Is it just me, or are some of these asari looking masculine? I know some asari weren't attractive in the trilogy, but they still looked feminine. i.imgur.com/nFs5Jyd.gifI can imagine her speaking with a man's voice.

I heard you can actually catch the killer without a combat encounter but the Court Approval system is a POS. Unless you're human it'll randomly go down during cutscenes and having a variable of 0-100 need to be at 100 specifically or whatever I needed to do is stupid. I got it to 99 on 3 playthroughs. It's the single trophy I lack to achieve platinum for the game and it's stupidly stupid. Sounds like you didn't understand the system. There's no randomness whatsoever, and the race and class effects are explained in a pop-up at the start of the mission. I don't know how you failed to get to 100 if you could consistently get to 99. Anyway, aren't a lot of achievements stupid? Edit: oh, wait... do you mean that you got to 100 but it always dropped to 99 before the end of the sequence? That should still get you the achievement.

I mean, full disclosure: ME is the only game I've played since I was a kid and the N64 was a thing and me and my friend would sit and play Goldeneye all day. Last I checked into games, it was...well...we'll just say that ME:A is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen that I can direct the action of myself, and if I WANTED to play the other games that theoretically look better...I would?? But I don't. I want to play ME:A. So. First things first, I have a wild need to see that thing y'all are making a stink about -- the weird backwards jolt/face Sara does at the start -- with like. Bass dropping. Slo-mo. 'I don't **** with you' (I've got a million trillion things I'd rather ****in' do...) playing, or something. Maybe it's my inexperience, but I think it looks great, and ALSO is the funniest 'are you for REAL right now' face I have seen in a while. This is my best look into Sara so far, and it might help shape mine. Peebs and Sara having a snipe-y back and forth snark thing on the surface would be dreamy. I feel like Peebee's constant chatter might be rushed because the player is rushing? Or editing maybe? Either way I'm not real worried. It's a little jarring, but nothing bad. I like SAM's voice. It's less grating than Legion's, but has the same electronic thing. The jetpack's effect on Ryder's movement is interesting. Love the little details; scrambling up over rocks, smacking into them like a dang moth on a window. I definitely agree that the little fancy footwork is an awesome touch. It looks really great. As a 21 year old who's been playing video games since I was about 3, I think there's a lot to like about what's been shown for Andromeda. A lot to be skeptical about, but hey, $60 is a lot of money. I think the positives have been outweighing the negatives, though. Most of my gripes are nitpicks and just genuine pessimism, with the writing being the thing I'm worried about the most, despite seeing very little of it. Oh, there's for sure things to be skeptical about. I feel you there for sure; and I'm sad about the pessimism thing. Brain's an old softie that just wants people to be happy. tch. I guess I'm an optimist, though? And nearer 30, and having EXTREMELY limited experience with gaming. I don't know enough about the Gaming Industry Things -- or care, actually, beyond 'this is a thing that is fun for me, there is more of it coming out, AWESOME', you know? -- to be much of a pessimist. The writing is a bit of a grey area yet, though, definitely. As long as the characters and interactions are good, though, I can EASILY be distracted by pretty shiny things, most often. Totally did notice that her waist is tiny, though. 'Turian??' was actually a thought, at that. Niobacrux, I am SO into a Ryder as shown in that image, but, you know. Not likely. Tiny sparrow Sara is pretty cute, I guess. She won't be lifting anybody onto her shoulders to ride to Valhalla, but hey, that's what Vetra's for. side-note: Peebs looks TINY, seeing her in combat, but 5'4" is taller than Shepard, wasn't it? She's all soft and squishy, though. Can't decide if it was the player or if she's just prone to it, but if she ends up eating it as often as Garrus, I'm gonna be cranky. Put some armor on, Pelessaria.

Bioware's become a weird magnet for lonely, angry guys who see an "SJW" conspiracy in everything the company does. I don't think this female character is attractive--they did it on purpose cuz feminism!!1 Manveer Hairr goofs on the alt-right--HES RACYCISS AGINST WYPIPO!1! I first noticed this shit back in the build up to ME3's release, when 4chan would troll OG BSN (they had a bizarre hard-on for moderator Stanley Woo especially). It's become a meme or whatever the fuck you kids call it nowadays.
So anyway, a lot of the "criticism" you see on Youtube is really just a cover for general Bioware hate. They'll use any bit of a game's flaws as a weapon.

Can't say that I'm impressed with just about anything I've seen just yet, which is very disappointing.
The dialogue/banter matches the character designs... juvenile and cartoonish. It belongs in a Disney XD show. Not sure If I was watching a 'mature' RPG, or Doc McStuffins. Somebody much earlier in the thread mentioned that they 'wished the series grew up with me, but it obviously hasn't' (paraphrasing). I agree, and not only that, from the bits and pieces we've seen, it appears to have taken several steps back into the childish/cartoonish realm.
Really hoping to be blown away by the actual game at release, but my expectations keep getting chopped down, one video at a time.

The previews generally praised the loyalty missions.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
Every time I read a comment about how "Disney" Andromeda is, I cringe.

She's all soft and squishy, though. Can't decide if it was the player or if she's just prone to it, but if she ends up eating it as often as Garrus, I'm gonna be cranky. Put some armor on, Pelessaria. I appreciate it, but as much as I love gaming, it's very easy to get wrapped up in the cynicism surrounding the industry these days. It's all very safe and artificial. Hype culture is to a point where everyone is blindly throwing away hundreds of dollars on Collector's Editions for games they end up talking shit on for the rest of the year, when they realize it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Personally, I'm relatively easy to please. Or rather, since that makes me look like I have low standards, I like being able to pick out merit in games before flaws. I ultimately try to weigh the fun I have with a game more than the nagging issues. That being said, there have been several releases within the last two years that I can think of that have been utterly despicable corporate cash grabs, banking entirely off of brand recognition and pre-order culture. Games that really don't have enough good to outweigh the bad. Other games have just been genuinely disappointing due to publishers interfering and rushing developers, and in other cases, treating their workers like garbage. This has happened even with some of my most beloved series. Including Metal Gear Solid, which I was able to be introduced to at the previously mentioned age of three. So, while I share some of your optimism, I also empathize with a lot of the gaming community. Most of us just want to feel like we're not being duped to make a quick buck. It doesn't seem like it should be that much to ask for. I still care about games, though. And I've actually had quite a bit of fun this past year with some older things I've revisited, or things I'm finally experiencing that everyone else said was great. It's a medium worth caring about. Anyway, that's my rant. I would also love if squadmates would start wearing armor and helmets again. I've complained about that enough in one thread though, lol.

Youtube is like the Wild West or the American Frontier, with a nuclear spill that makes it toxic. So Fallout essentially?

On a related note, the A.V. Club sold me on watching Star Wars:Rebels; that's how I knew that Firstblood had botched his metaphor.

Haven't had time to watch it yet but why does Ryder have a turian's waist? Is it the armor? Yeah, can't have skinny women with small waists BioWare. Fix this immediately... I did not state or imply that I have something against thin waists, please take your baggage elsewhere. If it's the armor causing the disproportionate effect then okay, my post specifically whether it is since I haven't watched the video.

I think you'll find KotOR a proto-Mass Effect is pretty much every way. A very enjoyable game. KotOR 2 is in my humble opinion even better if you can get past the atrocious rushjob that Obsidian was forced into by Lucas Arts. Fallout is good (but graphically VERY VERY dated), but Fallout 2 is a true masterpiece.

I figured I'd give the first one a try before I got the second, but so far it's reminding me of a strange mixture of Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 1. It's kinda surreal. I did kinda play a few hours of Fallout about two years ago, so I kinda know what I'm getting into. There was too much going on to really play though. I kinda like the graphical style. Reminds me of some old flash games I used to play around on.

Could be Angara based armour modified for human use.

And it still is. Makes me wanna play Multiplayer again. The little vault-over-cover roll we've seen Ryder do in ME:A looks cool too. In fact, it's strange. The facial animations and all cutscene-y stuff looks like something they had to rush out the door because they haven't had the time to really work properly on it (or maybe it's the new tech that makes it impossible to make so much of it in high quality across an entire game) but every animation dedicated to movement and gameplay, aside from the fact that it still looks like it was recorded by stuntment with all their exaggerated arm movements, it looks pretty tight. I'm a big fan of this: *snip* Facial animations look weird because Bioware added more advanced stuff into it and they couldn't polish animations properly for various reasons. And due to character creator, it is also an additional baggage for facial animations to work.
