This game is a lot more flexible in terms of options...but let's be honest, especially in early to mid parts of the games, in order to be as strong as possible, a lot of investment will tend to go towards one tree more than others. Even Skyrim and Witcher 3, which had the similar open-ended skill-set would lead to players favoring one particular playstyle over others. Personally, I'll try to rock a Sentinel. In all playthrough of MET, I can only play as a sentinel. Pure Biotics are deadly, yes, but an ability to completely neutralize Geth and/or other synthetics are just too awesome. And besides, Sentinels are able to take down any and all defenses (Armor, Shields, Barrier). I mean, Sentinel Shep + Liara + Tali is just deadly. Spam Singularity + Throw everywhere and it just becomes funny. Then add a combat turret/AI Hacking to the mix and game over. This time, I will load up on basic biotic and tech skills in the beginning and as I grow in level add in some high-powered stuff. Finally I get to play with singularity! I'm really not interested in the combat tree tbh. I don't really like using guns -- and playing as a sentinel in MET pretty much means you don't have to use guns as much as other classes. I don't know. It's like you have the power to control dark matter, you have the power to be a tech genius and....you want to shoot guns? It's just like in Dragon Age, you can control magic...and you want to hold a sword. To each his own ofc, but still...

Combat and Tech. Going for an Infiltrator build focused on Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles. I'll probably take Cloak, Incinerate, and Overload.

Tech/Biotic, does look pretty powerful in this game, not going to lie. That said, there are some stand alone abilities in the combat tree that seem to be pretty powerful all on their own. Plus those oh so sweet passives for all your weapons. Not to mention that concussive shot you can configure to fire almost constantly with a shotgun.
IDK, I haven't thought about what I am going to do at the beginning of the game yet, but I should prolly start thinking about it.
I think to start off it would be pretty cool to have stealth + charge, so I might try to go that way if I can right off the bat with sentinel. If I can't do that I will prolly hit up the biotic tree pretty hard at first to get abilities like lance and singularity, emphasising cooldown where I can.
I sorta feel like rocking adept would be the way I would like to go at the very beginning and then go to Vanguard, then Explorer.

Well, devs said that you can grind out all the skills in a single playthrough, so I guess it doesn't really matter. But I guess mostly tech since everyone and their mothers have biotics and combat skills are quite boring on the surface.

I did a lot of tech in the original trilogy, so this time I'm doing a lot of biotics.
Although I still think I'll play around with tactical cloak.
Edit: And also, pistols. I don't care if there are more powerful weapons. I'm going with pistols and nothing else. I find them aesthetically pleasing.

I just wanna make a highly mobile Biotic soldier. With different profiles for different distances to enemies.
I just need to know the cooldown of every skill to say something reasonable. This matters, due to the favorites stuff and everything going on cooldown.

Ill focus on tech early because I like the look of overload, cryo beam, turret and invasion. But by mid game I plan to have my points spread a bit. A few biotic powers plus barrier, and some combat passives for damage and survivability.
I reeeeeeally want that biotic teleport ability from the explorer profile.

Combat and Tech. Going for an Infiltrator build focused on Sniper Rifles and Assault Rifles. I'll probably take Cloak, Incinerate, and Overload. That's already my plan for my Sara play through (second). Cloak for DPS/Survivability, Overload for shields and Incinerate for armour sounds like the perfect combination to me, especially as it appears that both Incinerate and Overload can be specced to both prime and detonate so you'd get fire and tech combo's too. That said, it's absolutely undoubted that my first play through will focus heavily on Biotics because Charge. Well Biotics and Combat for weapon skills/passives.

Combat passives look nice, but I don't see myself investing too much into combat actives to make them worth it. So tech + biotics. I've played Vanguard too often in the original trilogy, so perhaps something other than Charge. Nah who am I kidding, I'm getting Charge.
It might also be nice to go the Explorer route for roleplay reasons.

Charge, Nova and Annihilation looks too delicious to pass up. I'm waiting to see what the Vanguard profile bonuses are before choosing between it or Adept

We know we can at least go to level 70 with 5 point per level => 350 point. One ability max cost 21 points so having 350/21 = 16 maxed ability which is more than enough. Now what I want to know is the progression for profile. We know there are 6 level of profiles Rank 1 : ? Rank 2 : 24 => level 5 Rank 3 : 58 => level 12 Rank 4 : around 100 => level 20 Rank 5 : 156 => level 32 Rank 6 : ? (200 ?) => level 40+/- Divide by 3 for the explorer profile and I guess by 2 for hybrids profiles. Being Rank 6 in two exclusive profiles seems impossible if max level is 70. Hope this help for planification.
Now for my part. Biotic I neglected in the past seems to be way more interesting than before with a ton of cool effect, movements/shields/CC/area effect but poor damage ratio so I might emphasize on it. However I like to play on harder difficulties but don't like the bullet sponge opponents that comes with it. So I will invest a lot of point in soldier passives (and because other spec abilities are more fun) for overall effectivness and a select profile for tougher enemies. I like the explorer profile so I will start investing everywhere right at the beginning. Tech seems no that good, I don't find summoning turret and drone fun so i will invest point in it to unlock hybrid profile and get useful abilities like overcharge, tactical cloak, the team passive and shield passive and max them out. Profile 1 : Adept => Aoe and fun abilies for opening the combat Profile 2 : Soldier => Turbocharge, tactical cloak anti-armor kind of stuff, burst damage for tougher opponents Profile 3 : Vanguard => Charge, Backlash, Cryobeam Close combat biotic option. Profile 4 : Explorer => Overcharge and other situational abilities as an alternative opponer to Adept. With a Combat gear probably. Profile 5 : Infiltrator, with the huge bonus to sniper rifle (+70% damage +30%accuracy and stability at level 3) it seems the only way to bother taking a sniper as they slow your cooldown when changing profiles... but I don't expect to go beyond 50 point invested in tech, maybe in another playthrough.
So a ratio Biotic/Combat/Tech like 1/1/1 at the start of the game to unlock most of the ability i want to play it then 1,5/1/0,5 for optimization. That should allow me to unlock at least Explorer 5, Vanguard 5 and Adept 5 or Soldier 5. I'm not sure biotic is the most intersting spec to optimize for damage.

As in every BW game since Baldur's Gate, I'll go with a good matured, warrior (ie. combat) male default character for the first play through... after that, dunno. Most likely new game+ femRyder with Explorer/Sentinel focus.

I always played Shepard as a Soldier. It just felt right to me and I really enjoyed it. I think I'll go for a combat focused character again, but I'm definitely going to invest in biotics as well.

Depends on the way you look at it. Taking a weird looking magic wand and using it to fling a stream of extremely fast sharp particles into someones face from several hundred meters sounds like completely awesome witchcraft to me. I'll go with combat and tech because I want an infiltrator using cloak, ranged weapons and a submachine gun as backup. Kill them all from a safe distance & cover before they even know whats going on. And if things get close I'll ventilate my enemies with a hailstorm of lead out of my SMG.

Tech and Combat, as I said before in another thread I feel biotics are too convenient for the protagonist of the story to have. Same goes with Magic in fantasy games. I like my main/canon characters to be more grounded for me, as the viewer of the story, to relate more with the protagonist.

I prefer maxing out the tech tree, and taking a biotic and a combat specialist with me. Though this time I'm tempted to try out the foe-grabber biotic power.

I'll play a stealthy character with cloak like I always do in every game ever. I'm still thinking whether I'll be more of an infiltrator type and use my sniper or if I want to be an up close and personal type of assassin. If that's even possible.

At first I was planning of going full biotic because Charge + Nova and Pull+throw looks awesome, but then I really love sniping things too, so I'm starting to think that Tech/Combat might be what I'm going to go for.

Forget the character creator. I spend hours agonizing over my first few points on a character.
I honestly don't know. I'll probably mix it up with all class types, but start up with some points in Soldier.
