It wouldn't be Mass Effect without dad being a prick who acts like he doesn't love you. One of my favorite things about ME2 was, in addition to all the people with daddy issues, we finally had a squadmate who was a daddy issue. Thanks, Thane! I thought Alec sounded fine. The response the player chose did have Scott sound rather flippant about a serious situation.

We can be the bitter Gamlen to our sibling's Leandra. Or would that be Carver to Hawke? Anyway, DAD LOVES YOU MORE THAN ME.

I think I'm going to go with Scott being devoted to his sister, but thinking Space Gamlen is kind of a dick. Totally going to take the dialogue option that IGN didn't choose when Ryder gets a chance to talk about dear ol' dad.
Even though I think Clancy Brown is awesome.

I havn't played DA 2 in a long time but from what I remember now that I think of it they kind of look alike. It might just be me.

I picture Scott genuinely loving his family, while still building up resentment as he tries his best to prove that he's more than just support for his more assertive twin, until he finally blows up at them both over the feeling that they take him for granted.

That's what I'm doing with my female Ryder too -- 100% devoted and close with her brother but with some major anger and abandonment issues regarding her father. I'm honestly excited to see just how bad we can make things between our Ryder and Alec cause I'm going there.

I wonder if his reaction would be any different towards Sara or whether it's just that he's aggro to both siblings no matter what.

That'll depend on what Scott you'll roleplay I imagine unless of course you meant NPC Scott. In that case we don't really know anything. Twin could be the final boss of the main story for all we know

Though based on pre-release bios I can imagine NPC!Scott having a few issues along the lines I described.

I was expecting a much more spoilery video like when they've showed the entire prologue of ME3 back in the day.

Is it just me, or is the tone super inconsistent in this? I feel like they go from slow start to dire stakes in the span of a minute, there's anti-gravity when we bump into the Scourge of Habitat-7 but then 2 secs later Cora does... something and turns it off -- everybody acts as if nothing happened -- then we go and fix some things on the way, meet Daddy, and then he has a really weird speech about something everybody in the room should already know about the nature of Habitat 7. But they plan to go there immediately... or something, because the power has run out... like... there's missing communication here. It's not very clear what just happened before Daddy and co. seem completely assured about the fact that everyone is at stake. There's something really off here. It seems like a rushed premise and I couldn't quite tell what, but something just confused me about it. The first time I watched it I was too pleasantly surprised at the graphic and the tone of the environment but I rewatched it and the dialogue is so tonally inconsistent, or maybe it's just me. Well, I watched it, and the most important thing I can take from the video, regardless of the pros and cons, is that it felt, to me, like a Mass Effect game. So I hope the game follows what they shown in the first part of the prologue. I'm kind of torn about this. I mean, I liked it. I love the tone of the environments, but is it Mass Effect? I'm not quite sure actually, but I've been on board with the idea of an actual soft-reboot since we learned we were going away from the old Mass Effect universe (which we are, let's be honest. Mass Relays, the Mass Effect and the Milky Way MADE Mass Effect) But the tone of dialogue they're going for, the aesthetic focus and such it is all much more like JJ Abram's Star Trek than it is Mass Effect 1 or 2 or 3. There's lore from it of course, there's aliens like Krogan and such, but so much of the overall vibe is just not really Mass Effect in my opinion, and I don't mind it, I just don't think it feels that much like Mass Effect for whatever reason.

The game is absolutely gaaaawgeous. Scott's VA is very good. Unlike Sara, Scott doesn't grin like a lunatic during the first conversation. Captain's hair! On my Sara Ryder! NOW! Also, I can't wait to hang out with our dad:

So I caved and watched it... Say what you want about Cora's hair but she is smoking hot.
Scott Ryder's facial animations are still a bit janky (especially the eyes) but at least he's now more expressive. I thought all of the other facial animations ranged from okay to good. Lexi's and Rydad's were the best.
Love the overall feel and can't wait to start exploring.

LMAO @ Scott not giving zero fracks about his sister! I'll remember that dude! A lot of the dialogue to lip movement synching is really off. There are points where it looks almost fine but then quickly starts to slip and boom is gone again. Ryder and the female captain at the end were especially bad. I just hope that's the beta version peeps played earlier where they all said there were those kinds of bugs but Bioware was aware of them and were fixing them, cuz that was bad. Very sloppy for Bioware. I actually think this is updated. Compare the little smirk Scott does now vs the one in the Natalie Dormer video. It's been improved. Look, we all know the animations were never going to look perfect. Remember what kind of game this is (in terms of quantity of animations) and consider that you don't animate something with a flip-switch. There's quite literally multiple movies' worth of animation in high fidelity in a game like this, BioWare has increased the level of detail required with more movable face parts, and it just takes more effort to animate each individual shot of a character, meaning that across such a large game, some of it will look janky. I think there's a lot of people, especially if you look on NeoGAF that are just completely oblivious to some of these concepts.
