What do you think about the plot? What is Alec's role in the plot beyond the prologue? Is the central mystery engaging? And how is the villain? I like the plot. I think everything after the vault on Eos was embargoed? The game really begins to feel like a pretty intriguing mystery right after that embargo point, given what happens right after, and the story beats are pretty consistent & intriguing. It's the main reason why I've kept on playing. I'd be happy to discuss Alec's role in private message (I'd rather not include spoilers here in case anyone gets upset, even if using the spoiler tag). Thanks for your reply! I think further spoilers won't be necessary. You already addressed my biggest concern.

This is the only thing I needed to hear. Its why I play games anyways. Bugs will be eventually ironed out and I don't care much for animation and UI problems. I never play the games that I am really excited about on launch anyways, so all these minor issues will be gone when I start playing it. Thank You, Good Sir for your feedback.

I look forward to a more detailed review. (And to an apology from the last of the Romans.) Not holding my breath for any sort of apology. Kinda nasty, the initial response I got, but oh well. I met 2 people from these forums in real life today, and got them both a copy of the game - both cool people, so I'm not really bothered. Gonna drop by Ottawa any time soon? *grin* Nah, congrats on the game. I'm surprised you can play so early.. I'm pretty sure if they had a physical disk for PC and I installed it, Origin would prevent me from playing. One up for the consoles I guess! By the way, people have been complaining about the writing quality as well, in general conversations. I know this is subjective, but did you think it was on par with past games? (Note I said on par, making no claim that past writing was stellar ) And did you experience any strange slowdowns, like everything started moving in slow motion? I'm wondering if that problem exists only on PC.

Are there any actual side planets to land on and explore/do quests on?, or is it literally the 6 or so "handful" of main planets that Bioware have mentioned previously?..

I'll ask the important question. Did they manage to sneak any Hanar in at all and if so can you call them a big stupid jellyfish?
Please respond promptly kind sir, my pre-order hinges on it.

On the point of conversations - the one major change I've noticed is that the conversations seem a lot more streamlined. Unlike Mass Effect 2 or 3, where sometimes you had to listen to an entire speech from a character before having the chance to speak, in Andromeda, it seems, at most, that characters deliver two or three "blobs" of conversation before you have the chance to interject. I don't know whether I would say it's a step back. Personally I loved the world building that those long convos provided in ME1 and ME2 (long talks with Wrex about the Genophage, or with Tali about her people and the Pilgrimage). But they don't really feel necessary here, given that everything is so new and mysterious. What I will say - *****SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING**** At the end of each major Priority Operation, you get to debrief your team on the Tempest - those conversations are my favorite, because they feel organic, natural, and as well written as any that we experienced in the previous ME games. I know that's quite non-committal to your question, but just my thoughts on the conversation writing at this point.

Heh, thanks I dont think they have physical copies of the PC version to ship unfortunately. Thanks for the info. The impression I had was that the conversations among your crew were better than the various NPC's on the Nexus, for instance. People complained about the 'immature' dialog in some cases. I'd prefer the world building the way it was done in ME1. Something happened even in ME2 where they decided to switch to 'rule of cool', and start making some of the other races meme machines and jokes rather than fleshing them out as actual people. Anyway I lived with that in the OT, I can probably live with it for Andromeda. Thanks! Hey another silly question. This might be spoilery, so want to PM me? What I'm wondering is, during one of the AI briefings (The ones on the website, not in game), Suvi mentions completing the Nexus requires a few resources including Element Zero, helium 3 , 'Water' and 'Ice'. Did you find anything that suggests what they actually need, or why they seem to suggest two separate states of water as different resources?

And yes, I know what you mean. Not that world building doesn't occur here, it's just not done in great big exposition dumps like before. The other thing I forgot to mention about conversations - the banter between your Ryder and your crew borders between ridiculous and cringeworthy, to genuinely funny. Shepherd had a handful of quirky moments that people loved, but this is much lighter in tone, and you can be quite playful and sarcastic as Ryder, which I'm really enjoying. Helps establish a much lighter tone.

If you played a male Ryder , did you see romance lines available with Jaal per chance? Lots of people would really like to know.

Will get into more details tomorrow, but the two major issues right now: a) There are major bugs related to mission progress - certain missions you simply cannot finish because their progress is bugged and blocked. The HUD and the MAP for exploring is very lacking. Certain map elements actually disappear off the map once you've discovered them, making it a pain in the arse if you have to go back to a specific sight (which is quite often if you are on the side quest completion grind like I am). The nomad is crying out for some sort of mini-map and radiation indicator as well As a quest fiend, the idea of quests bugging out preventing completion bugs me way more than some spotty animation issues. I'm surprised about the lack of a proper ability to detect radiation, especially in a vehicle as advanced as the Nomad. Hell the PC of Fallout was able to get one. Yes, it's the one issue that really bothers me right now. I've done everything I can think of to pretty much confirm that it's the game, and not me, that is the cause of the issue. And the radiation, combined with the HUD and MAP issues, really make the Nomad gameplay very unsatisfactory.

I'll have a proper answer later today, as I've only been focusing on the priority operation planets so far. It seems to me as though most of the planets are just scannable planets, rather than free open planets to land on. But I'll verify and get back to you.

A question if you get chance - you mention missions being broken and preventing progress - are any of them related to achievements? (Therefore making some achievements currently unable to be unlocked) or to your knowledge are all achievements ok and working? Thank you very much.

Ah that's a relief! Cheers mate. All my 100+ games on my GT are 100% complete so it was stressing me out thinking it might have achievement issues!
Here's a couple more of me just being nosey - What is your favourite team mate combo so far? Have you stuck to one class or just got your favourite abilities regardless of class? Would you say this is your favourite Mass Effect game?

Would you say this is your favourite Mass Effect game? It doesn't surpass my enjoyment of 2, but comes very close to beating out the tone and atmosphere set by 3. I think it would probably nestle in somewhere between there. As for teammates, I don't think it's a big deal but I'm going to go ahead and use the spoiler tag anyway for those that are choosing to avoid info: Any combination of Drack, Jaal, and Vetra are my favorite combos.
Liam I NEVER take - his silly Havoc ability gets him killed just way too much. Cora can occasionally have the same issues if she is using her charge ability without using Nova.
Vetra is quite useful as a markswoman (concussive shot), and combining her with Jaal's grenades and my Overload + Lance combo, means it's a pretty deadly duo that can do damage both upclose and at range (which is always the sort of diverse build I go for).

Are there other examples of squadmate abilities differing from what Ryder gets besides Vetra's turbocharge having a cover piercing effect while Ryder's does not?

The narrative designers of BW montreal went with a Bethesda-esque approach to interactive dialogue.

So, the main story planets are the ones that you can land on. They are massive in scope and size, and take several hours to clear the entire map and collect everything / do most missions. All the other planets in this galaxy are simply scannable planets, with a handful of them containing anomalies of things you want to collect. In many ways, it's more like ME3's planetary exploration, rather than ME1's. Hope that helps
