So far we don't have any video proof that other characters in the game uitilize jetpacks (or do we?). Do you think that (only Ryder being able to hop around the battlefield) will be a part of the story or will it be never mentioned by any other character? Seems to me that it will look odd to have only Ryder flying all over the place - it looks to be really advantageous in combat and it would be strange if other characters would stay on the ground when in ME universe everything is based on ME fieldsTM thus being equally accessible for everyone (not to mention that we had flying characters before (f.e. Samara in cutscenes).

I would bet they use them in cut scenes, just not in combat

Think about it like this, If we have to boost to get up somewhere, so do our squadmates.

As weird as squad mates magically appearing in front of you when they fall to far behind or you trigger an event.

It prolly works the same way your horse worked in DA:I - they just magically appear somewhere close to where Ryder is. That said, the companions look like they tend to roam around a bit more than they did in previous games, meaning they are not always two steps away from Ryder.

Maybe the companions have the jet packs but are just afraid to use them since they are scared of heights.

I haven't seen anywhere Cora could hide a jetpack. Though maybe she uses that Biotic Leap ability that Adepts get.

My problem with it is boosting up in the air and hoovering during combat.
Why would you do that? You're basically screaming "HEY! SHOOT ME!"

In Destiny the AI tracks and shoots at where they think you're about to land, that's what makes angel of light a decent perk with certain exotics and with certain nightfall modifiers.

Yeah, the freeze in air to aim is very situational because it fucks with the AI that way. From the videos I've seen of ME:A it doesn't seem like that happens here though.

Volus will need a jetpack, because of big hills, and they only have little volus-legs. So pretty much 100% confirmed everyone gets them IMO.

Generally yes, but not if you use it properly, and under the right circumstances, I will use gameplay from a game that has a near identical hover mechanic, Halo 5: In the following clip, 4 enemies on foot were approaching my base, instead of moving forward, and exposing myself to their direct gunfire, I stepped back jumped and hovered in the air to put myself in a position that I could do good damage to them, while not exposing myself to them for too long. Luckily I was able to land a clutch no scope after I dispatched the first target. xboxclips.com/Astronautic+II/fb3ef404-bada-478d-9631-de4b1e4afe55This clip is more straight forward, before he was able to kill me, I was able to hide behind an object that was still short enough for me to hover over, he wasn't expecting this, and I was able to land a quick headshot for the kill. xboxclips.com/Astronautic+II/a1f32ffe-1b38-476c-a101-ae344a0e8935

As weird as us spawning in/out of the Nomad in a jarring way because they couldn't do an animation quick enough so they scrapped it completely. It's been a decade since the 1st game. They could have figured out a way to do it.

Sure...but you wouldn't have to be hovering long to make it useful. The trip mine seems to fire in a straight line instead of arcing around like some other powers. Temporary high ground to land a mine around enemy cover seems pretty useful. Or even as a way to rain down a turbo charged assault rifle in the same way. I'm sure there's many practical applications, plus IMO it looks awesome!

Concidentally, easiest way to do it would be to mimic how Batman gets into the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, just with less ridiculousness because of jetpacks and biotics, lol. My only concern about the jetpack is the potential inability to not have the dodge dashes; I want my combat rolls and cartwheels!

That even goes back to the original Halo on the Xbox; jumping on the harder difficulties would get you killed pretty quickly, as the AI would just calculate your jump trajectory and lead their shots. Personally I like the hover. I think it would be a good way to pop over a hill or some cover, take out an exposed target, then drop back down before the fire gets too heavy.

Briefly hovering at a point allows you field of vision from a position that generally other people would not expect to be shot from, thus it works for a short period of time. AI for the most part know exactly where you are and will just shoot you if they can see. PS: Should you not employ the scope?

They could just have Shepard quickly jump in/out of the door of the Nomad that already opens. The camera zooms in on you as you jump in/out and the other squad members just "teleport" in/out during the animation.

True, but the totality in it's utility with regard to A.I. will be determined with how they were programmed. Which we're all unaware of. I still believe that it will inherently have it's use, such as peek-a-boo shooting with a powerful charge up weapon(The Geth Sniper Javelin for example). I'm having an autonomous sensory meridian response just thinking about it.
