likely have an old motherboard, it would be for your next rig I think, when you'll need a new one regardless. You can check Digital Foundry's test into the effects of decent RAM; link

This is all speculation though, untill saturday! Great answer, thank you! Thanks also to TormDK. I have Afterburner on my computer, ditto BF1. Since MEA and BF1 run on the same Frostbite 3 engine, I'll fire it up and test. TormDK, in reference to your point about the motherboard, I have a GA-990FXA-UD3 (can't remember the revision number, I know it's stamped on the board). Looks like it was released in 2011 or 12, so yes, it's older. My next purchase down the road will be a new CPU and mobo. Interesting point on the RAM, I'll look into it. Thanks. Edit: Fired up BF1 at 1080, set to ultra everything. Was getting 50-54 FPS with the CPU pretty much maxing out, GPU topping out in the 70's for usage. So I'll boost it a bit tomorrow, see how it does.

Well I got Origin Access now, since I really wanted to test my PC. DA:I runs great on Ultra, I just turned off 2 settings I don't care about and the rest is just maxed out. I also have only a monitor for 1080p, so that also helps. I will just jump into the Multiplayer and use my 10 hours. Seems like Mass Effect will have more options to play with than DA:I. Am I correct? I wonder what graphics card you have, but if it plays DA:I on Ultra with a few tweaks, it should be fine for ME:A probably with a few tweaks too. Also the Multiplayer seems to be a perfect place to test it, since there should be more stuff happening on screen there than in the Singleplayer for the most part. Anyway, after you get to play the game please report back with the results I have a Nitro+ RX470 8GB. I have Shadow Quality on Low, because that is something I don't care about and Post Processing thingy..., because as soon as there is motion blur... I will turn it off, I hate that! And I guarantee that Film Grain will be off in ME:A, that's also something I hate. I will 100% report back, since I know there are some people with similar specs. And like you said the multiplayer will be more demanding so there is no better place than to test the game.

I don't remember my settings in DA:I exactly but it was something like 'almost Ultra', with two settings below it, getting around 55-60 Fps on 1080p. Unfortunately the Origin Early Access thingy isn't available in my region, I just found it out a couple of days ago . Wish I could test my hardware and also get to play ME:A Multiplayer before release. But well, since you have the same specs as I do, seeing the results you get will make me content enough until the 21st

So I just preordered on PC and cancelled my ps4 predorder, I am really hoping it'll play on high-ish setting on my new, semi-good PC.
I5-7500 3.40 Ghz 8 GB Ram 6 GB Nvidia 1060
Now, Dragon Age: Inquistion is running fine on ultra, with some few moments of slowdown. So I am hoping ME:A is the same, albeit perhaps on lower settings than ultra.

Could be those min specs is for high 1080p 30fps minimum. So in that regard it is true. I have a feeling the minimum/recommended specs have changed their meaning in the minds of developers, it used to be"you can just play the game" and "you can play it ok" but these days it's more like "that is minimum that we recommend you to have to enjoy it at reasonable resolution and quality.".

That is true, but people who lack knowledge are suffering because they can play the game on older 19" monitors on higher settings in max resolution with weaker hardware and they don't know that. Also it depends of game optimization, just remember Arkham Knight debacle Also, that was more a joke than opinion

I know this game has SLI support. I am just hoping my 2 1080's is enough for this game at 4k. Thank you!

I have already pre purchased the game. I am not sure if that is silly of me, but I have faith in Bioware as they did confirm SLI support. Does the refund timer start when the game releases on the 21st? Don't know much about EA's refund policy well origin or whatever. Thank you!

There's a PC requirements thread just for this question but anyway unless Bioware screws up SLI optimisation, two 1080s would be more than enough
