This got me really hyped it felt like ME1 I like that. My only problem other than the obvious facial animations and dialogue wheel is Poker. I'm going to pissed if I'm teased with Poker and can't actually play.
Red Dead Redemption is one of my favourite games from last gen I spent more time playing Poker than hunting or any of the other things you can do in that game.

I'm as excited for the "background" characters as I am the crew, seems several characters (Gil, Lexi, Suvi, Kallo) will be very integral to storytelling/world building and will be just as complex as the crew.... adds more to the story/game.
With that said, the facial animations (specifically) the eyes, are disappointing and kind of distracting in a weird way. Won't ruin my enjoyment of the game but I doubt they'll be able to fix them. Hopefully in the next game they master Frostbite.

So the PAX stream finally showed extended gameplay loop, and I like it. There's lots to do and more in depth RPG mechanics than in past games. In addition, the controls during exploration and fighting looked much improved, way fucking better than ME3.

Just gotta throw this out there...I've licked many a rock in my day. It's the quickest way to identify siltstone (can't feel grains with fingers), and some types of salts. So...hooray for geologists!!  Also...this forum needs a licking-rock smiley now! The eyes look dead as hell to me. Like, way worse than other ME games and DAI (I looked at some clips to compare). I can't figure out why, because I am not an artist, so I can't pinpoint what looks so weird about it. They look flat...like they have not been shaded properly compared to the rest of the face. It's like the thousand yard stare my cat gets on her face sometime. I'll get over it when I play, I'm sure, but it is a bit creepy tbh. Anyway, still excited, but may wait a few days at least to purchase... |

Yeah people look like Disney animatronics. And the (baby) "fishmouth" thing keeps reminding me of this scene in Innerspace:  Which is a shame because otherwise MEA looks fun and great. I can overlook it but it's taking some effort. Btw I love that brow-raising expression Dr. Lexi does, though. Stop hatin'. |

PeeBee and co's closeup conversations on the tempest for example are not something I think BioWare considers to be broken and needs to be fixed. |

The eyes still look stitled in some conversations and the lips can sometimes jut out (which is apparently fixed in the day 1 patch) but yeah, the animations aren't game-breakingly awful. I just booted up Witcher 3 to verify, and while it does have better animations for sure, it's really not light years ahead of Andromeda like some people claim. And even then, only Geralt has those really good-looking animations. Random NPCs look almost just as stilted as those in Andromeda most of the time. And CDPR is just as guilty as Bioware of recycling animations in between convos; how many times must Geralt cross his arms, anyway.

I liked it, nice to see many dialogue options with our crew mates. Honestly I didn't think the facial animations here looked that terrible. Or at least not as bad as the last video.

Spoiler incase people didn't notice /haven't actually watched: Did nobody notice the Kett in the medical wing with Lexi?!
I noticed that as well. Seems at some point we take an unconscious or dead Kett onto the Tempest and Lexi is either tending to and/or studying it. |

Yeah i think alot here are really overrating the "badness" of the Animations.. In The Witcher 3 the Main Characters have really good facial animatons at least in really important Cutscenes The rest of the time they are bland and stiff. And dont get me started on Side Characters.. Deus Ex Mankind Divided as i mentioned before is on a whole new Level of bad Facial Animation.. The Lip Synch is totally off and they look like Puppets.. Skyrim Special Edition was horrid as is TESO SWTOR.. yap What big Story driven RPG of the last few years did i miss? Yes in Games like Battlefield, Uncharted etc we see what great Animation looks like. But as you see all bigger RPGs with Dialogue Choices are having trouble with this. You have to animate so much more dialogue as in one of those Cinematic,Linear Action Games. Not an Excuse.. they should strive to improve on that.. either in Patches or for the Next Game. But i think its not shocking considering that i cant think of ANY Big Story heavy RPG that has consistently!! better Animations.. |
